As a precision 22lr shooter this may be the best, most honest, with accurate information video I've ever seen explaining upgrades and the pros and cons of the upgrades and what acceptable groups look like for competition shooting. Awesome Awesome video!
Great video. I think we forget the most important component in any shooting activity. The shooter. We have a young guy in my club over here in the UK who has the one and only RimX's I've ever seen. They are incredibly expensive here. He had it custom built with what looks like a scaffold pole for a barrel and a very expensive chass. It cost him thousands. He won the first two competitions he tried. Then along came one of our "older" members with a 50/60+ year old BSA martini henry single shot target rifle. The kid with the RimX consistently comes second (sometimes third or worse) to the old timer with the BSA. in 50- and 100-meter bench rest comps. The old timer can sure shoot. Doesn't matter how much you pour into a gun if your shooting fundamentals aren't right you won't win. Love your work. Looking forward to the next one.
There gets a stage where a CZ is no longer a CZ imo. And the cost of custom builds is beyond many of us so I have to ask what is the point? My 457 groups well enough to a hundred metres with all ammo brands, including none lead ( it is used for pesting and club ) And I agree, the shooter is the biggest factor. Guess that old maxim "a fool and his money" is true.
@Jon, a rifle is only a tool and that tool is only as good as it's user. When you asked "what's the point?" The point is to enjoy this hobby. Some of us are involved competitivly in NRL22, PRS or Benchrest. This tool we are using for this sport at some point becomes inadequate to compete at the top level, when YOU accuire the skills. If you feel your rifle will perform with the best, then I highly encourage you to join practicescore and sign up for a local 100m Benchrest, NRL22 match. As the saying goes, "You don't know what you don't know". Complaining about how expensive these custom builds are is like complaining how expensive a pro golfer's club set is....
Consistent with my experiences with Rimfire. I shot NRA smallbore Silhouette and Rimfire PRS for years. I found that all rifles are picky for ammo, and when changing ammo, it takes about 10 rounds for the new ammo to re-foul the barrel with it's own dirt... so to speak. I also found Rimfires do NOT like clean bores. In fact, I did NOT clean my rimfires (match ammo only) until end of season, or about 4000 rounds, and then it would take about 50 rounds to get them properly fouled again. I shot mostly CZ (452 back then), and I never saw much for tuners in the open classes until the 2010's. If you're on a budget, go stock CZ, find the ammo it likes best, and use that leftover $$ NOT spent on a Vudu22 to shoot 1000's of rounds. One upgrade you didn't consider, I always put a Timney trigger on my competition rifles, a lot of times the only upgrade I did. That consistent trigger pull helped immensely. A+ Video, thanks.
Thanks for sharing your expirence and agree. Yes, I left the trigger upgrade out of this because it can be viewed as improving the shooters ability to shoot more consistently vs the rifle. Also sets the base line to learn trigger control first before jumping to a 10oz trigger and develop bad habits.
Do yo u recommend CZ 457 American, or CZ 457 varmint with heavier barrell or something else? Also how important are threaded barrells as not all of the models come with it?
I totally agree. I was in the fly fishing industry for many years. So many anglers get caught up in buying the best gear possible, thinking it will make them a better angler. The trout don't care how much your rod costs. If they can afford it, it's no big deal, but at the end of the day, it's usually the wizard and not the wand. Just like spending that extra cash on a guide vs the latest reel is going to exponentially make you a better angler, spending the extra cash on ammo and practicing fundamentals will make you a better shooter. Then make the jump to something spendier, assuming you'll still love it after spending that time.
As someone who hunts as well as range shoots a rifle that achieves cold bore + point of aim = point of impact and then goes on to shoot a ~ 0.7 MOA or less group including the cold bore is a shooter, no question. That lack of cold bore deviation is vitally important as a hunter. Congratulations on a series of informative and well thought out videos.
I have a CZ 457 Varmint in a Boyds AT One stock, using a Harrell tuner and also a bolt shim. It absolutely loves SK Standard Plus. When I do my part it's a 5 shot one hole group at 50 yards. I love my setup. I learn a lot watching your videos. Keep up the great work. Thanks.
I think a lot of people these days are just addicted to blowing money on accessorizing. I somewhat understand doing so if a person is competing and there is money on the line, but most guys just love to spend that money, regardless if they get results or not. I don't think most even look at cost / benefit analysis. I don't mind spending 3 or 4x what a stock rifle costs IF I get 3-4x the results. I can't justify that kind of cost to shoot a .050 or .100 smaller group, but then again I'm not a competitive shooter either. I'm enjoying the channel and honesty. Found you a couple days ago and subbed. Take care.
Excellent content, nicely presented and you did not try to push for your custom barrel...just presented what you observed and did not try to omit the data when got surprising result with the surpressor...thanks for the time and effort making this video, well appreciated.
Thank you for making this video. There isn't much for rim fire competition in my area unless I go about 4 hours away. But I have been looking pretty hard at getting a 457. This is probably the most thorough video I have found.
They are the cats cat's meow I have 3 457 match chamber and barrel take it from me they are hard to beat maybe with a rimx but diffinatly not a voodoo too much money for a lot of problems. Beagleman
Buddy, I'm only two minutes in, but I already know this is going to be one of the most interesting and educational videos on .22 LR precision rifles I've ever seen. Holy shit, this is going to be fantastic! Bravo!!!
Great video. Tuner would be great choice over the suppressor. I have a 22 suppressor and never thought about the debris from it going into barrel, makes sense.
Kenny, I have enjoyed watching many of your videos . Have you ever done one to share your thoughts about how to clean and maintain the accuracy of a quality rimfire. I think that would interest a lot of shooters like myself. There seems to be many different opinions about cleaning rimfires in the shooting world. What has been your experience cleaning and shooting your fine rifles.
My cz 457 likes faster ammo plus 1200fps, cci stinger makes 10mm att 58 yqrds my gun is stock same set up as your's synthetic stock and thin threded berrel
Love my 457. I have the pro varmint model and it shoots way better than I can. I screwed up at the beginning of the PRS season and put myself in production division. Shot the match, took 2nd, was happy. Then I reread the rules the next day. Immediately contacted our MD and told him nope, put me in open division. My glass/rifle cost exceeded the cost limit. (Ran a Athlon midas tac scope, by msrp it put me $41 above the limit.) So I decided screw it, stay in open and bought a KRG Bravo stock for it. lol (Cheaper than new glass) Only thing I need to do with it is get the Area 419 rail for the scope so I can move it forward a bit more. The want to do, new trigger. Other than that I'm just going to run it. It shoots amazing with sk match rifle ammo. I use rimfire PRS as training for centerfire PRS.
Awesome Kenny. Full specked out custom just gives the consistency not capable of other project builds. Makes me more excited for my full (Kenny) custom to get done.
I found my CZ 457 .22 MTR shoot the Cheap NORMA almost as good as the SK Norma $5. per Box, SK $18 I also have the CZ 457 VARMINT Bull barrel. another TAC DRIVER. Likes the V-MAX, LOVES the VNT Got to love the CZ's Now I want to look into the tuner. But my barrels are not threaded, so more cost if I go that way for a tighter group. Wish I could post my group with both calibers at 50 yards from bench rest

Saw a real good group with the stock/OEM barrel so a frugal fella who’s not into competition will do just fine I’d say. And still be able to pay some bills alone the way
I know this is an old video, but I hope that you will still answer my question: When you changed to the MDT ACC chassis you complained that it wasn't balanced. I could see that being important if you were standing or, perhaps kneeling. But, when you're not actually holding the rifle (bags or a rest) what difference does it make? From what I've seen at benchrest matches weight is more important and the more the better.
Have a 457 American standard wood stock set up…have tried all different types of ammo BUT always shoots best with SK standard plus yellow label every time.
Recently subscribed...Great content and straight shooter. I have a CZ that had the 'cracking' you observed with the borescope in your video - CZ 455/457 Build series | Initial Accuracy - The cracking runs from muzzle end inside about 2" down . The rifle tosses fliers with every type of ammo I tried. I was shooting factory class at my local club, but this barrel put the stop to that. Not sure If I want to chance buying another CZ barrel or just put a 'real' barrel on it and shoot unlimited class. Depressing.
Thank-you Robbo. Any factory rifle will of course have the possibility sub par quality and accuracy. Even with prefit barrels theirs this possibility. Very few shops offer a guarantee based off the rifles tested performance. That's something I personally provide in my shop. Ive got multiple options for the 22lr both in barreled actions and full complete builds. Just google Desert Precision Gunworks
Hoping the one I have coming shoots as well. Nix the heavy barrel. Also will be taking advantage of their switchable barrels. The other positive about the 457 is it’s still selling for the same price a 452 was 20+ years ago. In a world where gun prices have escalated 50-100% Value for dollar. Thanks.
Good video and results, for me chassis arnt much to look at so I wonder how a good action and barrel in a more traditional stock would shoot considering the ergonomics.
Great video, thanks ! Where did you get those targets ? (MOA in 1/4 increments @ 100 Yards) They are an efficient use of space, I like em but my searching has come up with nothing...
nice information about some interesting points about tuners , cold bore shift , you knowledge and your opinions , with the price of rim X action or a vudoo the turbo is not very comon in prs or nrl ? i think it is same price or even less , it is nice to see one build for you and test it in video , great information and great videos .
I'm new to 22lr precission shooting a really rookie, and find your channel very informative. Have you had any experience with Volquartsen rifles, like them or not?
First thing I did with my 457 was to remove, yes, remove the trigger setting screw making the trigger as light as possible.. I would like to find a decent subsonic hollow point as the CCI 1050 fps I use is a lot less accurate than target rounds... Moderator fitted for vermin control.
Kenny, that's a great video! I'm in the market for a budget target grade 22LR, and I appreciate your shooting ability with the stock CZ and the EC Barrel Tuner to base a decision on instead of just marketing hype. Along the budget line, can you recommend a decent scope primarily for 25-50 yard targets? Also, can you recommend a Timney trigger upgrade? Thanks in advance, and I second the positive comments about your patient sons!
Thank-you. I would recommend the Athlon Helos BTR Gen 2 over the Arkens. The reticle has 2 tenth increments which is needed for 22lr over Arken. The glass is also clearer on the higher magnification. If your looking for more benchrest, Athlon makes a SFP 10-40x56
This a very informative video thank you for making it I'm in the market for a 457 and a friend sent me this video. I'm glad he did. I have to ask but what part of the US are you in? That is beautiful terrain I would think Arizona maybe?
Kenny I was tipsy at the end of the live stream the past weekend so if I was being annoying or a idiot I’m sorry I normally don’t drink. If I come on next weekend I won’t be drinking. I’m just going hang out and listen to everyone
I know this is a little late to ask but I just ran across your video… When you changed your barrels, did you happen to change your grub screws or just leave the factory ones on. I see that people are selling “upgrades” for that. Also, what’s your thought on changing the bottom metal? Thanks.
VERY GOOD INFORMATION. IF I HEARD RIGHT WERE LOOKING AT 2000 DOLLARS. THE ORIGINAL RIFLE 500 THE CHASSIS 1000 AND BARREL400. I WAS GOOD WITH THE ORIGINAL AND EC TUNER I FELT LIKE IT WAS VERY GOOD. WHO KNOWS WHAT IT WOULD DO WITH RWS OR LAPUA. THANK FOR TAKING THE TIME TO MAKE GREAT VIDEOS. WOULD LOVE TO SEE A RUGER AMERICAN THAT YOU CAN SHOW CASE
Thanks for awesome video. Could you please make some video about Tikka T1X? It is worse than Bergara/CZ or just all of them need more ore less work to be a tack driver? Thanks
I’d like one of your CZ builds !!! I shoot the Varmint MTR - very good at 50, pretty good at 100, but opens up at 200 !!! When will they be available ???
Digging the content man! When my rifle is built I’m gonna need a long range buddy. Is it safe to shoot over behind the heights? I think you know the spot. it’s the only place I can find consistently flat ground for long range stuff that’s within 30 minutes lol
The a hole developers blocked access to the old development east that I use to go to. They also call the cops and will chase you if they are working. Hit me up, ill show you my BLM spot thats near by

great video. I learnt a lot from you. I will tighten the action screws. I don't have the right tools.. Just wondering why you didn't try 100yrds. It'd have been a much better comparision. I'll go get some Sk rifle match matcho tomorrow lol. thank you for your hard work and money spent on doing tests.
I see very few videos where #1 guys know what they are doing with a precision .22 #2 explain what they are doing. One of the more popular .22 guys wants people to think he shoots CCI ammo and it does that well. I wish all the guys I compete against shot CCI. lol You have to find the ammo then the lot number of that ammo if you want to be competitive. CZ and Vudoo seem to like SK Rifle Match.

You might consider cleaning the suppressor because they do collect carbon over time after about every three hundred bullets

First thing I did with my 457 was to remove, yes, remove the trigger setting screw making the trigger as light as possible.. I would like to find a decent subsonic hollow point as the CCI 1050 fps I use is a lot less accurate than target rounds...

@@EagleEyeShooting and which scope rings would you recommend for the Athlon and the CZ457 Scope Base - 30 MOA?
Would love to see a Savage MK2 rebarrel. Not for sure if can be done very well with their actions though.
This a very informative video thank you for making it I'm in the market for a 457 and a friend sent me this video. I'm glad he did. I have to ask but what part of the US are you in? That is beautiful terrain I would think Arizona maybe?
GREAT INFO.
Kenny I was tipsy at the end of the live stream the past weekend so if I was being annoying or a idiot I’m sorry I normally don’t drink. If I come on next weekend I won’t be drinking. I’m just going hang out and listen to everyone
Lol np brother. Good times👍
Great video, any chance of a breakdown as to what you have in that little pouch toolkit? Looks neat and tidy
Borka Tool kit. X-Ring edition from xringcustom com
Thanks
Great content Kenny.
I’d like one of your CZ builds !!!
I shoot the Varmint MTR - very good at 50, pretty good at 100, but opens up at 200 !!! When will they be available ???
Good stuff Kenny!
Добрый день спасибо большое за видео очень интересно 🤝👍
Digging the content man! When my rifle is built I’m gonna need a long range buddy. Is it safe to shoot over behind the heights? I think you know the spot. it’s the only place I can find consistently flat ground for long range stuff that’s within 30 minutes lol
The a hole developers blocked access to the old development east that I use to go to. They also call the cops and will chase you if they are working. Hit me up, ill show you my BLM spot thats near by
@@EagleEyeShooting Aw man what a huge bummer, looked promising. Oh well. Lol For sure dude I appreciate that! Are you on any other social media where I can hit you up?
great video.
Thanks! Wind showed up. Testing at 100 yards wouldn't have shown results of the rifle without taking in environmentals
Um sonho uma arma dessas aqui no Brasil.
Belo trabalho parabéns
The best video 📹 🙌 👌 👏 ❤ 😍
I see very few videos where #1 guys know what they are doing with a precision .22 #2 explain what they are doing. One of the more popular .22 guys wants people to think he shoots CCI ammo and it does that well. I wish all the guys I compete against shot CCI. lol You have to find the ammo then the lot number of that ammo if you want to be competitive. CZ and Vudoo seem to like SK Rifle Match.
