I truly enjoyed this video! Watched it twice already! I'm hoping to get into the studio to do one myself this week! You always have such useful hints and comments. I learn something every single time I watch! THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing your talents and wisdom with us all!
Nice Demo using a warm colored under painting. Amazing way to see how much depth can be created when applying colder/darker colors on top, kind of like being a sculptor, but using a pastel.
You are an inspiration. I mainly use oil pastels and watercolors, but have learned much about light and shadow, and a lot more, that helps with my chosen art mediums.....thanks! I love your tutorials!
Love the trees, and the various vegetables. Our granddaughters make a Nature Wreath, with acorns, leaves, flowers, wood, and potpourri. Thank you for sharing your skill and encouragement!
Beautifully observed, fantastic colour! I love how painterly this is. I'm glad you left the shadows red, they remind me of Jasper Johns paintings. Thank you for sharing this brilliant demo.
Alain is fantastic, not just with art but with teaching as well. If there was ever a pastel class on masterclass dot com, it should have Alain as the instructor! Can’t wait for his painterly portrait workshop this time!!
Interstellar squashes!! Commander Picard permission to board the USS pastel enterprise! Dagnabbit missed the launch. . .sigh. . You are a spectacular instructor! Beautiful painting! I will try to send my painterly Apple and pear to Instagram...thank you!!
Brilliant, the the texture on the blanket is dazzling! Could you tell me the name of the brush you are blending with? Thank you amazing video learned so much! Blessings to you . How did you get the pumpkin to look so plump at center line? Simply gotgeous👌🏼!
Thank you for your teacher's heart! I am learning so much from your videos. Do you use a specific sharpener with your nupastels so that they don't break?
You're welcome! I use a single edge razor blade to sharpen my Nupastels. You can see how in my video here at about 10 minutes ruclips.net/video/J5lqMyEq_sc/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Hi Alain, Thanks for painting another still life. It’s a genre that I find very inspiring and it’s great to move on to two objects. I missed the live broadcast but I do have two questions that I hope you will be able to answer for me. First, I hear the terms “scumbling” and “glazing” but watching on the screen, I find it hard to detect a difference. Is there one? Second, people always talk about the value of working “plein air” rather than exclusively from photos. With this is mind, I am wondering why you chose to work from a photograph of your still life rather than from the actual objects in their set-up with lighting? I apologize if these require complex responses that would be more easily handled live! Thanks again for the great demo. Kind regards, Amanda
Love your painterly style that like the impressionists, just suggests the shapes.
