As a player that started around 'Break the Ice' event, it's very intriguing learning what is basically 'the industrial revolution and it's consequences on the human race'' but for Arknights.

Break the Ice is a very Chinese story for lack of a better word. It's not that it could only have been written by Chinese writers, but it makes a lot of sense that it was. There are lots of parallels with the way Chinese history is told.
It goes that the Qing Dynasty's isolationism and complacency led to China's so-called "Century of Humiliation", where it was subjugated by greater colonial powers. Its lands were colonized, its treasures and resources stolen, to say little of the tragedies it suffered during the Second Sino-Japanese war by the hand of an increasingly emboldened Japan.
Break the Ice is basically a do-over of this - what if the people in-charge of Kjerag were had the foresight that China's imperial court did not? Kjerag had to arm itself, or it would be helpless against any aggression. It had to break tradition to preserve tradition.

@@foursix32As a history buff, I also see Kjerag is parallel to China in the past and Silverash's motivation is to avoid the mistakes of the past. Even in the story, the status quo had changed to what had Silverash want and steer clear (I don't even know what did the Doctor was doing the tbh I just focus on the Silverash side story).
Also, Pramanix side story is also cool where traditions need to be broken to avoid stagnation but also sided that tradition do have their place in advancing societies.

This was the biggest drama that has happened in the entire arknights history, glad that it has been resolved and is now in a healthy state.
I wouldnt say its the only drama, but its certainly the biggest concerning only the game itself.

@@pawdaypay yeah it's truly tough as I have never been able to clear the 4th floor and time-consumed farming for module upgrade mats. However, this mode is a new one, I believe they testing it and improve or find new gamemode that suits the players' demand. Just like how they first introduced IS1 mode in CN and EN, then they did a survey asking about IS mode, players highly enjoy it so they made it permanent.

That's why they have a qualit6 control team but apparently none of them looked at Ch'en before sending it live.
You know, I really do think Female Tourist C should've been the playable Holungday limited operator, not this Chalter lady. This drama is entirely avoidable if only Hypergryph released her instead! 😤

Man, I do remember when that whole thing went down. I don't speak CN, so the full extent of the drama was unknown to me at the time. But *man* people were kicking up s**t left right and center. Hell, I remember some EN players calling the CN players entitled for all their whining.

When the drama was happening I think I thought they were just whining manchilds (or menchildren..? Idk the plural form) but at the time i was pretty new to the game and community and had only began playing like 1-2 months before the drama. Now in retrospective i think the cause was right but as usual with dramas there are always the stupid people who complain for dumb reasons and make the others who complained reasonably seem dumb

Yeah. Probably they only saw the surface. Community in CN does tend to be dramaqueen but I was curious and looked into it deeper and I found that their points were actually sensible. I kept telling left and right in AK fb group that CN community were right this time, even if I still thought that they still went overboard at the time.
I just want to say that my wife drew that art at 2:38 and an Arknights retrospective video was the last place I ever expected to see it in.

Beside, Alt Ch'en is overpowered and have unintelligible design and class, she practiced Chi-Xiao for over 10 years for one reason is to killing Tallulah and become a sniper just because she pick-up a water gun with engines ? Lucky that HG and Hai Mao have control after short time.
If you read the Dossoles Holiday lore correctly, Chen goes to Dossoles as a representative of Wei Yenwu (albeit unwillingly) at the request of her aunt (Lady Fumizuki).

I still don't understand the bs OP water gun complain. Like I agree with their greediness and lazy design of the banner, but the water gun thing is weird. Like people were mad, saying that water gun is stronger than Chi Xiao in lore but just because it's broken in gameplay doesn't mean it's also OP in lore. Like do they not know Skadi and Mostima were or even still considered the worst 6* because of their kit meanwhile they are really strong in lore? But I got to admit, it's a shame that Chen's Alter is not her timeskip more improved version with her Chi Xiao. Inb4 Double Alter for a character comes, (just like FGO) ooh boy I'm gonna eat popcorn and watch the chaos unfolds

It's the fact that chalter as a limited op doesn't show character progression, rather it's just chen on a vacation wearing a swimsuit then made to be limited with busted dmg.

Reminder: W and Rosmontis were limited operators but nowadays besides Sui, most "new" ops are limited alters with that future feeling that Siege might get a limited alter in the main story.

I think Texas is the only one thats relatively good normally... I like the newer Alters like Specter or Gavial. They might be "cash grabs" but I like the story implications and other then Chen alter all the reimagining of the character is fun.

@@kyarumomochi5146 The only miss they've had as of late is Stainless. Breaks their trend of having 1 or 2 mid-bad meta units between each limited banner. Excluding 5 stars, they haven't had a good unit since Cantabile .

They say people speak the most at length regarding the things they care about, so it would make sense that those most invested (not necessarily monetarily) would make their opinions known regarding Community issues.
In a perfect world we wouldn't have to, but not everything is always sugar and rainbows. That being said, I approach things with an open mind and open heart, and genuinely hope that Arknights and its Community have a healthy future ahead.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to like Chen the Holungday. The E2 art is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of jiggle physics most of the art will go over a typical player's head. There's also Chen's water gun, which is deftly woven into her characterisation - her personal philosophy draws heavily from doujinshi literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of this art, to realize that it's not just funny- it says something deep about BALANS. As a consequence people who dislike Chen the Holungday truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the skill in Chen's Skill 3 "Holiday Storm" which itself is a cryptic reference to Sharknado 3. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Lowlight's genius unfolds itself on their smartphone screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Chen the Holungday tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 Skill 3 activation IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Man I love the Arknights devs and community. While HG has tried some very oof things in the past, I've gotta hand it to them, they are at least trying their best now. They actually listen to the players unlike a lot of devs for games like this nowadays, and the fact that they still make millions just goes to show that actually making your game good is way more profitable than making it a cashgrab. I also have to hand it to this community, it is quite honestly one of the most wholesome and kickass communities I've ever seen and I'm proud to be a part of it. I had a few people willing to help me along when I first started playing, and in general people from the community tend to be really nice. And I'm sure as hell joining them in not letting this game go to shit, because it would be such a shame to see a game as fantastic as this get worse at all

@azukiandkoro2417 if you save, you can actually get your hands on limited operators pretty easily. I'd know, I've done it several times now. They space em out enough that you can, so long as you don't spend on any other banners. Also, maybe go do a bit of research before you tell me they didn't listen, because they did. With Ch'en's alter, the community wasn't happy with her original artwork - so they changed it. They stabilized the limited releases, because that's what people demanded. There's some other things as well, I remember the community collectively came up with 20 demands that they wanted to be met before any players would return and HG agreed to and implemented 18 of them. I'd have to find the list again to remember the specifics though

I feel like something that wasn't mentioned is how the summer banner has now basically become global servers' Anniversary Banner since we're about half a year behind CN. They're not just doing summer limiteds to make more money, they're using them to create an anniversary limited banner for Global so we don't have to do --as much-- schedule bending. Once people realized this was the case for Chalter, a lot of people became more okay with the summer limited banners.
That really doesn't make it okay though.

Without limited banners, the investors will push the game to be more predatory. At least the predictable profit spikes during anniversary and half anniversary will look good on financial reports and events outside of the game can be translated as growth.
Limited banners are a necessary evil to keep the investors happy.
Limited banners every 3-4 months is fine. Unlike FGO every 2 weeks is a new limited banner or a limited banner rerun

As an old veteran day-1 player, one of THE MOST HIGHLY ANTICIPATED & APPRECIATED update to ever grace Arknights was the Daily & Weekly COLLECT ALL button and the SKIP BATTLE ticket for Annihilations.
Seriously, those 2 pretty much overshadowed most of the new contents that came out during that time 😂.
Back then, not only was Arknights grindy, it was also time-consuming for a mobile game 😂.
Its been a year since I first heard the word "Holungday". Got flashbanged so hard it took me an entire year to realize its a stupid pun of holiday + lung.

Ling can borderline solo most of the game with very little issue
@@ketrosteen6973 not really, no. In a weird way.
Ling is extremely powerful, and has solod most of the game.
However, soloing the game isn't the best measure of a operators ability. Magalan and scene are good operators, but they aren't overpowered, and yet they are used in a massive number of solo and low operator clears.
When integrating ling into a squad, she can bring quite a bit of tankyness and damage to bear, but she gobbles up your DP and deployment slots to do so, keeping the game fairly strategical.
In comparison, when interegrating chalts into a squad, she eats up 34DP once and proceeds to kill everything, slow down everything she hasnt killed yet, and lowers there defense so everyone else can kill them better, with the timing on her skill being almost nonexistent due to it being ammo based. It's even worse than surtr, as theres no helidropping into hot spots, you can only plop her down, wait about 20 seconds, and let her go kill stuff.
For other "overpowered" options, i know of omertosa and nealter.
Omertosa is a fast redeploy who does powerful burst damage and/or strong sustain damage for a short amount of time. Shes strong, but typically needs constant redeploying to be strong, and a but like ling, whilst she might be able to kill stuff really well, you still have to have some level of strategy around her use, much like with any other fast redeploy.
Then nearlter isn't even that amazing. She isn't bad, not by a long shot, but her biggest selling point is just true damage, and thats only so useful, and shes a dreadnought guard, which is the 2nd or 3rd worse archetype in the game, (losing only to abjurer supporters like tsukinogi and maybe AoE casters, depending on your point of view) so despite having incredible skills, the effectiveness isn't all that high.
So yeah chalter most broken, she does way too much damage amd is way too braindead, other alters are extremely powerful, but aren't anywhere near as far outside reasonable levels for how braindead they are as chalter.
Well, I don't think Surtr, Chalter or Nearl can do solo R18. Ling can. And it's not even that hard.
What Ling has is flexibility with deploying her Block 4 centurion guards with occasional arts damage wherever she pleases, be it in or outside her range.
I agree that Chalter and Surtr are broken and brain-dead, but Ling is even more broken in my book. She just needs a little bit more effort.
I actually bought the first artbook second hand cuz I wanted the novelty of owning the faulty first print. Cost me twice as much but I’m happy cuz of the Planter Amiya acrylic standee. Now waiting for the rework to get sent out

Ch'en Holungday Ingame : *DESTROY ENTIRE DPS ROOSTER* WITH versatile utility (has Slow & flat -DEF reduction capability on S3 despite she don't have "Debuff & Slow" tag FSR?) with zero drawback (Her SP is Super cheap & DP is no longer issue bcs we have 3 flagbearer and cantabile anyway).

#1 Chen Alter's original art really isn't as bad as many people make it out to be when you consider the shit that exists that is SilverAsh's E2, Tsukinogi's cross eyes, and whatever the fuck Firewatch's 2nd skin is.
#2 Chen Alter's power is far less offensive than Surtr. Surtr's sheer destructive power is due to her invincibility than her innate damage output. Chen is no only not invincible, she costs a fuckton DP more, and needs more charging time than Surtr. There's a reason you see Surtr more than Chen for boss clears and it's because Chen doesn't survive as often. Is Chen still stupidly strong? Yes, but that's a consequence of being made as a 6* into the Spreadshooter subclass.
#3 CN is known to blow shit out of proportion as are many of the EN content creators that follow CN.
Now does that mean the whole thing isn't a problem? No, not at all. Chen's power creep was just a continuation of high powered units that overshadow that older operators that came before. Yet you don't see people complaining about Mlynar or Horn or Texas or Reed when these operators are insanely strong DPS-wise and utility-wise. All the CN community did was just made a shitshow. Lowlight's "response" completely ignored all the ideas that could not be accommodated for (eg: the spark cost from 300 to 120) and instead, still did whatever he wanted.
I'm saying this as a dude who works in R&D for a few software companies and usually, they all have planned features are planned months to a year in advance. Modules and such being the way they are, were extremely likely to already be F2P in nature if Arknight's existing history up to that point is anything to go by. The CN community, and I argue EN especially on Reddit, loves to take credit whenever possible as a means of cope.
1# As explained in the video, the artwork fix was likely an attempt to calm down the masses
2# Surtr is not limited. The problem is that she is a broken LIMITED operator. Surtr being this broken is fine, because you can get her any time, she can appear in shops, and is in the selector.

@@SUPAH_SUPAH_SUPAH To touch on your 2nd point, i think that problem still persists though. Texas alter is really broken and is basically a fast redeployable surtr. Being able to do so much arts damage and be an executor is insane. Her soloing risk 18 of cc 11 is quite impressive. Reed is strong but i don't think she is broken though.

For real why tf did Ling exist, such brainded despite being a summoner and solo-able 90%(if not higher) of the game or Chong Yue having ridiculous burst dmg amplification makes him crack every game mode aside high risk cc.
As an artist I’d take SilverAsh, Tsukinogi (who is absolutely gorgerous! Idk what youre talking about) and Firewatch over Chalter anyday. Working in character concept The way I see it Chalter is just a disastrous lump of cashgrab that look nothing like her and betrayed her whole character building, thats why people got mad. The game is PvE most people wouldnt be mad at powercreep if its keep in check with good mechanics and niches to fill, the real problem is Chalter was a disgrace to Chen, a fan favorite. You didn’t see people malding over NTR or Texalter because while its still powercreep clownery its character building done right.
Now if only the community will ask for guaranteed rate up/spark/anything on the non-limited banners...

Now, I got her from one of my free pulls from the Gavial event, and will promptly refuse to build her.
Coming from someone who owns her and raised her, I see her as a last resort when I’m really out of irl sanity. And I skipped on Surtr entirely. It’s not because they’re gamebreaking, they’re just lazy designs with boring ass gameplay. Honestly don’t even feel like I’m playing when I use them, even though I’m fine with NTR, Ling and Kalsit. Something is just off

Yeah i thought that too. Summer events have now limited banners so that the anniversary event doesn't get delayed and it becomes the autumn celebration event instead, while the summer one becomes the anniversary one. So there should be less **cough** dorothy's vision **cough** delays

I started this game since 1-2 days before chalter came, and i have heard of arknights literally dying too, but i never thought that these two would be connected and chalter would straight up be the character which made the downfall. But anyways, im greatful to see a good game like this survive an apocalypse.
I remember when I heard this happen, I didn't really think much of it since my experience with the game has always been miles better, more so when I found out how the soft pity works.
Basically, anything is better than "that" game.

@@re_incarnation_ might be Genshin, FGO or GBF. I personally think AK is doing well enough in comparison to Genshin or FGO. I just find it crazy how it almost kills the game over decisions in one occasion, it shows how you can't show any mistake at all to others.
While there are things that might go differently if those demands weren't spoken up, Ch'en Alter oopsie was exaggerated, but don't take my opinion to heart since i barely spent any penny on the game.
In another multiverse. There is a Gummy Alter ( Gumter) and she is a 6* caster that throws CAST iron frying pans that does physical damage at enemies and her Skill 3 she throws Heated frying pans that deal arts damage and on every 3rd hit it does true damage and stuns the enemy.

I forgot when i found out about the choo choo stuff but I just only disliked chen alter but never realised it was a cash grab after watching kukkis video. This video made me realise more was going on in the CN server than i realised so thank you for bringing it light especially the abyssal hunter problem.

Alters will never stop. They are money printers. I don't agree with the argument that Alters can portray character development when the original operators themselves can be expanded with additional lore, more skills, and class changes like that of Amiya, but no matter how much I love Arknights, I realise that it's still a scummy gacha game, so Alters will be here to stay. Atleast the community bullied HG so hard that limited 'seasonal costume' operators will never be released again. 'Character Development Alters' are still better than 'Summer Skin Alters'.

I have no qualms about the limited system so long as the characters are available again the future,which includes the Rainbow Six team.

As well as the co-op mode,the original IS,all the other small little non-story centric events,those were all good.
The R6 collab is at least understandable, since it's a, well, collab. HG can't just easily re-run it themself when they want to.

With Ch'en, for me the problem was how unrelated Ch'alter is with the previous alter, which is Skalter. You see the first time they release an "alter" character with the idea of "what if Skadi fully ended up as a seaborn" ofc I automatically thought "Oh so this alter is a What If scenario or the past/future experience of an operator or when they're in their prime", just like how Shining uses her sword again or Saria without her shield. So ofc I expected Ch'alter would be related to that thought process and then bam! Beach skin. As a character. When I see it I thought HG gonna go full Blue Archive route with their alter.
To be fair Skalter is the exception to the Alter route. Every other alter, without exception, is a progression of a previously established character. Lava and Kroos did grow up, Nearl did return to Kazimierz to fight in the Major, Gavial and Ch'en did change their views on how they should proceed with whatever is on their mind (now of course each alter was executed with different amounts of narrative success).
Skalter is the only character that is essentially a hypothetical scenario lore wise.
They absolutely could and should do more "what if" characters, like just put a Frostnova if she went to Rhodes Island, it's cool and basically prints money.
I fucking knew it. I am only played around 4 months, and the moment I saw swimsuit chen, it feels wrong, and I knew that HG had an oopsie with that "Creature".
Aside from the drama that happened, I just gotta say that this lad is bringing in some great content. This is really enjoyable to see, keep up the good work boss!

But, lets be honest
We all play the Squad game. Putting many ops on a team to clear maps.
Some with niche (Artist, Class, Particular character trait etc)
Some with Canon backing (Faction Teams)
Some is just wack and personal (like me, trying to build Pozy, Hellagur, and Tachanka for a 3 Ursus Musketeer play)
So.. in hindsight, broken ops is broken. But only so much. Ling solo clear? On a map without aerial enemies, yes. Otherwise, no.
Ch'alter solo? In a map where the Rush basically didnt exist, yes. Otherwise, bring your Myrtle and work her ass off.
Also, lets be Honest. An Operator can be called broken if it can *solo Essence of Evolution bossfight.*

Mlynar Pozy Texas alter and many others replacing old operators and new events with borderline insane Stat/dps checks (just like fire under the sand) poses a scary looking future for the game

Actually, there is a Gummy daki. But it is one of those horny ones. Gummy is in underwear on one of the sides, so I was not sure if I could put it in the video.
I stopped playing at twilight of wolumonde and just came back this week. There is soo much new content and changes that I feel are big improvements from before when I last played

I started playing a little before the Chalter event and got her on my first 10 roll that wasn’t from the starter banner. Probably wouldn’t have continued playing if I didn’t get her cause Dossoles was a fun event for me, and Ch’en became an instant favorite of mine.
It took me until Near Light to start watching ak content to realize that there was so much drama around her.

One of the most notable rumors fron the Chalter controversy is that Chalter's kit should've been Mizuki's... which make sense mechanically and aesthetically.
It also continues the the limited banner tradition of placing a broken unit alongside the limited character.

I think there was a possibility that we might confused between alter and limited for some reason. The one that I'm Anticipated that is not guarantee in the future is operator adjustment that would not really change the operator rather improve it. Seeing Arknights CN right now I don't think that's the case due to new Game modes implemented, skins, events and new operator and new archetype maybe I'm just expecting big changes next year anniversary. Before they Release skins make sure they give other operator that don't have first mine I'm expecting Mousse to have one.

I find myself bored by the Abyssal Hunter events (story-wise since gameplay wise they infuriate me), but i'd love to see a video on that topic of their being too many events for them.
I first played during dossoles so didnt know all these...got chalter as my 1st 6 star on the first few mins playing and she helped carry story till ep.7 where i started strategizing and thinking.

For me i also belive they where trying to make the summer a limited event to correct the EN server cronogram since now all the summer events are our anniversary events and not have too heavily modify the order like they did on the first year

CNY celebration banner becomes Half Year anniversary for Global
Summer Celebration becomes Anniversary celebration for Global
CN Anniversary becomes "Special celebration event" (like CN summer event) for Global
this kinda means that global server will never catch up to CN so the copium dies with this timeline
Also, CN Half-Year Anniversary becomes Golden Week celebration for Global.

I was on the bandwagon for this especially for IS re-release. The limited releases is indeed milking quite badly if the guy like MAJIHORSE who e6'd max level all operators every release had enough of it.
However, Genshin Drama comes right after in droves and made me rethink if we were eating good all these time. Except the artbook, holy sh-t that was botched.
On a side artistic note, SilverAsh's jawline needs a bit fixed because its sinking into his neck during release and azLing better fix Inam's face for making her eat her own nose. I had once consulted a professional about Utage's art and while he said indeed there were some glaring mistakes, it was not worth an outrage for. Which is what I gladly take since they guy made Seien Natsuki and Utage's Summer Skin.

All this drama just makes Summer Ch’en the most SOUL character in the entire game. I pretty much bring her to almost every stage even when I don’t need her. Hopefully the next summer limited HG reveals in half a year will be just a good as Ch’en.
