    Thanks for the videos. When I search for mods I've done (CarPlay integration) or plan on doing (MX-5 Things DRL harness install, sound tube delete), I inevitably end up at one of your helpful videos. Watching the process gives me a lot more confidence and takes a lot of guess work for me. Keep up the good work!

    Update. This sound tube delete made a noticeable difference!! No more tinny clatter in the cabin. No more “noise”. Well worth the the 10 minutes to do the swap. Thanks again Kill-O-byte.

    Kill-O-byte did a a great job explaining it. I just did the swap. The sound tube and 2 bolts (removed parts) came right in at 1.5lbs per my digital scale (weight savings). FYI, when installing there’s 2 small square nuts on the 2 clamps on the big intake tube (if u decide to remove it). If u remove that big tube just don’t let those 2 square nuts fall off. On a difficulty scale of 1 to 10 this install was a 1. If I did it again I would just replace the small cap like Kill-O did. Keep modding.

    Just followed your instructions after buying the kit from Moss Miata for my 2020 RF Club 6MT with Brembo/BBS/Recaro package.
    Your video made it a breeze to install. I ended up using the hose from the kit rather than swapping the "nipple". It took maybe 10 minutes but most of that was wiping the sweat off my forehead in this 100°F weather. It definitely sounds quieter on start up now. Thank you for the video!

    I just did this sound tube delete today- easy peasy. Cold start sounds much better in the cabin. Car is a bit quieter overall but sounds better in my opinion. Time for an exhaust! Thanks for the video! 👍👍

    Great job again! My hose popped right off the stock nipple with your trick. Tricky part for me was getting the stubborn new nipple off the hose tube they provided.

    GREAT VIDEO! I have been told that removing the sound tube makes the car quiter below 4000rpm but it causes a boom sound from 4000rpm onward. Have you noticed such boom sound?

    • @Killobyte
      @Killobyte  5 лет назад +4

      Removing it makes the cabin quieter as the intake (and other engine noise) sound is no longer directed into the cabin. I’ve never heard of a boom sound above 4000rpm. I’d think that would be more likely exhaust related.

  • @cornel999

    great video, it'll help if i remove my sound tube. i'm not really bothered by the start up sound, but i don't like the fairly loud booming drone sound that starts around 60-65 mph on the highway. does tossing the sound tube reduce that sound, or is that coming from something else?

    • @Killobyte
      @Killobyte  5 лет назад

      I’m not sure. I’ve changed out my exhaust so can’t say for sure if it was from intake or exhaust.

    • @linliu2744
      @linliu2744 5 лет назад +4

      I just deleted my sound tube today. By doing this, the drone sound you heard around 60-65 mph will be gone for sure. The sound difference/noice level "before" and "after" is quite noticeable. I can talk to my girlfriend on highway now rather than yell to her. I personally like the "after" sound very much.

    👍👍👍Been wanting to look at this. What a ridiculous piece of equipment. Sound tube delete kit?? Go figure. Figured I would be at Home Depot walking the isles. Good intel here. A bit of cognitive dissonance...they made this unneeded device and then made a kit to remove it???🤔🤔🤔 WTH🤔😡😡😂😂 Subbed😎👍

    Q: How far down do I have to push the hose down on the machined aluminum PCV? It was tedious to get it on and I don’t want it to go off the machined aluminum PCV. 🙏

    To deactivate the sound tube simply plug the end of the hose leading into the firewall

    Hi! Great video! Today I first time in my life drove Mazda MX-5 Miata 2019 with manual transmission. I love it! During this drive I had a huge smile on my face... all the time... I think of buying MX-5 but... yes, there is one but... I drive a lot on highways and I'm afraid of the noise which is nice for lower speed, but for few hours with 3-5k rpm might be a problem. Do you have a movie which shows the difference before and after installing sound tube delete kit? What is the noise level after installing sound tube delete kit? Thanks for help.

    • @Killobyte
      @Killobyte  4 года назад +2

      I don't have a video comparing before and after. I can tell you that I was able to turn my radio down 2 numbers after removing the sound tube. I'd suggest doing a long test drive on the highway to experience the sound level. Top up it doesn't bother me, but I try to use ear plugs when driving highway speeds top down.

    I just found your video on the removal of the air intake noise system which was great, But you didn't mention the important part. WHERE DID YOU GET THE REPLACEMENT KIT TO DO IT // I have been looking everyplace to do it on my 2104 MX5 with no luck.

    To reduce cost and as well as waste can the ND Mazda community actively help find out how we can purchase just the nipple instead of the whole hose and nipple kit?

    removing the sound tube on a BRZ has a negative effect on the powerband, does that apply to the ND too?

    • @Killobyte
      @Killobyte  3 года назад

      Interesting, I've not heard of that happening. I doubt it affects the ND. Some models come without it and it's a closed tube so it "shouldn't" have any affect on intake flow.

    The noise ?? There is no noise. I wish there was engine noise though, that's part of owning a roadster and that's why it's there, although it's just about pointless because I don't hear a think. Another RUclipsr did the sound tube removal and said he couldn't notice a difference either. To me the sound tube adds nothing. So taking it away removes nothing either. But given the chance to add more engine sound, I would take it. Maybe I need a bigger tube ?

    • @doriangray2347
      @doriangray2347 5 лет назад +2

      It was much easier to do the whole two parts as is replacement. Those screw on tensioner bands take seconds and no pressure to remove. I think the kit was made with the hose due to difficulty of getting those super compression spring collars off the tiny parts. I recommend using the flex hose with the top part as is from the kit, dont disassemble it.

    • @mikehawkins4752
      @mikehawkins4752 2 года назад +1

      @@doriangray2347 once I figured out that using my vise grips to clamp onto the clip and hold it open the nipple part came out really easily, so I did it that way which enabled me to use both hands to pull it out.

      There was another video on RUclips where they measured the sound difference but with a video you can't really tell. But I can tell when I'm sitting in my car it's definitely less annoying. Sounds more like a normal car on the inside.
