Realizing the benefits of the simulation and terrain environment is key to critical and impactful flight training. Getting familiar with the area, to help prevent the following from happening in a real aircraft on a real flight is critical. While an EFB is nice as an aid, it doesn’t paint the full picture for maneuvering in a new area.
Reflecting on this now that I am deep into my instrument training, I take away a few key points immediately:
    1. Looking for ~90KTS IAS over midfield vs. 114KTS IAS.
    2. Altitude awareness on approach over the road / river to midfield, keep it nice and stabilized around 4-500FPM vs. diving down towards 1,400FPM approaching mid-field.
    3. With slowing airspeed, and thus ground speed, improving the ability to maneuver with terrain in the area. The faster you maneuver in mountainous terrain, the wider and larger your turn radius is, and at a higher altitude and warmer temperatures of the summer could translate to a stall / spin with any type of abrupt control movements.
    4. If overshooting the final approach course, just go around.
Great to have taken part in this demo with Chris and Oscar to improve awareness of a new area, and I’m fortunate to be working on my instrument training about 6 months after this video was taken. The value of an Instrument Rating is so critical, tighter everything and more aware of surroundings and maneuvering.

Good summary and interesting video. Why doesn't Chris use MSFS instead of P3D?

I'd guess stability. At the moment msfs is still too buggy to be relied on by a flight school. But as an msfs user myself I'd hate to go back to those awful graphics 🙂

Hey I teach aviation to high school students in Williston North Dakota and looking
at buying on of these sims from virtual fly. How do you like it how is it holding up after some use? I am interested in these guys because of your channel. I really like your content. Hope to meet you at Oshkosh one of these years.

    The cost is 11,835 euros

I'm sorry but for the cost of this you can get a TON of REAL flying in! Let us calculate this. You have $199 wet rental rate for a G1000 172= ($12,776/199) 64.2 REAL FLYING HOURS ...hmmm well I have to say no thanks to the simulator. Flight schools, yeah , they can charge $80 / HR for you to use this, makes sense for them. Let's see.... $12,776/$80= 159.7 hours break even point or 53 days of 3 hours rented a day! GO FLIGHT SCHOOLS!!

Yes. But what about practicing extreme situations like getting out of a spin, heavy crosswind when land/take-off, etc?
