  • The village of Ruswarp is built on a steep winding hill that leads down to the north bank of the River Esk, at the tidal limit of the river. The former mill, now converted into flats, is a dominant feature of the riverside. It was originally built in 1752 but was burnt out in 1911. After rebuilding, the mill continued working until 1989.
Ruswarp offers a nine-hole golf course, boating and a miniature steam railway. There is a lovely 1 and a half-mile walk called 'the Monks Trod' which takes you past the new high-level bridge into Whitby.
The beautiful river Esk, winds through Ruswarp along with the Ducks and Swans. It is a beautiful spot for fishing or even hiring a pleasure boat or canoe. This fascinating village has an iron bridge, a tall brick viaduct, an old mill and a church with a spire.
There is a public house along with several shops including a Post Office and butchers.
