- How To Make A Blast Gates For A Dust Collection System
In this video I will show you how a very simple homemade device could efficiently collect all dust from various workshop power tools by using only one shop vac.
I made a dust splitter for 5 tools, but it could be made with your preferred number of ports and sizes. This is a general idea of how the very simple device could be made depending on each workshop’s needs. And yes, this is one of those builds that I’m questioning myself - “why I didn’t build it years ago”.
Used parts:
- Neodymium magnets 10x5mm: shorturl.at/rJP48
- Dust hose: shorturl.at/mK148
- Forstner bits: shorturl.at/rR056

Hands down one of the best dust collection systems that I have seen on YT! Well done! 👍👍
Using the magnets to simultaneously position and pull the sealing faces against each other is really clever. I would only say that you would want the magnets to be ever so slightly recessed below the surface to minimize suction leaks at the sliding joint. With so many half-baked ideas on DIY channels, it's nice to see something that someone actually well thought out and made.
your use of tape as an epoxy mixing surface is genius. it’s disposable and you don’t have to worry about it blowing away
Where have you been? This has been done for decades. Nothing new.
Yeh it's good ay I've seen a couple people doing it and I was like damn this completely fixes why I hated using epoxy glue. Hopefully I remember it next time I need it
This is a really cool system. The fact that you don't need any fancy electronics, yet it's super simple and effective, makes me want to build this. In fact, I think I'm going to build one! Thanks for the awesome video :)
Well, you beat me to this idea fellow RUclipsr! I thought about it for three days and came up with this idea to avoid buying the expensive gates then searched RUclips to see if this idea was out there. And there you are. I think two others as well. Your best contribution to the concept is the magnets! Love it. This is my next shop project. Thanks for proving the concept for me 😎
Just finished it and ya it’s awesome! Totally should have done this two years ago but I did not have all the tools then. My video coming out soon!
These have been in shops for decades lol
@@alexcoronaYou missed the essential part!
This is a great idea and easy to build. I had an extensive dust collection system before we moved, and now I don't have room in my one car garage for a big unit. This will definitely fit in my small shop with a couple of vacs and separators.
What an excellent design and you won’t experience suction loss from bends or blind corners in a box. Thanks for sharing your idea.
Excellent idea! For added aesthetic I would have painted different coloured bands on each hose, and then painted each port with the matching colour. So even someone unfamiliar with your workshop could go "green hose, green port, easy!"
Just love the efficient simplicity of your dust manafold.❤
Incredibly creative and simple. Thanks a lot.
This feels like one of those designs so good it seems like it would be obvious, but was probably much harder to come up with and design than people realize. Well done and thank you for making a video about it! I love how easy it would be to move tools around in the future since they're on flexible hoses that could detach. Modularity is great in any shop! :)
Yes, except it's already solved by IC engine exhaust headers and steam engine blast pipes. If he'd built permanent junctions, no switching would be necessary.
Oh, also he could run multiple tools simultaneously.
@@creamwobblyexcept the shop vac isn’t strong enough to collect from multiple machines simultaneously. The whole point of this is to concentrate the suction on a single machine
this is super slick. Well designed, functional, tidy. Well done!!
This is a very elegant solution to the tool switching problem. Nice.
I don't even have a workshop, but if I ever do, I'm definitely stealing this idea. Absolutely brilliant in its simplicity!
This is so great! Thanks for sharing I never would have thought I'd be able to do something like that myself
Truly a useful build. I'm definitely going to make some of these. Thank you for sharing this.
What a great idea, thank you, I will have to build this for my shop. You are a God sent, many thanks to you, Ken from Australia
Love this briliant idea and also love how now I have all the stuff to build this. Great! Thanks!
Brilliant. There is money to be made here…
That’s exactly what I need!!! Thanks for sharing 😃
Excellent idea. Clean, quick and very practical. A win win.
That is deffo about the best solution I have seen. SO EASY! I think that smooth piping is about the only thing I can think of to improve the setup. Since all piping to each tool is actually fixed, it would be better to have fixed piping to the dust separator. The less flex-tubing the better I would think. I will use this idea in my upcoming workshop revamp for sure. Thamk you.
Great idea with the magnets. You sir, are a mad scientist!
Comes to the right time! thanks for showing!
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed. This beats using blast gates because the flow restriction should be less.
fantastic..
.i built one myself a few years ago..but im now re making it..
the magnets why didnt i think of that !
you are a genius .
Awesome idea, thanks for sharing it with us all!
This is a super idea, especially for a small workshop, which I have. Will definitely be making one of these. Thank you for sharing a very well-made video.
Great idea! Thanks.
thats simply brilliant
Nice!! Great work!
Thank you for this! I just made one and it works awesome!
You're an absolute legend for sharing this. Built it tonight and it works like a boss ⭐
Thanks, that is really a good idea. I especially like the use of the magnets. It'll help with suction loss.
Pure genius. Cool as hell.
Love it! Thank you for sharing such a great idea
This is exactly what i was looking for! thanks for sharing, you are a genius
absolute genius!!!! thank you for sharing this.
I think I'll replicate your design for when I start forming my own workshop!
Just brilliant, dude! Fantastic work! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Throwing out my present system and going to build this. Excellent design.
I love this setup. So cool
Ingenious brother, Thanks!
Great idea and realization!
Great idea and execution!!
That's a great idea, I'll have to make one too! Thanks for sharing! 👍
Brilliant! Thanks for this!
Great solution & design~! I'll definitely be building one of these for my workstation that holds my spindle sander, scroll saw, Kreg jig, & mortiser. Thanks~!
I've seen a few of these but I like the idea of using magnets. That way you don't have to pull out a pin or anything. Brilliant. Thank you.
Brilliant! Thank you.
Simply brilliant 👍
This is a great option especially when your in a small shop. Thanks 🙏
Clean install, great job
Grandiose Technik!
simply brilliant
Excellent video. Clear instructions and very easy to understand. Thank you
Nice work good job man
Looked at a handful of these and this seems like the best design. The ones that open up into a larger section with plexiglass look cool, but they actually cause turbulence and a loss in suction because the airflow stream is interrupted/ isn't consistent. Whereas, in this one, there's almost no interruption because you're switching the hose over directly to line up with another hose. I'll be taking a stba at this one soon! thanks!
Brilliantly simple!
Хорошая идея и исполнение, удобно.
Genius sir , bravo !
Great work! SImple plan, and great video. 🤙🏼
Really easy, great gadget, thanks for sharing !!!
I created very similar adapters with my 3d printer. A couple of times i designed them going in the wrong direction =) In the end though, very good results! Friction fit on pvc pipes using a minor angle worked great.
Regarding your design here... it looks great and i will certainly copy it! Right now i have a system with one input and then several hoses hanging from the ceiling going to it from the machines. Magnets.. sliding thing ... brilliant! Well done!
Haha, did the same. I made a few, but first one was opposite direction.
Love it! 👍👍👍
Excellent idea! 👍👍👍👍
Thanks I can see why you have so many subscribers !! KISS love the idea and its something I think I will introduce in to my small house workshop, Thanks
Very clever made !!!
Great idea, nicely made, nicely presented. Well done.
Very nice and simple. Always the best kind of solution. Thanks for sharing

Good job man
Thanks for the video! I was looking for a dust collection management system for my shop and I ended up going with a larger version of this.
Отличная идея! Автору спасибо!
New follower thanks for the video and such a great idea. Great job
Incredible
That was an awesome idea! Great job man 👍🏼👍🏼
Brilliant!
Good job!
Great build!
Ingenious
Fantastic.
great idea, thank you for sharing
