He started taking CBD tincture, which was recommended to him by a friend who was a practicing doctor, and after six months my dad was completely off of pain medication. CBD supports COX/ LOX and does not harm liver or kidneys as a result ... ibuprofen is a COX block , tis how it works via blocking that pathway ... that stops pain but is toxic to liver ... phytocannabinoids actually support those pathways and make them perform better not blocking in any way . people have found way better results ingesting whole plant formulas such as FECO/ RSO ... CBD alone is not all that and as an example ... adding a few mg of THC to any CBD formula makes that 75% more effective ... ingest whole plant or whole plant formulas and you receive even way more information for your cells to do things with ( molecular information being metabolized into realization()

    Unfortunately, a big part of the reason we see so few studies on the benefits (or lack of) from CBD and/or THC is due to it being a Schedule I substance (though CBD made from Hemp was recently excluded from the Controlled Substances Act). For those that don't know, a Schedule I drug is considered to have both a high risk of abuse and no medicinal value. The problem this creates is that not only is it nearly impossible to get funding for research in this area, in many cases it's actually illegal. Let's hope in the near future congress either removes marijuana/THC/CBD from the controlled substances act, or at least reclassifies it into a different schedule so we can get some serious research going.

    We probably don't have the detailed information for specific definition relative to individual reactions, especially given how many testing regimes & biomarkers are still being defined, refined & discovered.
    But the pattern that we all react specifically & individually to All Medical conditions & treatments is undeniable. An approach to medication that can better account for this & give standards for individual customisation that is more informed than the current trial & error would be redefining for the industry, life-saving, & life changing for the patients involved.
    If we could find relative testable signs & causalities for issues, side effects, we could drastically increase treatment effectiveness & efficiency.

    "When considering reductions in self-reported pain, we observed that cannabinoid administration was associated with a ‘medium-to-large’ (Cohen, 1988) pooled effect size across included studies. Importantly, cannabinoid administration was associated with statistically significant greater pain reduction than placebo administration, which yielded a ‘small-to-medium’ (Cohen, 1988) pooled effect size. Indeed, placebo administration has been shown to enhance expectations about pain reduction"
    "When considering cannabis’s effect on pain, our primary meta-analysis outcomes suggest that cannabinoids may represent a viable option regarding pain management and treatment- outperforming corresponding placebo conditions across included studies."
    This is extremely good evidence for pain management analysis including placebo testing.

      @@mcozy333 I've read at least 20+ studies so far on PEA... I stumbled on it a few years ago when I was researching which med worked better for sciatica (amitriptyline vs gabapentin) but study after study claimed PEA was better than either of those... My dad was in so much pain that I caved and bought some for him to try out... It was a slow reduction in pain for him- so much so that he didn't think it was helping so stopped it... But once he stopped it the pain came roaring back and he opted to start it again... So he takes it every day now. What I was shocked by (and still find hard to believe) is that it has a NNT (number needed to treat) of 1.5! Well, it has a NNT of 1.5 for chronic nerve pain anyway. But if it's that effective why don't doctors recommend it in the USA? It makes me feel like I'm missing something. Which is why I'd LOVE to see a video about it on Healthcare Triage!

    Y'all being starky in the comments but absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. I could do a 5 person "study" to determine that broccoli is good for me, but the fact that that is low quality evidence does not mean eating broccoli is just a placebo. All of this is encouraging and should be studied further before making conclusions.

    • @HexerPsy
      @HexerPsy 3 года назад +3

      But thats not how it works in biologic/medical research. We humans are complex systems, and testing anything requires you isolate the test to your best of abilities. There are SO many small scale tests that showed promise, but were of little value in the long run. Heck, there is even bais in many of these small studies, because a smaller study with no result (or no positive result) is often thrown out instead of published.
      Besides, in the medical world, evidence based practice is used. EBP means, you need a lot of research before a treatment becomes the standard. Its not until something new and well studied comes along that it replaced the previous standard treatment. Preferably you would want to set up CBD vs mainstream painkiller vs placebo, for a randomized group with blind researchers.
      Having that knowledge is key. For example, take morphine: we know safe dosages, when know in which cases it can be used effectively, we know its side effects. We know the lethal dosage, we know how long it stays in the body, we know how the effects build up, etc. We have fast acting and long lasting morphine products.
      Given the wide variety of tested dosages in the studies mentioned in the video - its not even known which dosage is appropriate.
      Your broccoli example is much easier: test it for its components. Research the vitamines in your data base and you get a good picture of the nutritional value of broccolli. The research has already been done in that way. You just dont have it for CBD.

      While we wait for peer reviewed studies, it might be worth looking at anecdotal evidence. For example, it took us decades to evidence cigarettes cause cancer, though we did have 10+ MILLION anecdotal examples. We are yet to prove that vaping is the best way to quit cigarettes, but we do have 3+ Million anecdotal examples. We've now shown CBD helps limit seizures but before that evidence, we did have 10,000+ anecdotal examples. We are yet to prove a benefit of CBD/THC for Parkinsons, yet I still remember the documentary on the BBC in the 1980's where a guy with Parkinsons and immense shakes that essentially incapacitated him, partook in some weed and ten minutes later he is riding a bicycle down the road. There are videos on youTube showing CBD controling parkinson shakes within 2-3 minutes. The anecdotal evidence for many alleged benefits is pretty overwhelming.
      Praying is a placebo effect. Here we have chemical effect and benefit which can be studied and can be evidenced. As a reminder, President Biden has the authority to declassify any drug of his choice WITHOUT need of Congress. Same for Obama who stated he was for decriminalization during campaigning, but then did nothing. The pharma industry would lose tens of billions of dollars each year as people drop their opiod and benzo prescriptions and transition to CBD (/THC). Just a coincidence I'm sure.
