Haha, I wouldn't quite assume that. I think it, like a lot of anime openings/closers, is a love song about running away from the troubles of life with someone you trust. I think the "Rusty Machine Gun" is in reference to Bulma's old designs from Toriyama on the manga where she'd be on a motorcycle and holding a machine gun. Metaphorically, it's about getting old and wanting to relive a few glory days, one last adventure before the curtains close. Sounds pretty in line with Dragon Ball GT as a whole if you ask me. 🙂
I used to think the ending scene with Goku 100 years after leaving with Shenron looking at his life then turning to look at his friends was them in heaven and spends paradise with them. The song also made me think someone was ending their life too 😂 but other times I think it's someone trying to break away from the normal boring life and do something adventurous/challenging with someone. You can kind of see "We'll take this rusty machine gun, we'll fire away and we'll blast right out of here" as a double meaning as being literal and metaphorical 😂
I usually translate the original Japanese lyrics then rewrite them to be singable. It helps in this case where the first verse was already officially translated by Funi, so the rest just had to match tonally.
