Families are coming back together: the babysitters today are grandparents, more than they were when we were born post-war. That’s a good thing, not just cocooning.

@@dasse8717 I'm sorry if that's what it is, to the extent that it is. In January of 1980, I reported aboard MCRD San Diego for Marine Corp boot camp. Within the brief moments it took to find a place on the famed Yellow Footprints, my curiosity was satisfied. During the following three months, my perseverance was tested. At the end of the ordeal, my gratitude was both justified and overwhelming. I earned a title that will live far beyond me. Technically, we SHOULD be in an ice age right now based on the historical cycles. Humans, however, have been altering the climate all the way back to the beginning of agriculture and that has helped us stave off the ice age. We really only discovered global warming BECAUSE we knew we should be seeing the cooling but weren't, and science went looking. That being said, the massive greenhouse gas additions since the industrial revolution have definitely pushed things too far, too fast, for the Earth to respond effectively and we should definitely be taking steps to resolve things.

That’s interesting what you mentioned about the Boy Scouts peaking in 1973. About two or three years after that (1975 or 1976), I wanted to join the Boy Scouts. However, I couldn’t join because I was profoundly Deaf and was asked (more accurately, told) not to join. So I grew up never having the benefit of experiencing scouting.
British Bull Dog, Capture the Flag, Red Rover Red Rover were all in the New Games book. Our church youth group played these games when we met at parks or a member's house. Yes! Collar bones were broken, bruises were received, etc.
Yes, the reason Californians say, “Have a nice day,” is culturally caused by how recently we were all armed in the Wild West. New Yorkers like my retail employee in California said, “What’s the matter can’t you read?” to a customer who brought a beverage into our electronics store. That was 1983, and it still doesn’t go over well in California.
I feel like I owe nothing but suspicion to the American government and I don't feel proud to be American because "American" can mean so many different negative things and "American" can represent so many different negative things. Add to that the corrupt two-party system and American mock elections, and I feel worse about the country overall but this doesn't mean I necessarily want to leave America right now, like most Conservatives would want me to, but it does mean that another country can end up better than the U.S. With all this corruption here it won't be so hard. I think a lot of these "patriot" Conservatives live in their own fantasy land and ignore anything uncomfortable about America unless they want to attack criticism instead of thinking deeply about it.
American can also mean many positive things. Are you living in a fantasy? Nothing, nowhere or anyone is perfect. The universe will never allow perfection. If you can't feel pride, happiness, gratitude, etc about positive things then you will have a horrible drab life. You aren't perfect neither are the people in your life.
