Ridge Racer has been dormant for a decade, on consoles at least, but the acclaimed series has appeared in the most unlikely of fashions: a PSP re-release on PS5 and PS4 via PlayStation Plus. I am so tired of the story based, open world racing games -- its nice to just get an old fashioned arcade racer.

I agree with you. There are no good arcade racers right now. Ridge Racer is super fun though. I wish they could make a new Ridge Racer.

Ridge Racer 6 is playable on Xbox One and Series S/X. It's not available to purchase digitally in some regions, but it is in others, and the disc version will work in all regions.

@@xDavGTive got rr6 that isnt even from my region and it still works on my x one x, so either youre spreading misinformation, or your disc is broken

Yeah, I’ve had it digitally for ages, and it’s worked both on the Xbox One and later the Series X.
I had the Ridge Racer PSP game and it was my first game on it. Actually, it was my first Ridge Racer game in general. It's just a shame that Ridge Racer 2 was never localized in North America so I never played that one. But it's great that it's available on the PS4 and PS5 albeit with the PlayStation Plus Premium membership. I've been playing it myself and it's awesome. That game and Ridge Racer Type 4 are my favorites
Ridge Racer 1 on PSP was also my first introduction to the series. I knew of it, just never got around to playing it before then. Awesome game, one of my favorites for the PSP and it was a big reason I bought Ridge Racer 6 for the 360 without hesitation, and that game was also among my favorites on that machine. Great to be able to play RR 2 on PS5. Brings back a lot of memories. Might be asking too much to get Ridge Racer 8 but with all the remasters these days, a RR collection would be fantastic.
Ridge Racer Type 4 is a legend
Ridge Racer Type 4 needs some sort of remaster or remake. Just a very well done high res port with mostly AI upscaled assets would work fine. Heck I would pay $20 for it if it was good enough.
You could say this game is like a remake of RR4 itself, because it includes all the tracks in the game including the reverse tracks
I wish that Namco resurrect this game for latest or next gen console. If this game release, it will shock the world by storm. Because many devs are trying to build realistic games.
Have you played Grid Legends? It plays a lot like Project Gotham.

I'm not really sure what Namco & Capcom are thinking locking their retro games behind the Premium tier instead of also giving the option to buy them separately 😓
I'm a huge Ridge Racer fan, and this would have been a day one purchase for me, but I have zero interest in the content of the Premium tier as there's just not enough to make it worth my while... Plus I'd rather *own* Ridge Racer 2, not have it on a service where it could be removed at any time.
I guess I'll stick to playing this one on my PSP then, and RR6 on the XBox etc.

Just started to see this being reported by the media too. Looks like it's just the Namco Bandai titles atm, Capcom stuff is still Premium subscription only. Maybe that'll change in time too tho.
@@FluxOmega I got it, it isn't entirely flawless on my base PS4 unfortunately, it does stutter occasionally which isn't ideal for a game like this which requires split second timing but it's still playable. I even tried putting the resolution down to 480p but it made no difference. Maybe it works better on a PS4 Pro or PS5 with their faster CPUs. Shame as it works flawlessly on PC through emulation!
I still remember 2005 when I get my PSP and also one of the 3 games is Ridge Racer, I been so amazed by the graphics of the game, the music of this game, everything of this game just so ahead of the time, even now I still can not find another game that give me the same feeling~
You can remove the UI by pressing select
One thing I don't like is, no option to put L2 and R2 to brake and gas.

I just downloaded ridge racer, RRR, rage racer and both psp versions onto my nvidia shield. I wish they would give these original games a nice HD remaster for the ps5...miss the simplicity of brain off arcade style games, just reaction times.
Ordered this for the PSP and it arrived today. Smashed the Basic and Pro Tours in in like 9 hours. Recently did everything on the original game except for the Max tours because you don't unlock anything for completing those and they're incredibly difficult. 😮💨

The last days ive played ridge racer 1 on ps1 completely through, then Ridge Racer V on PS5, and starting tomorrow Ridge Racer 7 on PS3. I love this game!!

Sadly it's locked behind the premium subscription... I hope they don't do the same with Type 4 if it ever gets added.
Hey I hate how some of the PS1/PSP games they let you buy and some they don't, seems like it's random

imo the best racing ever is this one! the remastered version with the addition of the OG tracks is all I need.
Was anything added to the game like controller vibration? This also marks the first time this game landed in US shores RR2 never released on the PSP here.
I wish they would've added PlayStation Trophies to it.

Classic old arcade style game. Just like when we played Ridge Racer in the arcades. I love arcade games from days gone by when it was all about having fun. I got a bigger buzz when I got my original Playstation with Ridge Racer than I did when I got GT7 for PS5.
The Ridge Race franchise is awesome. I don't know why there's a lot of haters for it

You don’t need PlayStation plus now. You can buy the games without that.

Don't know if things have changed in the 8 months since this released but you CAN buy Ridge Racer 6 digitally and play it on Xbox One and Series XS. I did it recently. It plays brilliantly.
in germany for example u cant buy. just on us market with vpn i got it. rr6 plays great
I personally think this game is more challenging than Gran Turismo 7 the ai is just brutal on Ridge Racer
I imported a white Japanese PSP from Play Asia back in the day before it was a available in the UK and they bundled RR. That was such a great buy. Having PS2 quality games on a handheld with an LCD was a revelation at the time. RR was mind-blowing on a handheld.
I got RR6 from the US Xbox marketplace on my Series S. I have to change my region to play it, but I needed a RR fix.

Ridge Racer 6 is not backwards compatible on newer Xbox because it is still in the available in the microsoft store. I have it digitally on my series X!

I know it’s had a little work done but doesn’t RR2 look fantastic on PS5, I hope/wish/pray that it’s a relatively easy process so we can have more PSP games on PS5! Also let people buy and keep them! Not just locked away on premium service

It's only purchasable on the store in the US tough.
In EU you'll need the disc. I have a spare one to sale if you wish.
Funnily enough, after publishing this video and being annoyed at the lack of RR6 in my life, I looked online to see if I could grab a copy and a cheap 360, only to find it is backwards compatible! With a bit of VPN trickery, I've since managed to get RR6 on the Series X, and a video will definitely be coming in the new year! - Chris

PPSSPP does it better actually. It has actual reflections and they fixed the broken HUDs on some cars so this is kind of a scam tbh
