Bold of you to assume I'm not just trying to memorize songs for a road trip to be as annoying as possible to my friends
Thanks Josie....I actually never considered it!!!!
This was great, been searching for "hard to memorize things" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Yiyevi Ponevi Approach - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my co-worker got cool success with it.
even though i don't even have to remember this song, i just really want to be able to sing it constantly
Which song?
@@PowerToSing know 5 and I never watched this, looking if this would get me to half a hour of songs I know whole (I know a kwarter hour of whole songs)

Memorizing songs (both lyrics and timing) may have just been the greatest challenge I've faced when it comes to learning how to sing. Thank your for this 😊
Good luck. This takes work but it's help me a lot.

Wow, that's pretty intense Chuck.
Sing it 1000 times, you'll remember it. In fact, by then you'll have the timing down about perfect and have your voice all tuned up.
Yes! Do what works best for you!
I did this and for my first song (golden hour) I learned the first half though shorts with I found the song from I knew the first half but didnt the second half because that's not in the shorts
(I know I whole now)
Good tip, I approve this
I used to sing Nightwish and Within Temptation and Evanescence songs etc hundreds of times more than a decade ago, so I used to know those lyrics automatically back then, but it seems like I forgot most of the lyrics, and I also keep forgetting how certain lines start in some of the newer songs in Norse and Gothic and Icelandic and Faroese and Dutch and Norwegian etc that I’ve been learning over the past 18 months or so, such as Óðinn and Gleipnir and Níu etc and many others, and I noticed that it’s usually when a line starts with a preposition or adverb I tend to forget how the line starts more often, for some unknown reason, but, I am trying to rehearse them more and also trying to re-learn the other songs too - I am also having major difficulty trying to memorize my own lyrics, which are beyond complex and the hardest lyrics ever to memorize, being full of big terms and rare terms etc and without repetition of the same word in the same song (except for the adverbs and conjunctions and prepositions) and just feel impossible to memorize, and many of them have so many long stanzas, so usually one of them is like the equivalent of ten normal songs or more, with each line usually being longer than a whole stanza from regular lyrics, so I don’t know how am I going to memorize so many words in the same order, but I seem to be able to memorize tons of new words in all the Norse / Germanic / Nordic / Celtic / Latin languages that I am learning and in the other target languages, but it’s still different because when I am learning languages I don’t have to memorize the words in any particular order, but with lyrics that are very complex it just feels so impossible to remember the words in that exact order, so I don’t know what to do!
Thank you SO much! I have an audition for Mary Poppins and I had to choose a song and learn it in *3 days.* But this helped me leaern it quick!
Fantastic!
Thank you so much, I’ve just joined my church worship team and I was struggling learning the lyrics to the songs, thank you so much for your tips, brilliant ❤
Awesome! Glad it's helping, Elizabeth!
This is a great exercise for song writers. This fasho will help fill up Morning Pages. I will try this out for I am a Rapper who needs help remembering my own songs

Really fine lessons to remember each and every part of song easily
As a new singer, I find myself already knowing most of the vocal things I should know. I just have to practice lung capacity and not voice cracking and shaking when people are hearing me sing online. Very helpful!
Awesome! Thanks.

Harry Lorayne is one of the great stage magicians. This method 'seems' overly complicated, but if Harry used it for the mentalist part of his act then I'm willing to give it a shot.
Hi Jeff: I think his book is amazing. He makes it seem so easy to do!
Brilliant & thank you 😎
Thank you too!
I just remember a line or two at a time as pairs, and go by the rhyming scheme, then remember the order of the verses but uh.. your way seems a lot more fun lol
What's important is that it works for you when you need it in the moment on stage!
I’m trying to memorize a song for my school play, I’m playing Lord Farquaad, you know although I’m 5’5 and female...my first audition is tomorrow soooo...Thank you so much 😂

Great! Thanks. I'm actually using it right now too. Memorizing lyrics for a show I'm rehearsing.
@@PowerToSing that's cool!
Going to try this because being the lead singer, rhythm and lead guitar is hard. I have so much to memorize all the time and need to find an effective way to memorize the harmony and riffs and lyrics bc it takes from my stage presence 😭
It takes work, but you can do it.
Just what I was looking for! And more. Thanks.
Glad I could help!
5 Year old video and still responding.
What a Chad.
Thanks. The main reason is I really do want to help if I can.
I have been a singer in multiple tribute bands, such as an Elvis Costello tribute band, which was amazing but also a huge challenge in terms of memorizing his beautiful lyrics. (Lucky for me, I've been singing along to his hundreds of songs since 1980). One of my biggest challenges in the past few years was having to learn REM's "End of the World As We Know It," and I found that I naturally ended up using the techniques you describe here! Thanks for a great video.
Thanks Mark!
Maybe it's hard for me to follow because it's your imagination, but I'll try this one next time. Hopefully the lyrics sticks longer than usual. :D
Basically you have to visualize your lyrics as you say them.
But often it is helpful to think of something crazy or outlandish that will help you see your lyrics. That's where this video will help.
Great video!
Thank you 😍
It would be easier just to learn the lyrics
For sure.
I really hoped this was going to give me something useful. How would I ever remember all that crazy imagery if I can’t remember a lyric? The imagery is way more complex than the lyric.
What I found out is the work I put into the imagery helped me memorize. But don't feel like you have to memorize the whole thing this way. Pick out one idea or word per verse and memorize those. See if that helps the other things come to your mind.
is it necessary to link the different ridiculous pictures to one another? Or does every ridiculous picture automatically reminds you of the next ridiculous picture and simultaneously to the lyrics?
Good question Simon. Personally I've found that unless I link them, I will forget the next picture. I need the two in the same image...otherwise I get a "blank" image.
You never showed a picture of the words you used so I’m confused? :/ I don’t get it
This is the best
guys you know you can just right the lyrics on a peice of paper then read again and again until you memorize them
Great point. And for those who need extra help like me...this may be helpful.🙂
Hmm, nah. Just reading is a passive form of learning. The technique in this video, and even just simply trying to recall the lyrics from memory, are way more effective than reading.
Depends on what type of person you are. For me, the more visual something is, the better i recall it. So imagining something crazy based on the lyrics actually helped me remember better. Some can remember text-based information faster. For me, not only will it take longer, it's also extremely tedious and boring.
The song I’m thinking about is I Got Bitches

Tryin to remember as much CSA songs as possible thx
You are welcome
meanwhile i: am trying to learn all the raps to the falling in reverse songs within two months
Wow...how many songs is that?
Pssht uhmmm almost every fir song haha id say at least 15 but i had about 6 of them down before i watched this
@@Kat-yv5ye Awesome Kat!
The problem is I can't remember the lyrics or a series of pictures in my head. I can't see pictures in my head.
Thats a tough one. There are a lot of resources online of experts in memory systems that may be able to suggest alternatives to pictures. I wouldn't give up. I think you can do it!
Honestly, I have no idea how someone can remember the lyrics to an entire song. That's why I would never, ever perform publicly. Performing in front of people is the ultimate nightmare.
Don't let memorization stop you. There are so many ways to work around that.
Anyone else here the day before a concert?
I'm sure there is a concert somewhere tomorrow!
A serious struggle 😢 on many occasions lol

Can anyone tag Alex Turner?
It's very complicated and not practical. In order to memorize the lyrics of any song just listen a lot and repeat..
Now, how do I remember my own stories and pictures that I'm making to remember the song
I write mine down. It helps me if I can have the lyrics double or triple spaced so I can write my pictures above the lyrics.
I have solo and ensemble in 2 hours and I don’t have my solo memorized! Thanks!
Wow! That's cutting it kind of close!
I make so music i can't remember none of my lyrics
This will help!
I'll be singing along with Eminem in no time
Great!
This device is just confusing to me and does not help me memorize lyrics at all. I get caught up trying to remember what ridiculous imagery I came up with that I can’t remember what it’s supposed to remind me of. I saw a similar technique being used by memory athletes who compete to memorize sets of digits. They said they created mental visuals that would jog their memories. Doesn’t work for me…I’ll stick to endless repetition.
It takes time to learn the technique. You may want to try making images and place them in your home or apartment or other familiar location. For example you might picture "Jose' with a can smashed over his head floating on the sea" in your bathroom to remember "O say can you see", then a giant sun burning up your fridge in the kitchen to remember, "By the dawns early light"...etc. Using rooms and items in your room as a place to put your funny pictures.
Can i do this only in one day to memories the song
@Beyonce Ching16 I can memorize a song in a day using this technique ...if it's not too long. However, even though I can recite it....even though it's memorized, I have to practice it with the music and sing it through multiple times....so the pictures connect fast enough in my head to be able to perform them for an audience. And it helps me to practice for an audience ( like my cast in a rehearsal) to really solidify it.
Thanks, old man
You're welcome SS!
This sounds very complicated
“For thousands of people” more like my mirror

As soon as you dropped the book out of video..I forgot the title!😅😂🤭 as for the rest, you Lost me with all those Associations eishh..
That's ok. You will find that the longer you work at it...the easier it gets.
Sorry mate, you've completely lost me. It's like my brain's about to explode. I have absolutely no idea what you're saying.
The simple version is create crazy, insane stories/, mental pictures out of the words. So when you think of them they remind you of the words. Working that hard at it also helps you remember the words.
Wow
Geez! No need to complicate it! This method seems far more arduous than learning lyrics by repetition and practice.
You are right. No need for it unless rote and repetition aren't enough...as in my case.)
Does this help to learn Yakko's World? lol
Wow! Probably...with a lot of work!
That may work for some, but trying to remember all that other stuff?? That association stuff just doesn't work for me. Thanks.
Thanks Larry. It takes work that's for sure.
@@PowerToSing I really didn't mean it in a negative way, I just cant make work for me. Thank you.🙂
@@larryhaynes3875 No worries Larry.. I didn't take it as a negative just a matter of fact. Sometimes just rote memorization is easier/faster. I tend to use a combination of these things.
Maybe also because people do think in different ways. Some with words, some with images, kinesthetic, or mix of them. And some images are dynamic and blurry, some are still and detailed, etc.
I have to learn nine songs in one week
It takes time and work. It will help you if you can make a play list and listen to the songs as much as possible when you are not working on memorizing.
Early much?
Pardon my remark but it appears with this method that we are actually memorizing 3 times the amount of words than the actual lyrics of the song 😂. Thats what improves your memory i guess 😅
A picture is worth 1000 words. One good picture and bring a lot of lyrics to the mind.
lol I'm just here to memorize Neotheather before the concert
Hi Emily, Nice to have you drop by!

That's memory palace applied to lyrics memorisation, it has a problem, you need to have a good base in English.
I don't speak another language. Why couldn't you use the same principles in any language?
@@PowerToSing I mean, to learn lyrics writen in English...
@@TheGrmany69 Just connect them with very similar sounding words in your native
@@atomnous it's problematic i you want to use the technique to achieve proficiency in the language the song is written.

It's not easy. But it's works very well. Essentially you make up crazy words and stories that help bring the actually words to your remembrance. I recommended The Memory Book by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas. It's really helpful.
