The Flashlight Market Needs More of These 2 Things (in my opinion)

- Using the Autism Awareness Olight i5T EOS and a battery as props, we discuss 2 things that I'd love to see more of in the flashlight world: yellow anodization and LiFePO4 battery chemistry. Do you agree? What would you like to see more of in the flashlight world?

The problem with LiFePo4 cells is the energy density. That LiFePo4 cell has HALF the capacity of a Li-Ion. That LiFePo4 is 6 Wh, where as a Li-Ion is over 12 Wh. If you're getting longer run times from LiFePo4, you're either using bad Li-Ion batteries or unregulated flashlights. I'm saying this, while sitting next to 4Kwh of LiFePo4. They have their uses, but run times in a small package isn't one of them. Li-Ion wins in that regard.
That is helpful info, thanks. In my testing they still performed better than what I expected on paper and offered about twice the runtime over the PK cell li-ion batteries. I was using small flashlights to test the Soshine cells though, so I need to test larger lights. I don’t have two of the same model for a fair test of larger lights at the moment but that could be an interesting test. The regulation might come into play as you pointed out 👍
An AA/14500 flashlight with a 2-stage tailswitch from the SF EDCL1T. This is the perfect flashlight for me, light and compact, duel fuel, intuitive UI, no e-switch no parasite drain, 2way clip.
Hey, personally I’d like to see more choice regarding 14500’s and 10440’s.
Mechanical rheostats for brightness control! Like you see on dimmer switches in homes.
👍I fully agree, James. I'd just add 1 more, I'd love to see more 16650 batteries particularly usb-c rechargeable. Also love to see Olight give us an M1T Raider plus type with one of those batteries, preferably LiFePo as well 😉😊
Yes, those batteries are a nice diameter and we need more. Love it!
Wurkkos wk03 has yellow coloring now. Love your videos btw! 🔦
I just pulled it up on their website and it looks great!
TS10 is in Orange
I have an aluminum mini-maglite from decades ago that is yellow-gold colored. I wonder if I can update the bulb to LED or LEP.
More vibrant color choices would be GREAT !! Environmentally friendly rechargeable batteries , momentiry on switches with well spaced lumens. About 3 different modes . Also quality switches that LAST !!!
A benefit of a 3.2 volt cell vs a 3.7 volt is being able to more closely match a 12 volt system with them.
Good point.
Damn, wish I'd seen that autism awareness light when it was on sale!
It looks pretty slick and hopefully we’ll see more of this sort of thing in the future.
Wurkkos came out with a yellow looking WK03. I think they call it golden color, but it looks yellow to me. So far, its only on their website. I like high visibility light color options like orange 🍊 because they are easier to find when you drop them than a dark black flashlight.
I'm hoping they do away with lithium altogether & go with something less toxic & dangerous. Maybe one day.
Good to know about the WK03. And yes, it’s definitely tragic how a lot of lithium gets mined. Hopefully a better alternative will emerge and/or better means of production.
@PardonMyEnglish it's not really the mining part that's bad. It is that lithium in the batteries burns when in contact with air or water. They keep talking about sodium batteries, but the capacity doesn't seem as good as lithium. 🔥
Ah gotcha 👍
Those duracells are surely to be chucked into the ocean
I try to stay away from disposable batteries these days. Better savings over the long run to use rechargeable batteries as well 👍
No, stores need more of that because if I could walk into any store and pick up that type of batter like I can AA through D size batteries more products would use those batteries. Not everyone shops online. I don't even have a form of payment to buy things online. Online don't take cash and cash is all I have.
Here are my points I want to see in lights, mostly speaking of AA and AAA lights but some points work on other types and sizes:
-Non proprietary batteries,
-That work with 1.5v and 3.7v,
-Moonlight mode 1lumen or less,
-A way to always start on moonlight,
-No memory mode, to always start in low or to ramp up from moonlight (from previous point),
-Warm tints and neutral whites, between 4000k and 5000k
Based on what lights I have, I like the UI from Olight batons,
I like the neutral and warm tints from Acebeam Pokelit AA and Manker e02 II and that they both work with 1.2v ni-mh, 1.5v alkaline or 3.7v batteries, the Manker has easy access to moonlight (press and hold), easy access to turbo (double click),
I like simple designs, like the previously 2 lights mentioned,
Manufacturers should aim to make the lights more EDC friendly If they are meant for EDC, instead of trying to push more lumens output and colder tints with every new version... they should prioritize runtimes, easy UI, easy direct access to low modes and moonlight, and obviously easy direct access to turbo if the light is meant for tactical self defense!
Good stuff here! I find myself agreeing with these as well 👍
Im sorry, you missed an important point: how can you charge those batteries? Its a new, different charger needed?
For me a good iddea would be dumb flashlights. My mom needed a keychaing flashlight and i offered her quite a few before finding one she liked! Most of them had a crappy UI or turned on by itself in a pocket or wallet. The one i found:Olight imini2.
Same is true for regular flashlights and headlamps!
I sold a coworker a S1A Baton and after 1 year he told me it works but it barrely illuminate! He forgot how to change from moonlight to L, M,H!
Oh man! Yes, simplicity is a virtue when it comes to flashlights in my opinion.
I want to see more high power led torches with on an off only, I'm tired of on, low, flash.
That is a good concept. Like flashlights of old, but with modern output. I like it 👍
Thank you on/off thats it! Flashlights shouldnt even have an interface.
Dear God yes
I said before that one of my favorite little lights is the i3T. The original one. It will operate with either AAA or 10440s.
I think manufacturers should push on that side of things. Make their products multi fuel. As for the colors, I have an awesome Perun Mini 2 in 'Venom' (?) Green...it's sooooo effing good looking I won't use it daily....LMAO Cheers
Yes, dual-fuel lights rock! I'll have to check out that venom PM2 too.
Let's see more double 21700 cell headlamps with constant current drivers, more comfortable and well-balanced headbands (for headlamps) and flashlights with XHP70.3 HI emitters in the 4000K to 5000K range.
Good points! Yeah, 4000K to 5000K is the sweet spot and there are relatively few lights in this tint when compared to the vast majority that use 6000K to 6500K.
im from flesh light community too ..... oops wrong channel
Haha can’t help you on that one.
couldn't resist 🤣@@PardonMyEnglish
sure, yellow anodisation is possible 😉
Ts11 is in yellow
That’s cool. I knew about the orange version but didn’t know about the yellow. Where can it be found?
a flashlight that doubles as a light-saber.
Haha, the force is strong with this one.
Did I really just spend almost 8 minutes listening to a guy talk about the colour yellow and an 18650 battery
Bless the algorithm!
Blw my phone has a flashlight 🔦.
18650 ftw
That is the name/size of that rechargeable battery.
@@PardonMyEnglish I know, that's why I exclaimed, 18650 For The Win, I have lots and use then in as much as i can.
My bad! I read too fast and thought it was wtf.
1. More flashlights that take BATTERIES!!! I'm sick of all these rechargeable turds... a flashlight is one of my most important tools. I dont have the time to wait for it to charge HOURS!!!
2. Give me less lumens and longer battery life. I dont need 8,000 lumens in my day to day life 100-200 is more than enough for most people and most day to day tasks.
3. Stop making flashlights soooo complicated. On/off thats all thats needed. I dont need 36 modes to click through a strobe, uv light or a laser...
Nice. I too like replaceable batteries and simple operation.
I used to have some level of respect for you. But after your light comment on what OLIGHT did for the autism community. And donating with that flashlight, I now no longer have. My son is affected with autism and really appreciated. The sentiment in the light you jokingly calling it an airline light made me sick. I am unsubscribing..... DONE
I’m sorry you’re offended. I hope you know that I did not mean anything negative towards autistic people or Olight. I was merely making a comment on the color scheme similarity. Sorry to see you go and I wish you and your son the best.
I’m melting 🫠 ❄️
