  • As a business graduate whose brain was melting playing around with tabs in an Excel sheet, I decided to learn to code. In this video I detail my 3 month journey.

@@bassplayer807 It depends on many factors. What do you want to learn, where do you want to work, what background do you have and how can you represent yourself? Also how smart are you and how used to teaching yourself are you?
Search for a promising technology and start to learn it. Maybe think about a small project you'd like to do and work on it. At the same time you should learn about coding fundamentals and good coding practices.

You can get good enough for interviews with just doing a couple a day until you're sufficiently good. You're setting people up to think they have to do 10x more work then what's necessary. It largely depends where you're applying. If you want a FAANG job maybe. Anything else, no.

Thats the simplest problem ever. Get a job and please your parents so that they'll keep their mouth shut. • @anontar6316
    @anontar6316 3 года назад +2

hmmmm this could be so toxic for so many people. Reading a lot of books on learning and how the brain functions when learning....this "path" would bring 95% of people to a burnout state....if not more then just 95%. Idk why people tend to do such videos...telling them how to become a developer in 3 months when everyone from the industry with or without a degree just know how impossible that can be.
There might be 1-2% of people that can do so but they always have very very very very specific situations that they find themselves in. In case of "coding jesus" i think it would be the fact that his father tried to teach him how to code. Idk how far that went but when having a parent doing a certain type of job, there are a few chances that the child is going to learn the logic of that job if the parent is willing to open that industry up to the child. This would be a huuuuge thing to take into consideration because most of the people that didn't study in a University and then went to 1 or 2 internships just don't get the logic of coding. The most difficult thing is not to learn the syntax and other stuff like that...but to learn how to think in that language or as a coder. If you have a parent that does that and actively tries to teach you (even if at first it doesn't work) then you get the huge advantage that you know what happens in a company (from a logical point of view). And this is exactly why most of the people that are self taught will fail interviews after interviews. You just have no ideea what would be expected from you as a coder in a specific language. But that wouldn't be the only thing i guess.... surely there where other circumstances that made this possible (not being hungry for it because... we know now as a fact that your "will" has a limit and that it can be quantified...so it will run off really fast if you burn it all in a few days or weeks)
Secondly... spending that many hours a day with no days off... only maybe one, that alone could get you to a burnout state that will just make you hate coding or make you feel like you are not good enough for it. This is a fact....many many books where written on this topic by renown researchers in this specific field.
Personally I wouldn't recommend anyone to take this video to serously if you really want to learn how to code and to change your job and get into this industry. Besides the fact that I made this step myself....I would rather ignore that....and I would go by the studies and numbers that clearly and objectively show that this type of mentality will only bring you down at a certain point and that in case someone does make it.....it is most certainly because of a certain situation that the person found themselves in during the last years or most of his life.
Not only that but there are even more people that get into a coding position in a company and after 2 or 3 months they just fail and loose it. This mostly tends to happen because all you can do in 3 moths is to learn something in a more empirical way. You see what things do but not really get it why....and when a company actually is expecting you to solve some problems....you will feel a lot of stress and pressure because you don't have the experience with such things. You don't really get yourself into similar situations in order to have some experience as how you should react and what you should do.
Again... I am not here to say that I don't believe coding jesus when he is saying that he got multiple offers in such a short time....but I would recommend others to take into consideration that the information you got from within your circle of people that you live with are not the same as his. His entire informational background might not be the same when it comes to coding, your mental state might not be the same.....and of course....maybe read a book or 2 first on how to learn new and difficult stuff. A lot of studies will back up completely opposite ideas then his...and all of them in a very objective way.
Just one example that is completely different and shows a more realistic life situation

I disagree with your opinion about business degree. When it is combined with another specific skillset, it is a very powerful qualification in the market. The problem is the bias, that a degree = job. No! If you have a specific skillset (coding is a very very powerful weapon to combine it with) then the business/econ degree will be very valuable. There are a LOT of jobs that require business degree and coding/IT skills, or even a secondary degree of some sort. But if you are just wandering around aimlessly, expecting the degree to automatically get a job for you, then you will have a LOT of problems (and you already do, in your head, if you are like this!).
However I love your no-nonsense, no-bullshit approach to things, you have just gained a sub! Cheers
Important note: I am talking about European education, not American. I think the rules do apply aswell.

    - How would you implement a simple consumer/producer program using two threads?
Have you ever encountered questions such as these, and what part of your learning process would you say prepared you for these questions? ie. the courses, the pet projects, etc

I want to learn to code really mainly to move on from the retail job that I have, and also to hopefully be involved in game development someday. Is there a language you would recommend for that specifically? Hi Coding Jesus! Chanced upon your channel yesterday and I must say you make great educational videos! I just graduated from an engineering degree and I find most entry-level engineering jobs require a some what decent level of coding experience. Since last year during lockdown, I have been trying to learn how to code and create simple applications, but I get really lazy and unmotivated at times. Yea but leetcode problems are way over my level :( My friends said its because my understanding of Data structures and algo is not strong. What are some books you might recommend and how do you stay focused?

You cannot even take in that information if you read 100 pages. Much less do all the examples :P Did you keep track of the ime or are you just guessing? Cause when you guess you usually overestimate the time you actually spent studying by a lot.

Hey CJ...quick question. Did you have subjects like FRM and Data Analytics in your Business degree that actually helped you crack Quant Dev interviews. I am teaching myself how to code and last I worked with a Reinsurance broking company for 5 yrs where I knew ppl who were FRM certified and they'd talk about Quant trading. That's how I got to know of subjects like FRM and Data Analytics etc. I had Math until pre-grad yrs and I am also brushing up on concepts like Lin Algebra, Prob and Matrix, and Precalculus. Do you think someone like me can still make it as a Quant Dev.

Software development is the best way to get rich, most companies dont care if you have a degree if you are good. Most people dont have the dedication to self teach themselves C++ though.. But at least its not like medical or other fields where there is a ton of gatekeeping and regulation and licensing.
