To give an example of how bad shelter is One of the Guardian defender modules gives 15% damage reduction. This is almost as good as the 20% shelter effect from tsukinogi, but it works at max HP, doesn't take an extra deployment slot or a valuable ranged tile, and is already on the exact operators you want damage reduction on anyway. Oh, and tinfoil hat moment: tsukinogi is bad because hypergryph didn't want to bother designing a 6star abjurur supporter, so they made both the first operator and the archetype as bad as they possibly could to prevent anyone ever asking for one.

I think it's more the issue of Abjurers just being poorly designed as a entire subclass. It's very telling that they later changed Abjurers' base trait from what it originally was, because they themselves were still experimenting with class, which I honestly disliked, because it just made them worse medics. Like honestly, I do not understand the purpose or role of Abjurers. Only time you'd use them is when you need a medic, but you're lacking just that bit of dmg, so you need them to deal few base attacks as well. Originally it was clear they tried to make a new subclass that mixed both traits of Decel Binders and Hexer, but it didn't work out, so they tried to shift them more to healing, but removing their ability to attack while using skill, removed the only thing that was any good about them. I use her all the time and because she was first operator to receive true Invisibility and everyone since then got weaker Camouflage instead, cos HG realized it was too strong, she's truly unique and irreplaceable operator.

I feel like Tsuki's talent made her suck. If that Shelter effect has no HP restriction... it would make her less sucky, I guess. And maybe HG should rework Shelter to something like extra RES or DEF. And then there's her first skill. We know dodges could work. 2 star casters Durin and 12F has 50% dodges for Arts and Physical attacks respectively, and these two are pretty popular in low star clears. If they want to buff her first skill maybe that physical and dodge rate should be increased to Flametail levels.
I think the class just exists to pair with tanks, sometimes they don't need too much healing and using a medic just means that unit slot isn't dealing any damage.

Idk, they made shelter better in SSS by not needing to deploy her at all. What's worse is that it's global. A Medicx5 Lancet-2 is better than Tsukinogi. Edit: Abjurers were made inferior to an already existing supporter who is one star lower in rarity. I guess they made them work like that since Podenco users exclusively use her for her S2 nowadays and wanted some other supporters to fill that niche.

I think the real answer lies between all the options. 1) She was an experimental unit, classic. 2) Her kit was designed before they changed archetype trait and hasn't been adjusted since. Hense the "stops attacking". 3) And yes, she's probably there to bloat the roster, sadly. I think her kit would be way different if it was designed with archetype rework in mind. I really hope 6* abjurer gonna be actually good, or at least versatile so i can take it to IS idk?? Or i'll just skip them i guess.

Got Leizi last week and when i looked at her skills i was just sad. She removes the bounce dmg decrease but her module does it almost all the time, meanwhile Puddings completely removes the damage decrease at base level. Thats just sad.

Puddings skill is more spammable and can bounce back and forth between 2 or 3 enemies. I dont know how much Leizis module gives in sp and i didnt calculate module buffs for neither of them.

Putting aside the obvious argument that abjurers don't even matter since we have a plethora of options to delete opponents in a matter of seconds so why would you even need them... Their niche is pretty jank, "Shelter" effect sounds amazing on paper but then you realize it's an additional slot on the map that has to be put alongside units that already have some sort of sustain, or medics at which point... why even bother? I can guarantee that there are close to no situations where you'd need both normal healing AND Shelter, it's exceedingly rare. The HP threshold is also a very harsh condition, no wonder that NCD removes it with her S2 and Quercus traded some Shelter power for a 70%+ HP threshold that's insanely more useful since it actually makes you able to survive some heavy blows at full health. Hey at least abjurers became a bit better with each addition so there's that. Heck I actually use Quercus decently often, she even carried my butt in H10-3.
The only reason I ever thought of for using Tsukinogi was sticking her next to Helagur, and that still didn't sound good enough for me to actually bother doing it. I think they're afraid to make buff supporters at any rarity under 6* actually good. Just look at Windflit.
The only way i see to make abjurers good is to either revert them slightly and let them heal AND DPS during skill or to triple down on the buff nature. They should be closer to what bard supporters do, they are a "boost area" for your operators. Maybe giving all abjurers skills that proc something on heal, imagine how tsukinogi would be if her healing on-hit applied a short lived shield or made invis enemies take a DOT when revealed, or have her S2 healing give a small DEF bonus -on top of- shelter. They gotta do more with their "stance switch" between attacking and healing.

I also would like to think that HG didn't purposely make Tsukinogi and more like 'the experimental unit' for a better unit (then again, just like Captain Price once said: "It's not hard to improve on garbage"). S1 Tsukinogi is just copy/pasting Elysium because they can't think of anything at the moment and S2 is seems like an attempt to make her into a temporary Bard.
Tsukinogi's S1 is much stronger though. Elysium's S2 only reveal up to 4 units, that were in his range at the moment of casting. Tsukinogi has way long duration and keeps revealing anything that walks into her range, which makes her amazing on stages with a lot of stealth enemies you want to burst/kill fast.

Remember that Firewatch was actually nerfed shortly after release? Her 3 bombs at M3 used to be able to hit the same tile, thus stacking her damage to nuke stuff. Add to that that Czerny was shoved down our throat as the welfare operator in place of the Hibiskus alter we expected and wanted, thus purposefully making him the target of the palyerbase's hated. Gitano? Stuns herself after her skill. The deer? poor girl doesn't even have a nose! These convincing pieces of evidence leve me no choice but to conclude that Hypergriph do, in fact, hate deer! Seriously, they even broke her arm in her artwork. She was probably forced to pose for that right after one of the devs ran her over with a car on purpose. That's some obvious animal cruelty right there.
To be honest I couldn't understand what tsukinogi's role in a run in the first place , her damage output is just sad and the skill she provides are just.....eh ? Maybe something along that lines of being just no use for anything In general was her going full circle for her
I use Frostleaf and Kirara quite often.. Idk maybe not in CC/hardest ex stages but for almost all content it's not hard to use them. Especially in is2 kirara can solo 1 stage and frostleaf can hit air targets+cheap guard.
Kirara at least has the damage, Frostleaf is not good at general content but she's actually decent in IS since relics synergize well with her skill + expanded range. Also, Arene exists as a better option while being equally cheap to raise.

Theory #: I heard she was released suddenly during CC Beta in CN Back then there was this stage called Abandoned Tower (I still don't know why they settled for "Abandoned Highrise"). This stage is a drone-focused stage. One time, there was a risk combination of Banned Melee Ops and Invisible Drones. The available ops back then that can reveal invisible enemies were Melee operators (I only knew SilverAsh) and some players complained that max risk for that rotation is impossible. Thus, the sudden release of Tsukinogi
I Feel like all abjurer was made bad on purpose for battle and ok for base use. At least for nine-colored and Quercus got a decent base skill. I can't see what module they will end up having or how they will design a 6-star around it.
Nine-Colored Deer and Quercus are actually pretty decent in combat, it’s just that their kits are easily outclassed by others in most scenarios. Quercus is pretty much the weakest SP feeder, especially considering most of the feeders in the game are 5 stars.

as a noblock player, i can confirm tsuki's existence is just to lower the amount of lives you're losing on stealth maps by a tiny bit because her downtime is just godawful

I really think the archetype should focus on what it's name implies, and give them silence with their main attack, it wouldn't even be broken given you're foregoing dps in favor of a sturdier defense and they stop attacking suring their skill anyway

Putting aside the obvious argument that abjurers don't even matter since we have a plethora of options to delete opponents in a matter of seconds so why would you even need them...
Their niche is pretty jank, "Shelter" effect sounds amazing on paper but then you realize it's an additional slot on the map that has to be put alongside units that already have some sort of sustain, or medics at which point... why even bother? I can guarantee that there are close to no situations where you'd need both normal healing AND Shelter, it's exceedingly rare.
The HP threshold is also a very harsh condition, no wonder that NCD removes it with her S2 and Quercus traded some Shelter power for a 70%+ HP threshold that's insanely more useful since it actually makes you able to survive some heavy blows at full health. Hey at least abjurers became a bit better with each addition so there's that. Heck I actually use Quercus decently often, she even carried my butt in H10-3.
Finally, someone acknowledges Tsukinogi's best feature: her third elbow
The only reason I ever thought of for using Tsukinogi was sticking her next to Helagur, and that still didn't sound good enough for me to actually bother doing it. I think they're afraid to make buff supporters at any rarity under 6* actually good. Just look at Windflit.
The only way i see to make abjurers good is to either revert them slightly and let them heal AND DPS during skill or to triple down on the buff nature.
They should be closer to what bard supporters do, they are a "boost area" for your operators. Maybe giving all abjurers skills that proc something on heal, imagine how tsukinogi would be if her healing on-hit applied a short lived shield or made invis enemies take a DOT when revealed, or have her S2 healing give a small DEF bonus -on top of- shelter.
They gotta do more with their "stance switch" between attacking and healing.

I also would like to think that HG didn't purposely make Tsukinogi and more like 'the experimental unit' for a better unit (then again, just like Captain Price once said: "It's not hard to improve on garbage").
S1 Tsukinogi is just copy/pasting Elysium because they can't think of anything at the moment and S2 is seems like an attempt to make her into a temporary Bard.
Tsukinogi's S1 is much stronger though. Elysium's S2 only reveal up to 4 units, that were in his range at the moment of casting. Tsukinogi has way long duration and keeps revealing anything that walks into her range, which makes her amazing on stages with a lot of stealth enemies you want to burst/kill fast.

Can rule out S1's being bad on purpose; that's an artifact from when Hypergriff ripped off Millenium War Aigis to create this game. Also why there was a percent next to the tokens when you potential up an operator for the longest time. Too bad they didn't copy some of the more "satisfying" aspects of the game.
Nah Supah, you forgot 1 thing just like Leizi and Passenger you have to wait for 6 star abjurer to make big money for HG so they have enough funds to put 5 minutes thought for the archetype
Remember that Firewatch was actually nerfed shortly after release? Her 3 bombs at M3 used to be able to hit the same tile, thus stacking her damage to nuke stuff.
Add to that that Czerny was shoved down our throat as the welfare operator in place of the Hibiskus alter we expected and wanted, thus purposefully making him the target of the palyerbase's hated. Gitano? Stuns herself after her skill. The deer? poor girl doesn't even have a nose!
These convincing pieces of evidence leve me no choice but to conclude that Hypergriph do, in fact, hate deer!

I use Frostleaf and Kirara quite often.. Idk maybe not in CC/hardest ex stages but for almost all content it's not hard to use them. Especially in is2 kirara can solo 1 stage and frostleaf can hit air targets+cheap guard.
Kirara at least has the damage, Frostleaf is not good at general content but she's actually decent in IS since relics synergize well with her skill + expanded range. Also, Arene exists as a better option while being equally cheap to raise.

I have a history with Tsukinogi, and it's not a good one. I originally got her when I was pulling for Asbestos, arguably my first major gacha failure. The second time was when I was pulling for Beeswax, another failure. Since then I have seen her as an omen of gacha failure/major spending on my F2P account and I went from ignoring her to actively fearing and hating her.
No amount of booba and maid fetish will make me forgive the amount of pulls I wasted just for her to show up, so I thank you for explaining just how bad Tsukinogi is to the world

The available ops back then that can reveal invisible enemies were Melee operators (I only knew SilverAsh) and some players complained that max risk for that rotation is impossible. I Feel like all abjurer was made bad on purpose for battle and ok for base use. At least for nine-colored and Quercus got a decent base skill. I can't see what module they will end up having or how they will design a 6-star around it.
Nine-Colored Deer and Quercus are actually pretty decent in combat, it’s just that their kits are easily outclassed by others in most scenarios. Quercus is pretty much the weakest SP feeder, especially considering most of the feeders in the game are 5 stars.
