  • This is the smaller of my two oakleaf sumacs. This poor little guy has been neglected I've the past 3 years so I decided to give it the TLC it deserves.

Hey Mike, nice tree, looks like it has all of the potential of a great bonsai. But in my case I suffer from hyperosmia, and have a real problem with bad smells. If you've had a Serissa you'll know that they smell bad when you prune them so when my last one died (I've had a few) I decided enough was enough. 🌳👍🏻

I didn't know that serissa's were that way! I've always wanted to try one but have yet to come across any. And yeah, the smell on these oakleaf sumacs are horrendous! I can barely stand it myself.

@@BonsaiBoise It sounds like the Oakleaf sumac is a lot worse than the serissa! Serissas die quite easily and randomly, at least here in madrid.. I guess they can't take the dry air. Nigel Saunders has a beautiful big Serissa, seems to do fine there in Canada. It's a tropical tree so indoors all winter. Worth trying!

Awesome , I just bought some older nursery stock today and one of these was in there and I was like "I'm going to bonsai it" so I did and then couldn't find a single pic of it on Google in bonsai form. Then found this tonight. Great vid.

You're only the 2nd person I've known to try bonsai'ing one of these. I'd love to see how it goes!

I like it! I remember seeing those sweet leaves in a previous video. Never seen one but if I ever do, I’ll be snatching it up.

The only place I've found them so far is a local nursery in Boise. Maybe that's why I never see other videos or pictures out there! Lol

@@BonsaiBoise wow, just wiki’d it and it’s apparently native to the western US & Canada. Also has a million other names lol. Really cool!

I just moved to the Boise area and enjoy bonsai as well. Do you know of any bonsai clubs or organizations around the treasure valley area? I'd like to connect with other people who enjoy bonsai around here.

There's one called boise bonsai but I don't know much about them. That's the only one I'm aware of around here.
