- Pregnancy comes with a lot of advice concerning everything from how to determine the sex of the baby to how to ease both pregnancy symptoms and the oft-dreaded task of labor and delivery. Most of these stand on little to no evidence, but some are attached to data. In today’s episode, we examine the quality of the data behind two popular pieces of advice about easing labor and delivery outcomes.

1:48 I love the quick cut to Aaron just shrugging lol
Congratulations Tiffany! Hope everything goes as smoothly and well as possible.
Thank you!! :) -Tiffany
Well I HIGHLY recommend the consumption of red raspberry leaf tea during pregnancy in the 3rd trimester! Helped me to go into labor on my own and have 2 vaginal births after cesarean, and looking forward to my third in a few weeks🤗🙏🏿!
AMAZING TESTIMONY, I’ve begun drinking red raspberry tea at 33 weeks. I don’t want to go into labor before 40 weeks but I do want to go into labor on my own vaginal birth after my previous cesarean. So I’m inspired and excited
Can raspberry tea be consume if had c section 2 year ago....
@@ayrahsworld6162 id say so , I had my csection inly 16 months ago & am now 32 weeks pregnant drinking it
How many times a day as you drinking it? X
wow ill start drinking it now
It's always good to know the quality of research out there.
But the data doesn't say it hurts either. Eeehhh. Say I do both things and it boosts my confidence and gives me a can do mind set. I even if it wasn't those things, it kind of helps. I think I'll try them. Worst thing that could happen is they don't work.
He mentioned Emily Oster right at the end. If you’re a pregnant data nerd (like me), you should definitely check out her books.
Congratulations / good luck / I hope everything is as painless as possible and everyone is as healthy as possible.
then you probably already know a scheduled c section the best thing for a baby and the mom mentally and physically
the recovery overall a lot faster as well even though the lie tries to say its not because they force the woman to stay 3 days in the hospital instead of kick them out after 1 day
and then the complications of a natural birth ends up with the mother dying on the stairwell and those news reports are way to common and brushed under the rug
🤔
New dad here. Both her books were great sources of data for me. Though I probably enjoyed Crib Sheets more since it had more actionable information given my position.
I had a pregnant patient ask me very recently about raspberry leaf tea, so this is really helpful! (her question was mostly in the context of GDM but this is still interesting)
I read "Do dates" and thought they meant "due dates" and were going to debunk those XD
Me, too!
Congratulations Tiffany! Love this show, and Aaron, love that Timber-Cat shirt.
Thank you! :) -Tiffany
Good to hear the opposing side as I hear so much for it. Like drinking 4-6 cups of the tea a day. They say they are a good source of vitamins. But I am wondering if I can find other foods to get those other than drinking my money and taste buds away on tea.
Hi Dr. Carroll! Hopefully video ideas are welcome in the comments - would it be possible for you to go over the safety of Essential Oils? I'm definitely not falling for their claims of how they'll improve my life as a person, I'm just considering getting them so they smell nice. But I'm concerned about whether it's safe to fill my house with tiny particles of evaporated oil. Should I expect that to be harmful to my lungs, or is it realistically fine and I should go ahead and enjoy having everything smell like lavender/eucalyptus/spearmint/whatever? Thanks for constantly cranking out such useful videos!
Just a few days shy of 37 weeks here. A few days ago I increased my consumption of raspberry leaf tea and now I've got annoying contractions that kept me up all night last night (about 20 minutes apart and needing to breath through them) and during the day about 10-15 minutes apart. I've stopped drinking the tea now and hoping things will slow down. This is baby #5 for me and my midwife just explained to me that women who have had multiple pregnancies can be more sensitive to it and to not start drinking it until last week of pregnancy.
In traditional Chinese medicine they use dates with fresh ginger to help with nausea and vomiting; not for labour problems.
The problem with studies like this is that by the time that they are published and made available to the general public they are dated.
I think that’s a problem with our current science
@@alidelatierra Figs are a problem too.
@@seanwebb605 omg..took me a minute haha
go figure!
Lol
Would be good if you could include mentioned studies in the description.
The studies cited are identified at the bottom of the screen.
Just finished Emily Oster's Expecting Better! Might still go for the dates though. They do taste yummy!
When I was in my last month of pregnancy, I dug into some of this research and came to similar conclusions. I still ate dates. I was like... I'm not sure there's any evidence that dates are better than any other dried fruit, but it doesn't hurt me or anyone if I eat some dates, plus it's not very expensive. Dates are yummy, and at the very least probably helped keep me regular. I skipped the red raspberry leaf tea because and I didn't want to spend my money on it because it sounded kinda gross.
Raspberry leaf tea is actually delicious, as long as you don't overbrew (then it turns bitter). It has a faint raspberry flavor without the tartness.
raspberry leaf tea is my favorite tea so I drink it even not pregnant
Raspberry leaf tea is delicious 😋
Lol everyone coming in hot to try and tell you your opinion on a tea is wrong.
Do you think it helped you with labor and delivery?
Do teeth really fall out when people are pregnant, how common is it, and how to prevent it?
I lost a chunk of my back tooth in the first trimester but I think it was because I was throwing up so much and brushing my teeth right after. Yikes.
I had one literally crumble in my mouth when I ate pizza 😂
My wisdom teeth bothered me from the first trimester all the way to the second trimester! Unlike my first pregnancy🤦🏾♀️ it was hell!!! I had to use equate mouthwash 24/7 and take tylenol extra strength all the time to help me out until i had the baby and could actually get my wisdom tooth removed
how do people eat dates they are so disgusting. like a lump of sugar got wet and then dried out
Every type of dates taste different. I tried Medjool dates and i hate it. I only eat Ajwa dates and it taste like a treat
Any excuse to eat dates is one I will take
I think some herbalists would disagree with allopathic medicine.
the raspberry tea data is "limited, small, and out of date(s)" 😏
Eh, if it doesn’t hurt, may as well try it🤷🏼♀️
Maybe a really good Malbec instead of dates?
Ha! :) -Tiffany
33 weeks today ..I will be starting with this tea at 34 weeks ..I absolutely don't want ghat epidural..I had it in the past with my other children and all I can say is ..caused me more harm than good ..
💙🌞💙
Who cares if dates do or don't shorten the second stage of labor. That's the single part of childbirth you already have control over to begin with.
