You capture the scene that's in the source image, but at the same time, you add something beautiful, magical, and uniquely yours. I love your work, Alain, and it's a real treat to see you create the magical scene from the source image! Thank you for posting this! All the best to you! Donna
Once again, this painting is so stunningly beautiful! I am always mesmerized as I watch you identify a hint of a color which is magical when applied. Suddenly a color I didn't see makes total sense! What a gift to have such a range of colors to choose from in your mind's eye! I could watch for hours every day!! THANKS!!!
I Love the painterly effect. Nothing Is static...everything is in movement... Looks like oil... Amazing way to paint. Love the music and your peaceful voice of Course.
I love watching you painting, Alain!!! You inspired me to paint all the clouds I have collected in a separate folder. Thank you so much for your beautiful art and great teaching methods!❤❤❤
Alain, I am inspired and am pulling out pastels to paint a cloud scene. I thank you for generously sharing your time and talent, the painting is beautiful. You are a very kind human being.
I can watch Alain forever but I do not see what he is seeing at all. It mesmerizes me. I spend hours attempting pastels and is by far the most expensive hobby I ever embarked on with zero results.
Sorry to hear you're discouraged. That's unfortunate. To start, are you seeing the darker & lighter areas? Blocking those in first is critical. Those areas DO NOT have to look like what they are supposed to be toward the end. You say , "duh, of course I am doing this!" I don't know, but not sure why you say you're getting zero results and Alain is an excellent teacher. If you do start with identifying and blocking the darks & lights, with very loose strokes. that's half the battle. Wishing you better luck in your pastel journey. p.s. you don't have to start w/the most expensive supplies either. While you're just learning, don't burden yourself with HAVING to have the most expensive supplies. If the cost of recommended supplies is too much and this is only an "exploring" thing for you, get some of the lower cost "student grade" from brand names in soft or extra soft sets on Amazon or that are available at Michael's. Then skip the sanded paper. Just get a decent quality pastel paper. Your results will not look exactly like a professionals or other experienced pastel artists. And check out some other pastel art channels too. If the goal is to learn, explore and be inspired, that's what most important. When you "get it" and want more, then treat yourself to more expensive supplies!
Hullo Alain, thank you for sharing this wonderful video of painting clouds! I am just so excited that you will soon be opening up your landscape painting course. I have learned so much and I believe everyone that desires to improve their soft pastel painting techniques should give your course a try! You have a truly wonderful setup video and brief introduction to the best course that anyone can take and receive techniques to improve their own personal journey with soft pastels! Thank you for sharing your lovely painting experience with us. These clouds are truly beautiful in every way.
An important lesson for me. The first layer of large shapes looked messy actually! I want to go to smooth, covering all underpainting from the get go. Stepping back to work on large shapes first is critical for me to advance. Thank you for the clear justification for how well it works. Thank you Alain . Before Ii forget - I really enjoyed meeting you at IAPS!
Hi Alain I love your videos. Thankyou very much for sharing your amazing expertise. I wonder if you have your photo anywhere in a larger size to use as a reference? I am finding it a little hard to see.
I was impressed by your wonderful drawings. And you have great skills. It motivated me. If you don't mind, could you tell me the name of the pastel you use?
Yes, he does have a video on mounting your sanded paper onto a mat board or foamcore. You can also buy pre-mounted papers. I have purchased several different kinds from Dakota Pastels. You can call them or inquire through e-mail, they are tremendously helpful!
@@AlainPicard That is wonderful. I use UART grit paper and overlooked their boards. I'll check them out. Also, glad to see a new upload, I was talking about your channel to someone (in real life) a few weeks ago. :)
Perhaps you might want to have your eyes checked? Everyone else sees this as a beautiful, artistic depiction of the clouds and scene in the reference photo.
Thank you for continuing to provide free lessons. You inspire me to keep painting!

Can you say again the name of the brush you were using to blend?
It is a Hake brush, i don’t think this one is still available but a soft, flat brush works well.
I've been watching your videos for years its ha-keh, romaji from はけ
thanks, glad you enjoy, keep painting!
