Mind you, this is the person Radahn fought to a standstill. She had to be carried all the way back to the Haligtree by one of her knights. Which goes to show what a giga chad Radahn was in his prime.
Radahn technically didnt even get downed by the scarlet rott bomb. Couldnt be killed or even signifigantly damaged by it (physically speaking) If she had tried to continue fighting him in his deranged madness she would have for sure died. She had to be carried away from Caelid while Radahn just continues to rampage around. Albeit obviously he's insane now. But still, having to drive him mad just to not completely lose and still having to retreat and be carried all the way north and having to sleep to recover for who knows how long while Radahn still couldnt be put down is insane. He really is the most powerful. The madness thing is unfortunately just a magical chemical bio-self destruct attack. Melania herself was affected by it. And at point blank it couldnt kill Radahn or stop him. Just drive him insane as the only way to get around his excessive power
Fought this boss for about 2 days straight, filled out a job application hours after 100 or so odd attempts and the interviewer called and asked “ Hello is this Mr. Malenia, Blade of Miquella? “
I really love Malenia's characters design. How her hair is mended into her wings with the butterflies and leaves, she is one of my favorite souls bosses. Her design is very beautiful.
@@guywilliems6578 A pixel perfect method of avoiding it is too punishing to be called consistent. Annoyingly, it also does a huge amount of damage and regen to any spirits you summon, since they cant dodge any of the attacks.
@@thegreatfitzgerald2660 there is actually the way just use bloodhound step then you good to go, & the perfect summon spirit for her was the black knife assassins, it took me 5 tries & it works really well ... even tough her waterflow attack is still bs tough but her character design is amazing
This is the most reactive I’ve ever seen Charlie be in a boss fight. Usually he keeps cool and calm even into 20 attempts but that really shows how fucking insane Melenia is to break Charlie’s sanity
@@QuantumFeldspar Running backwards for the first part, dodging into the next two parts, then dodging away from the final part is the most consistent way without bloodhound step.
There’s actually some lore in this fight that’s kinda important. It’s hard to tell, but if you listen closely, you’ll be able to hear it. She says a very interesting line that explains a lot of the elden ring lore. Here, I’ll just explain everything she says You see, her name is Malenia the Blade of Miquella, and she’s never known defeat. Along with that, it is very important that you know that your flesh will be consumed by the scarlet rot
The moment i beat her phase one, only to be greeted by a cutscene and another full bar of health, is the moment i truly understand why people say she's "the hardest boss"
midir has fucking nothing on her man. i'd rather do midir sl1 than this boss. I think i might switch to doing that now just so I feel good at souls games again
"The mark... of a True Lord..." says Malenia. Cr1tical: " I got really lucky on that rotation, she didn't do the giant combo. I think that was round 31 or 33."
@@KratosisGod ikr, my bro tried to show me that you can dodge waterfowl and apparently I just have terrible rng bc she did it so much more often on my save than his
Malenia is an amazingly ridiculous boss. You have to parry her 3 times before she staggers. She heals on hit and on block. She can apply scarlet rot (although you'll probably die before it applies). Obscene damage. Your best bet is to ditch any shield and learn to roll well or parry like a god because she won't stagger on every hit. Quite the boss
Yeah I've been cheesing most bosses through the game with the 5 tower shield guy ashes because they are basically immune to damage and keep aggro. Can't do that with Malenia, she just stays at full health from all the blocked hits lol.
She stumbles from every jump hit if it's a katana or anything heavier. Staggers harder than Morgott and is possible to knockdown like a NPC/player. Of course, this applies mostly to phase 1. Phase 2, she just has a little bit more poise
Edit: I made a mistake. Vergil's actor did voice work for DSII. Dante's actor was a motion capture producer on the game. Earlier text below to be preserved for later. Vergil's actor did some motion capture for Dark Souls II. With how FromSoftware reuses animations, it's quite plausible that some of those are found in Elden Ring in some capacity.
@@DS_DoggerX @DoggerX Correction: Southworth did voice work for Dark Souls II. IMDB doesn't list a specific character, but in an interview he mentioned voicing a dragon without specifying which title it was is, so it may have been the Ancient Dragon. Reuben Langdon (Dante) was the motion capture producer from Just Cause Productions for the game. The stunts were done by Roberto Gutierrez and Lauren Mary Kim.
Imagine if you had to run through the area leading up to the boss after every death like other souls games. Shit would be the most painful experience ever.
@@gabrielsantana6161 I completely forgot about the rats, but the other bosses were a real pain since i've played as an undead since my first death and my health bar was less than half of what it should've been.
Dark souls 1 does this too usually, you basically make a shortcut right before ornstein and smough, you unlock an elevator inside sen’s fortress, you get a bonfire right before queelagg, most of them have either shortcuts you unlock or shortcuts you discover yourself
Well fought by Charlie. Me personally though, I beat her on the first try, blindfolded, with the controller turned off, as a level 1 wretch with no buffs and a club, while performing open heart surgery. Soldier of Gorick though, has had me stuck for 32 days. Hope I can eventually beat him. Currently level 713 with + 10 moonveil, +25 cold uchigatana and +10 mimic tear. I still haven’t landed a hit on him though. He’s been whooping my ass. Charlies gonna be in a for a rude awakening when he faces him.
try rivers of blood as replacement for moonveil after nerf and tiche the blackknife assassin as summon and you might win against that monstrosity of a bossfight. I think soldier of godrick is the son of sister friede and orphan of kos who was teached in the ways of the sword by isshin the swordsaint
I had been running his swords every since I got the ability to use them but once I got to malenia I couldn’t beat her and gave into changing my whole build into a blood build and going for the black knife and mimic ashes you got my respect for beating her with those frfr
I have never raged at a From boss as hard as I have raged over Malenia. It took me something like 60 tries to finally take down Orphan and the entire time I was studying him like it's the week before finals. On Gael, I was quiet as a mouse, and calm af save for my shaking hands when I entered the last third of his health bar. But Malenia had me slamming my fist down and shouting at the screen. I have never been so enraged by a video game in my life. I felt like crap, like I was some kind of demon-possessed weirdo or something. But, seeing Charlie fidget around in his chair and visibly lose his cool when almost every boss I have seen him play didn't do a thing, I suddenly don't feel so bad for losing it.
It's because it was a badly designed boss. Every other boss when you got hit you was like "oh that's why, yeah that's my fault I was greedy, I rolled wrong etc. and you gradually improved" this fight is like "cool, so she has opening but the opening may not be an opening depending on what she chooses to do next and sometimes she does stagger but sometimes she doesn't". There's only 1 attack (the slam down) that has an actual opening so your basically forced to attack knowing you might be hit back and then on top of that those hits heal her. Much like watching this video, and many others I didn't get better at this fight, I was just waiting to get the right RNG to win, literally just trying to attack my way through and pray she picks the right moves for me to win. This fight is more RNG-Based than it is Skill-Based, which is why everyone gets mad doing it.
@@Fitsuuu I think they designed her around spirit ash summon. 1st phase solo was doable but 2nd is just disaster with blade flurry spam I summoned black knife tiche on later attempts and spam blasphemous blade skill. I won under 3-5 minutes
@@Fitsuuu I beat hear using a katana and dashes only when she does her flurry attack, and I can say it's a bad take. All her attacks can be dodged with no spirit ash if you do it the right way, but it needs research and hard work. The fact that a no hit run is possible is already a proof. Basically if you got hit is because either you didn't react fast/well enough or you just didn't find the right way. It's actually a very well designed boss because : 1) All her attacks can be dodged 2) story-telling-wise, the fact that she needs all that training is perfectly fit for someone known as "undefeated".
@@velienne1319 All no hit runs I know of are using parry, which yes you can parry her and that aleviates 99% of the problems but a boss shouldn't be designed around being parried, this isn't Sekiro. I also killed her without summons/parries but as I said it wasn't because I got better at the fight it was just "keep pulling until I get lucky with the movesets". She has got a couple punishable attacks but 80% of her attacks are 50/50 on if she'll just hyper armour into an attack mid-opening and hit you. So your left with 3 options with this boss - Roll the dice on what should be her opening and pray you get lucky. Dodge around for for 10min waiting for that 1 attack which has an actual reliable opening or or use parry/summons. None of which IMO lead to a good experience, hence I feel this is a poorly designed boss. To just flat out tell me I am not reacting "fast" enough. I would literally roll her attack, mash R1 to swing straight out of the roll then mash roll to roll straight out of the R1 and she'd start a new attack and hit me before that roll began. You can't physically go faster.
For how hard this boss was, I was surprisingly calm through the whole ordeal which was probably due to my low expectations of beating her. Most of my rage came out fighting Beast Clergyman and Mohg (specidically when he splatters the whole arena with bloodflame)
the only boss i’ve ever actually raged at in the entire game was godfrey. i beat maliketh pretty easy my 2nd try bc if summons but godfrey j kept getting me with those full arena smashes
Elden Beast was the only boss that really made me upset. NG+2 Elden Beast has made me vow to never finish this game again now that I have the platinum trophy.
Can't believe that Malenia beat Charlie, Lord of Dung just over 30 times. Too bad her streak ended, though, would've been cool to see her get the world record for most Lord of Dung runs
Me with my battlemage character: "Malenia was easy... I don't know why everyone says she's so difficult." Me with my melee character: "I'm going to need another hundred levels before I can beat this one."
Killed her in an hour and a half on my melee character using blood frost and fire. Along with mimic tear. Also I was only like level 60, since then I’ve beat the game and put my summon sign down at her entrance to help others 💯
@@mike5978 Greatsword has the upside of staggering her a lot. Her poise isn't great so you can posture break her. My problem was that I didn't have much that did huge posture damage but still had to be up in her face for most of the fight.
Biggest tip i learned with her and maliketh, as crazy as it sounds, roll at them when they do their sword combo if youre already too close. As you can see here, speed wise and accuracy, shes on a completely different level. So when you back up and roll, youre giving her an opening. If you roll towards them, it almost puts you behind them. Hope this sorta helps
@@ScrodumHat No need to get stubborn and try to messy dodge her extremely long combos and pray you have enough s. Just use a combination of block and dodge as needed. There is a guy that beat her with just a longsword and brass shield.
I beat her with my feet and hands tied behind my back, my eyes gouged out, and using a steering wheel instead of a controller. Shes hella easy to beat idk why everyone is labeling her "The hardest boss".
Radahn really isn't that hard. His attacks are easy to read, and with enough health, you can actually survive them. He's harder than a lot of Elden Ring bosses, but he doesn't even come close to Malenia. People overhype him way too much, especially since you can come back at much later levels. Malenia is ridiculously hard at all levels.
New game+ even. Some in a twitch chat I was in said mimic sucked cause their build sucked. It can legit solo a boss on new game+ with Charlie's meme build haha

Took me 3 days to beat her, probably spent over 4 1/2 hours in total of straight fighting. My Xbox achievement says only 6.73% of people on Xbox have beaten her, safe to say I am satisfied. I feel like I can defeat anything and anyone now, Elden Lord here we come
@@anshuuu9708 Isshin barely an hour for me. The demon of hatred was harder. Took me 4 or so hours to beat. Malenia however took me 10 hours. Although I only used Bloodhounds Fang and was using the Carian Chestplate and Blaids legs and gloves with no helmet. I felt like I should go with this despite having the Radahn set because Malenia had a move set that I could respect heavily. Really reminded me of Sekiro with how fast she was and that insane combo made me remember Genichiro(my favorite Sekiro boss). Genichiro is to date my favorite Sekiro boss with Sekiro being one of my all time favorites.
For anyone feeling bad because you spent a lot more time on this boss, the build he is playing with during this is probably the most overpowered build you could do without summons and magic. The flashstep makes her combos much easier to dodge, the duel katanas are really quick with high damage output and stagger + the bleed makes them do even more damage. The flashstep makes you able to also wear a lot more and heavier armor making her hits not hit as hard either. Clarifying to anyone who spent hours on this boss.
Yeah Charlie had the most op build in the game, and this boss is weak to it. The fact that it took him 34 tries or something is pretty telling of how ridiculous Malenia is.
yup.. to boot: one of the best weapons to abuse the fact she can be staggered (thanks to high attack speed and decent hitting power), Iframes that last an eternity, and cold AND bleed combined for the nastiest procs ever on a boss that doesn't have that much health (since she compensates by healing on hit). My one successful attemps was made with a summoned player, both of us going with bleeding. (me with a shield and pike buffed with blood as I'm a strengh build, and the otehr player with a big pair of sickles) Trying to beat her with heavy, slow weapons though... pretty sure it flat out CANNOT be done.
I cheesed the hell out of this boss. I spammed the blasphemous blade weapon art, it constantly staggers her in phase one. I was so tired of being murdered so I said fuck it and cheesed her. And yet she still obliterated me. What a hard boss man.
How did you even hit her with it, everytime i did it she dodged it or attacked me. With mimic is a crazy cheese but without it i couldn't get a single hit in
@empreus damn that's the move i dislike the least tbh. Her other moves have insane reach which makes me think i'm at a safe distance at times when i'm not. Also her quick succession of hits (not the flurry) is dodgeable for sure but it's quite quick so it can catch you off guard. Then the flurry of course is her worst attack, can only dodge it with bloodhound step if you're not far enough (which is very far), or with a shield but she also heals if you use one, there is another way but ongbal himself said it's very hard so yeah. But yeah the fact that i literally can't hit a blasphemous blade weapon art because she dodges it still stands, i genuinely don't understand how you can hit her with it, unless of course you use a mimic tear
@@Pinocchio29Learn how to really use bloodhound step, it basically trivializes her whole fight once you learn how to evade her bullshit bc without her vampirism life steal, she’s actually a lot like Maliketh (very squishy)

Watching Charlie fight these bosses makes me think I can do it too and motivates me to play the game and now that I have a handle of the dodge timings and just combat in general, I can’t stop playing the game. It’s so good.
That roll attack is the most hilarious shit I've seen in ages, it's the least intimidating charge ever that literally rolls people over. I mean, just look at this guy: 20:12 Dude was probably having an epic RP session, looking out over the hill like some anime protagonist. Funniest shit is they probably saw Charlie coming, saw he didn't look as cool as them, and thought "Peh, rolling at me? Do you think you can harm me with such a paltry- OW, FUCK! What the hell? How is it doing so much dam- AGHGHGH!" Definitely a moment to be carved into a wall of granite, forever marked in history as the saddest way to go, killed by an electric roly poly.
I figured out how to 100% dodge her large combo, at first you dodge back then dodge forward, then dodge forward again. Once she goes in the air you dodge under her then back as many times as you can and it dodges the whole thing.
I do that except, for the last fury of blades, I stand still for a bit, when she runs behind you roll away twice, and then punish with a jumping attack.
Listening to his words, watching his movements, your definitely the calmest gamers ive seen fighting her, but at the same time, knowing this is the hardest fight in the game makes each death feel more of a learning experience then an attempt.
Some tips (I've noticed from fighting her. 1. 04v) (Did this solo btw.) 1.) she's got low ass poise, go ham and stagger her. Tactical staggering. 👌 Can even interrupt her sometimes. 2.) Any melee weapon that has long range or a long ash of war range, go in there and start bashing when she just starts walking and staring at you. Remember, she got low ass poise. You can put some combo moves out there. 3.) Her waterfowl dance... I ain't no veteran, so just Bloodhound step it. You'll figure it out. 4.) know that she is the one and only Malenia, blade of Miquella. 5.) Also when you get to the boss for the very first time, after the cut scene, have your finger at the ready at the dodge button. Because she, after the cut scene, immediately attacks you. It's fcking quick as well.
Some more tips For her first attack in phase 2, wait for her to slightly hover up, then dodge. You know once you see it. To dodge waterfowl, just as far as you can and then roll into her once she tries her 3rd wave of attacks. You can also predict when she'll use it. She will usually use it once she gets to 3/4 health so try and create distance when you are approaching that. She will also slow down how long her attacks go for. So if she does 1-3 attacks and then goes back to idle a couple of times, expect she will most likely use Water Fowl sometime soon. Take breaks if you get a bit too heated. Take some time off to reflect on what you are doing wrong and how to fix it. Once you are mad, you will only do worse and have a worse time. Change your loadout. I used a sword and shield for most of my playthrough but I abandoned the shield for this fight. I also changed a lot of my tailsmens to see what one gave me more defense or did more attack. BEST TIP: Do not get mad. Think that every attack CAN be dodged and that none are unfair. If you just accept that this is the hardest boss that FS has made, you'll have a lot more fun than frustrating.
@@xDbrad Can't you only do one ending for every playthrough tho? Because while planning on trying to get the ending achievements I couldn't fight the final boss again.
@@jatinmarcob2128 so once you beat the final boss you can quit the game, copy the folder somewhere, and do the ending, then quit the game and paste the copied folder back and it acts as a save, so as long as you do all the right quests you can do every ending in one play through
That's kinda the feeling I've been having with a lot of Elden Ring bosses, no satisfaction just frustration. Instead of being like "wow that boss was amazing" it's "I'm glad that bullshit is over. I never want to fight that thing again."
i've been stuck on the Malenia fight for 2 days, switched to Charlie's build and killed her first try. Charlie is without a doubt the greatest gamer of the modern age.

@@anthonymorales5815 You can simply respec to like 30 END, throw on heavy ass armor and a weapon with Hoarfrost Stomp, summon your mimic and pray she doesn't use her anime move. I was summoned for malenia and the person who summoned me was spamming the laser beam on the night and flame sword, stun locking her because she was knocked by it. Suffice to say she died easily
Yeah she's not that hard, just really punishing if you didn't build right. She's a dps check, she has a smaller health pool than most bosses but can heal on hit. If you didn't balance your damage with your tank stats you're gonna get your shit pushed in.
I've been in a LOT of other people's games where they used that stray, sometimes even two of them were using it, but not a single one beat her, she either dodged or the sword wasn't upgraded enough to actually hurt her. There was only 2 games where they did a good amount of damage but they neither had enough health to survive the grab attack.
@empreus Grow up. She didn’t take me that long either, but I can understand that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. A boss that might seem easy to you can be hard for someone else. That’s what’s amazing about souls games. Everyone has a different experience. Don’t make other people feel bad about having a hard time with her.
@empreus Oh thats why. Every boss in the game is easy if you use rotting breath, even the godskin duo, malekith, and the one before the last boss. Godskin duo is justified since thats literally an unfair ass fight. Shits gay.
I think a good tip for people who are having a hard time dodging her Waterfowl Dance is to have a shield in your left hand, and when she’s about to do that move, double-hand the shield. You negate the damage taken, and because the shield is two-handed, it doesn’t take up too much stamina to block it. Just block the first combo, dodge the second one, then block the third one to conserve stamina so your guard doesn’t get broken.
It better be game of the year or imma riot. No open world game or any game this year has had as much care and content as this game. The amount of exploration, customization and replay ability is unparalleled
If anyone's struggling with the flurry, waterfowl dance, run away from the first (two if you're far enough), and dodge into her on the 3rd. You can somewhat bait it, if you stand close enough for her to use it (about 10m) but not close enough that you can't get away, she'll usually use it at 25% intervals (or at least unlocks it) ESPECIALLY when getting up from a stagger.
I actually found dodging INTO her last two flurries very helpful. I would run away from the first one and dodge away with flash step and then get hit a bit but then dodge into her last two flurries with no damage with it.
@@darksteelmenace595 lmao, if you bait her into using it it's almost guaranteed (at least in my 100 deaths fighting her) that she won't use it again for a minute or two, so you can with more confidence stay close. 3:22 It is only because of that move that makes her difficult. If Malenia didnt have that move, after like 10-15 attempts, most people would be able to beat her
Took me over 100 attempts to beat her without summons or any cheese. I wasnt even using Bleed either, just straight up beat the shit outta her. Hardest boss in Elden ring in my opinion, after you beat her nothing compares.
Had 2 first good solo attempts, brought her very low in phase 1 both times Decided to use the mimic for the third one Poor thing died immediately, I had like 10 or 9 estus left Mimic is a bit strong
He got so lucky in the end when I fight her she just spams her wombo ultra slash triple combo over and over and in second phase if you fuck up the spacing/dodge even slightly its instant death.
As with any boss, there's a few ways to cheese. If anyone's having trouble, here's one way: Fingerprint Greatshield and Greatshield Talisman can reach 100 guard boost; her grab and the flower are the only attacks that can get through. She'll heal, but with any decent weapon and regular attacks, not as quickly as you're damaging her.
Another good one if you have the stats for it and don't care about summons: Blasphemous Blade on mimic. Rivers of Blood for yourself. Mimic can spam the ash of war for BB, which knocks her over almost every time. Then you can come in with RoB and deal massive bleed damage without retaliation.
Another favourite of mine: “Says doesn’t use summons but uses estoc” “What is this weird gatekeeping? What did you use, nothing but a frying pan? What are you talking about? I really like the souls community but it’s the weird fucking twitch viewers that gatekeep like you’re not allowed to use a useful weapon. It makes no fucking sense”
I listened to this woman repeat the same lines for probably 6 hours at level 140. I didn’t know what I was walking into when I first fought her, I stomped her in the first phase on my second try and almost every time after that, but that second phase is brutal

how i dodged the waterfowl dance: +25 medium shield with vow of the indomitable barrage 1: you can use vow to block 3/4 of the first flurry if you time it well. Hold block while in the animation so you block frame 1 as you come out, you shouldnt take any damage. barrage 2: as soon as she pauses, roll behind her as best you can, she'll hopefully miss you. its still possible to take some damage here depending on RNG, but in my experience its rarely lethal. barrage 3: as soon as she pauses again, while she's in the air, roll straight forward, hold block, and walk backwards. if you time the rolls perfectly, you can escape with 0 damage (most of the time very little). i didnt know this before the fight, but upgrading your shield makes you lose less stamina when blocking. very helpful.
Finally beat her after 7 hours. I started using bloodhound step 5.5 hours in and made things a lot easier since most of my runs ended with her flurry attack.
As someone with a bloodhound build. Malekith took me 14 hours. The problem is all your damage is in the hound step the sword gives you. But with relentless bosses it will flash step you into their attack unless it’s perfectly timed or they aren’t attacking very fast. And late game… neither happen lol
For my second playthrough (still ongoing) I committed to not using Summons unless absolutely necessary. After several dozen deaths to Malenia I cracked and went for the Mimic. Honestly, pretty useless, since she heals off of it. So eventually I just abandoned that idea and (finally) beat her. It was brutal.
Souls fans try not to get mad when streamer doesn't beat Malenia at RL1, no ashes of war, no spells, no armor, no dodging, and no bitches challenge (impossible)
Trying to beat her legit rn in ng+, had to use mimic tear +10 to beat her on the first playtrough. Mimic +10 is the absolute goat, dude Just tanked every hit like it was nothing and having two heavy weapons made the Boss into a stagger fest. In the end it didn't feel earned.
I don't understand this. You took the time to lvl everything and it's in the game. You beat the boss? You spent hours earning it. Do you really have to suffer more to make it 'worth it'?

Before you know, he abused the freak outta that horse
Radahn technically didnt even get downed by the scarlet rott bomb. Couldnt be killed or even signifigantly damaged by it (physically speaking)
If she had tried to continue fighting him in his deranged madness she would have for sure died.

Afaik status effect katanas are literally like the best possible weapon against her
Yeah Charlie had the most op build in the game, and this boss is weak to it.
Listening to his words, watching his movements, your definitely the calmest gamers ive seen fighting her, but at the same time, knowing this is the hardest fight in the game makes each death feel more of a learning experience then an attempt.
Some tips (I've noticed from fighting her. 1. 04v) (Did this solo btw.)
1.) she's got low ass poise, go ham and stagger her.
Some more tips
For her first attack in phase 2, wait for her to slightly hover up, then dodge.
I think Charles should totally go for a 100% achievements on this game, such a worthy game for the effort.

I think a good tip for people who are having a hard time dodging her Waterfowl Dance is to have a shield in your left hand, and when she’s about to do that move, double-hand the shield. As with any boss, there's a few ways to cheese. Blasphemous Blade on mimic. Rivers of Blood for yourself. Mimic can spam the ash of war for BB, which knocks her over almost every time. Then you can come in with RoB and deal massive bleed damage without retaliation.

+25 medium shield with vow of the indomitable
barrage 1: you can use vow to block 3/4 of the first flurry if you time it well.
