  • October 4 | Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) delivers his 290th speech on the Senate floor urging his colleagues to wake up to the threat of climate change. Whitehouse highlights the economic costs of the recent climate-driven disasters across the country and how the Senate Budget Committee has put a spotlight on the need to act.

But the world isn't fair, so just burning it from history and preventing anything like it from ever passing again should be fine.

(sigh...) Oh well, "Nobody misses the water until the well runs dry." But listen to an old teenager and keep your eyes peeled. There's oligarchs around the world, both foreign and domestic, who are very busy buying up private rights to fresh water resources everywhere even as I type this comment.
That tells me everything I need to know about the future for average citizens everywhere, especially those living in the US and Canada who happen to straddle the largest freshwater resource on planet Earth. I've got great-grandchildren who are going to have to live through whatever chaos comes to pass. Now that it is election season I noticed a video dated for 5 days ago concerning a title that might relate to reality. But in the meant time since he has been holding office, he's been advocating for lobbyists in relation to climate change. That is probably where he makes his extra money. But that money to him isn't dark money but is it really. If he is pointing out a lot of facts but not pointing out other facts he is lying. The US has the toughest emission standards just about in the world but he's extorting Americans as he doesn't take what he claims to stand for to those that are the real polluters. Get real!!

In the last two years, we’ve dealt with heatwaves and tree dieoffs and droughts and failing water wells and wildfires burning down over 120 houses in our town. Then last winter we had record rains following by so much snow that houses and garages were collapsing along with many thousands of trees. We both feel that we are living in the epicenter of climate change. She mentioned heatwaves so intense that her relatives fear for their lives. The human and economic costs of burning fossil fuels are rapidly increasing. 40% of the people who lost homes to wildfires in our town were retired on fixed incomes and did not have insurance. The costs of power outages and fireproofing homes and clearing downed trees and drilling deeper wells is huge. We can spend hundreds of billions to move away from fossil fuels or many trillions to Exxon’s fires, floods and droughts.

"highest temperatures on record". Records that only go back a few decades for most weather stations 75% are located in urban heat islands only represents 2% of the land mass in mostly Northern Hemisphere. There is no climate crisis. The Holocene (10,000BC to 4,000BC) was on average 2C warmer than today's heady record readings. The records are taken from the lowest recorded temperature in 1850AD.

Where are the people who “work” here? Aren’t they supposed to be there listening to this important information. Where are they??? Perhaps they are out on their yacht 🛥️ counting their money 💰 nobody is minding the store!

Where are the rare earth minerals to come from needed for the transition from FF to "clean" energy? And presuming we achieved this unicorn energy solution, would it make any difference to climate change or stop bad weather?
Prof Mark Mills says at present rates of mining, processing and refining would take 400 years just for 1st generation of wind, solar, EV cars and batteries, that would need replacing after 15 years.

The horror "movie" will not end. You will not be able to exit. You will succumb to this existential crisis and at a point coming very soon, no one will be able to save you. No one. Weep when you realize there is no future for neither you nor your children. All this horror is due to greed. The death spiral of the insignificant poor means nothing to the filthy rich while they walk on YOUR dead flesh and bleached bones.

I appreciate your passion and honesty, but no-one has yet highlighted the most telling indicator of climate collapse due to fossil fuel burning and the "greenhouse effect": melting glacial and sea ice across all of our 200,000 glaciers. Last year we lost 1.2 TRILLION TONS of glacial/sea ice, and this does not include the permafrost melting. So, 3.5 BILLION TONS PER DAY. Why is this important beyond the sea level rise? Ice absorbs 344 BTUs PER GRAM as it melts. The geophysicists predict ALL of this ice may be gone in 77-110 yrs., then our global AC will be gone, as water can only hold 1/80th the amount of heat as ice. Venus 2.0?
