I met Ronald Reagan in New Orleans at a luncheon. The Secret Service emptied my purse and we got in line to meet him. I told him I was concerned bc he sounded like he had the sniffles. (Yes, I really said that) He said he had come from North Carolina and it was allergies. 3 times the photographer said Mr. President, we need to take the picture. We continued to talk. He had a glow about him. It was amazing. Like angels were there. My husband said nothing. Poor guy. Reagan put his arm around my waist and the photo was taken. When we left the hotel and we were walking to our car, his car was going down the street a short distance from us. He spotted us and waved. We waved back like old friends. It was like magic. I will never forget how wonderful a person he was.
Great memories. Thanks 🙏 for telling. I saw him at the North Texas food bank in south Dallas. Red Bird industrial area. It was noon, on South Cockrell Hill rd. I lived in Cockrell Hill about 6 miles north towards Dallas. I hardly ever went to lunch, that day we had no idea he was here. Heading to Burger King with my best still machinist buddy. We stopped, hardly anyone was there. I yelled out, welcome 🙏 to Dallas Mr. PRESIDENT Ronald…… he turned around, to my amazement !!! He said everyone LOVES Texas !!! He was the absolute best person ever !! Humble and kind !! Tough but smart. He has the bruises to show. I remember the secret service was everywhere. Y’all do know what Dallas do to president’s. I was 6 miles away in second grade L.O. Donald elementary school. I have no memory about that weird awful day. I remember the funeral on our black and white tv. God BLESS ALL our great President’s. You honor the office…. Not the man or woman !! See… I’m not sexist !! lol. I’m a 1955 Gladewater Tx. Lake O’ the Pines baby boomer !! God Blessed our terrific UNITED STATES 🇺🇸 !! Thanks 🙏
I was a kid in the 80s and it was the only decade I’ve lived where things felt so wholesome and good. That there was a clear line between good guys and bad guys, I felt, and we were the good guys. Reagan was a big part of how proud I was. He was a good man, funny, very personable, and somebody I really looked up to as a leader. What a wonderful man he was, I really miss that 80s feeling.
“Cocaine is fun…. Then it’s fun with problems… then it’s just a bunch of problems. That’s the way it is with any addiction.” Thank you Dennis and Mike for this amazing interview.
I met someone at a party and she was being extra nice to me and I wasn't sure why, then she offered me some cocaine, then it all became clear. She was a pusher! Did need the coke for clarity, thank goodness.
My Dad passed away in 2021, born in 1927. Worked for General Electric for 33 years. I worked for that company 3 years, with my dad, until they closed the plant down in San Leandro, Ca. But all this talk about Ronald Reagan and GE, before my dad passed, we spent lots of time together, and he told me about a meeting that he attended, and Ronald Reagan was there. He met Ronald Reagan. Pretty cool. Dennis shares some details about how Ronald Reagan, being the Spokesperson for General Electric, actually wanted to go and tour the GE facilities and meet the employees of the company. That confirms what My dad told me, thank you so much for sharing that. 41 minutes and 50 seconds into your podcast is when Dennis talks about that. Thank you again.
My grandmother after a very difficult time during the depression, they finally had enough money to buy a refrigerator. It was a GE Delux. That was 1940. My grandmother took care of the frig until the mid 90's and could not live in the house alone anymore. I got the frig and we still use it daily. It's a backup, but I am in it several times a day. The frig has never had any service, we just defrost it and clean it once a month or so and now it's 84 years old. It's amazing. Buy American.
I saw a Reagan biopic and they gave his speeches at GE facilities much credit for his presidency. By meeting and talking with working folks like your dad all across the country he learned what they cared about and how to reach them. They said he honed what would become his presidential stump speeches during that time becoming The Great Communicator.
I met Reagan when I was 17 before he announced he was running for Prez in Minden LA lions club …. I served him a chicken dinner… I thought he was amazing
One of my favorite books is about a man who dreams that he goes to visit Heaven, and every room has pictures of the people whose lives were touched, made better by the person now in heaven. I know Ronald Reagan's walls are completely covered after reading these comments. Thank you.
I’m one of those 30 year olds that grew up on the parent trap with my siblings. Me and my beautiful wife watched it for the first time in our adult lives with our little ones and it brought back a lot of great memories from growing up and to our amazement it completely captured the attention of our kids in a way modern bullcrap just doesn’t. Thank you Mr Quaid for quality entertainment for my wife, my kids and I!
What a great conversation between two bros. You can tell both Dennis and Mike were having fun because of the humour. Dennis seems very down to earth and humble, unlike many other spoiled actors.
Raised in a home full of females (3 other sisters + mom) - always wished to have a brother early on in life to balance things out with some GOOD male energy...It is such a joy to watch real rugged creative men having an authentic chat about what really matters to them in life....From gruesome farm animal castrations....to High School mentors....to living 3 miles up from Gordo in the "Right Stuff"....to Reagan's phenomenal presidential reign! Daamn - GREAT authentic interview - many thanks for the GOOD male energy boost for the day!

Thank you for a great interview with three truly great guys! And, I'm so glad that Mr. Quaid set the record straight about Gus Grissom. The Right Stuff is one of my all-time favorite movies, but it's so sad that Gus Grissom was thrown under the bus for the sake of a plotline.
Every time I see that part of the film I just cringe. Especially the emotional crying breakdown with Betty in the motel room. Having seen plenty about the real Gus, I know that wasn't that man at all. It's kind of like the bits in "Apollo 13" where Fred Haise snipes at Jack Swigert and they start yelling at each other when you know from Lovell's own account that nothing like that ever happened. I just think it's disrespectful to those men to portray them like that. Sometimes Hollywood needs to be secure enough with the truth to know there's plenty of real drama there.
@@Russell_Huston Indeed!!! It's seems to me a terrible disregard of the truth and disservice to the actual man being smeared. And yes, some of the Apollo 13 scenes definitely take liberties- I've heard recordings of their conversations at that time of the supposed spats and there were no temper tantrums or even raised voices. It's sad how often reality isn't exciting enough for film writers, so they embellish the story. Ugh.
@@PreferredMethods Yes. This is what Hollywood wants us to believe heroes look like. It would be one thing if the extensive documentation of these astronauts and their missions evinced otherwise, but they don't. I am so impressed with Dennis telling the true story of that depiction of Gus Grissom in "The Right Stuff". I love that movie but have always hated the mythical slanted betrayal of Gus that was portrayed. Thank you Dennis. You are a man of integrity!. (Edit for typo)
Ronald Reagan was the first President I voted for in my first election in 1980. I served under him for 6 years. He brought hope to the country and respect to the military. I loved listening to him address Americans! My mother, caister, brother hated him but didn't have clear reasons other than propaganda!
What was so commendable about Reagan was his deep hatred for Communism but his even deeper love for America, its gvt and Freedom. Although he was against Communism, whenever anyone tried to stop Communists from speaking at the Union meetings, Reagan would stop the meeting and allow them to speak in an orderly fashion. He would repeatedly stress he did not agree with them but this is America and he would die for their right to speak. His speeches from the meetings are on RUclips. Reagan was an excellent Pres and a great man.
During one of Reagan’s earliest press conferences, Sam Donaldson asked him was he also felt responsible for the current economic crisis? Reagan stated yes because he was once a democrat.
What an amazing interview! Some people when you meet the person behind the ______ (actor, singer, writer, whatever) they can't help but disappoint, as they can't live up to what you may have imagined. Dennis Quaid is the opposite - so much more impressive on many levels than what I would have imagined of a "veteran actor". Can't WAIT to see him in theaters with Reagan.
Omg. This interview is the perfect interview for me. I never imagined Dennis Quaid having my exact interests. Mind blown. I knew everything he said, but I never imagined his pretty face having my exact interests. I had no idea as an American teenager going to East German with my exchange student gymnasium class that the “tear down that wall speech had even happened, but I’m glad that Dennis represented Reagan well

I was happy to hear Dennis say that he learned a lot while he was mentoring some people. I was an instructor in the USAF. I learned more as an instructor than I did as a student and on the job training. I wanted to go back to being a technician after being an instructor but the USAF didn't see it that way so I left the USAF after 10 years.
I've been on a Dennis Quaid movie streak. Blue miracle, the hill, I can only imagine, the long game, all in the last week. He is such an amazing talent. He plays a bad guy so damn well!
Speaking of the disparity between the Soviets and us, the thing that really brought it home for me was watching a documentary about a Typhoon submarine that was filmed in Russia. The captain of this largest nuclear sub in the world was shown returning home to his tiny apartment with a steel door in a slum high rise. That same captain of any American sub would easily have a large home on an acre or more. I was in the Navy from 82 to 88, so I remember Reagan well. I remember I was on a road trip from Florida to Virginia when he gave the speech after the Challenger disaster. I was balling my eyes out. We all know that nobody writes their own speeches, but at least his presentation of the speech was incredible and heartfelt.
Hearing Reagan speak after the Challenger tragedy was incredibly emotional. I was pregnant with our first child, had a check-up and went to my parents’ home, empty house, made a pot of tea, put the television on to watch the launch live. Heartbreaking. Reagan was superb; he, Thatcher and The Queen. Incredible. 🇬🇧🇺🇸❤️
Dennis Quaid is legend! So many movies, all great roles. No disrespect to Mr. Kilmer, but Mr. Quaid's portrayal of Doc Holiday in Wyatt Earp was my favorite. Much closer to what history says the actual man was like. Can't wait to see Reagan, and I can't believe while I type this comment I am listening to a conversation about castration. 🤪
Ohh man, he definitely was a great Doc but I don’t know, Val Kilmer was unreal, I haven’t stopped quoting him in that role since the day it came out! Ironically, just got a T-shirt yesterday with his face on it that says “I’m in my prime”. The wifi in my home is “Huckleberry”. I love “Wyatt, you’re an oak”. He was amazing, I was a teenager when it came out, loved it the first time and the 100th time as an older man. I’m embarrassed to say that I don’t know which was more accurate to the real man, and agree 100% that Dennis was a great Doc, but Val Kilmer is one of the few movie characters that really amazed me and still does if I watch Tombstone today!! The other actors were not all that bad either! Both movies were unreal, odd they were both put out that close to one another…
Me Too!!!!! No, I haven’t been abused at work, I’m doing this thing called ‘agreeing’ I remember that I knew nothing about any of the candidates, butt gosh darn it! I’m legal age to vote, I’m going to VOTE!!!!! It’s been rather depressing in recent elections, wish I could go back to knowing nothing about any of these jerks, makes voting much MUCH easier!!!!!
Mike, consider doing an episode with Spenser of SBMowing. A RUclips sensation who is a hard working kid who mows lawns for free, prettying up neighborhoods and helping those who can’t do their own lawns. Bonus-he is a barbershop guy and a crazy fine singer.
One of the good guys in Hollywood. Always loved his work. My Mother, for some reason, loved Enemy Mine. We would always day Dargggwich... when ever the slightest reference came up. A fond memory... obscure as it may be. Just watched The Right Stuff... again....a few months ago. Classic 80s movie. So much good work from Dennis. One of the good guys.
@@civlwrbuf If that’s the one I think you’re talking about…the one where he is shrunk down and goes inside the body to repair it and ends up inside his girlfriend? That’s one of the few I have seen.
23:50 What blows me away is... The first astronauts whatched like .. a dozen early rocket launches that FAILED! From failure to launch to complete destruction. Then....then...they climbed into one!!!! Just amazing. Balls of absolute steal!!!!
I was stationed at Port Hueneme with the Seabees and I got a chance to work on Reagan’s Ranch. He was not there at the time but he had his dogs and horses roaming around on the property. It is secluded.
Hello Mr. Rowe: Just watched your show with Mr. Quaid. Love him and enjoy your work. I had to tell you this story because my old friends name was Mike Rowe. So I thought. A few years after he passed I was at his retirement home with his grandson. Our understanding had always been his name was Mike. He was known as Big Mike in his circle of co-workers and friends. Well, Adam picks up Big Mikes bullhorn. He used it on building construction jobs in the Boston area. Adam looks at me and says, "I just found out from my mother that Grandpas name was Paul. They called him Big Mic because he was always in the bullhorn on the job site keeping things rolling." BIG MIC. And so the story goes.
Mike, thank you for bringing up mentor in school. Mine was Mr. Edmonson, Burlington high school. He challenge me to excel geometry when I didn’t feel like it. I don’t think he even like me. But he challenged me to do what he knew I was capable of. I am thankful that he did that because he changed my life.
Attending a Business School, Baruch College in New York City that was deeply entrenched in liberalism, entitlement, grants etc. I worked one year prior to to pay for it when I first started to hear what Reagan would say. His speeches. The debates against Jimmy Carter living through an economy that was crushing hopes and dreams. I voted for Reagan twice seeing how he restored my faith and hope of a future for me and those willing to WORK for it. He was and is in my mind the greatest communicator as President and blessed with a common sense a great wife in Nancy who supported his rise, from SAG ,GE pitchman ,other products ,Governor of California and two time President. My favorite President of the 20th century.
#1 the right stuff is one of my favorite movies. #2 I LOVE Dennis Quaid. I saw him many many years ago on a talk show. I was amazed that when he would answer a question, he did not look at the host, he looks at the camera or the audience. I was so impressed by that and he seemed so genuine. Fast forward many years and I was obsessed with the movie, Frequency. It brought be back to a time when I was growing up and my Dad was a firefighter and for some reason I just LOVED that movie. I have had a celebrity crush on him. Can't wait to see Regan!!
Great interview with a actor I have a deep respect for. Thank you for ending on the idea that it is better to do the hard than to choose the easy. So true! Good comes out of doing the right thing even when there’s no one watching.
Excellent podcast. Dennis is captivating. It is his stories and his integrity combined that I could listen to for hours. Thank you for this. I'm planning a Dennis Quaid movie list now 😁

I had a picture of Reagan on the wall by my desk at Bath Iron Works several years ago when I was running the apprenticeship program. I was in the middle of a conversation with another coworker about the "problems" we face in America when an young apprentice pipe design student walked in to ask me a question. She pointed the picture of Reagan and asked, "Whose that?" I said, "The best president in my lifetime, Ronald Reagan. He ended the cold war without firing a shot." I continued, "That's the problem with our country. No fault of yours, but you're only 3 years out of high school and you have no idea who Reagan is, let alone his accomplishments. What has happened to our education system?"
My first Dennis Quaid movie was _Breaking Away._ I've been a fan ever since. _The Right Stuff_ was an awesome movie and, in the DC-Metro area, did very well (though he is correct, the movie was considered a flop). I showed it a LOT. That movie was a whos-who of actors in the '80s. Great interview.
Gus Grissom died with two other people, not three on the Apollo 1 launchpad. Inside the module were Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chafee. Heroes all, remembered forever. 🇺🇸
Brent Spiner, who attended the same high school and UH with the Quaid brothers, also describes the tremendous influence Mr. Pickett had on him becoming an actor.
I served in the U.S. Navy (USS Caron DD 970) during the Reagan administration. We did a lot of spying and had our share of interactions with the Soviet Navy. Morale was high, and we were proud of our country, our service, and our president. When my wife and I saw the movie, I found myself crying several times. It brought back many memories.
Wait, the movie The Right Stuff bombed?!! Not in my family. We told everyone about it and everyone in town was crazy about it but again we lived in Tullahoma Tennessee, which is where the largest wind tunnel in the world is and we tested everything for the space program so in a town that was 80% engineers I guess we Appreciated how wonderful the movie was

President Trump speaks from the heart
Both movies were unreal, odd they were both put out that close to one another…
Ronald Reagan was the first Presidential vote I was able to cast, as well as being my first Commander-in-Chief.
Me Too!!!!!
No, I haven’t been abused at work, I’m doing this thing called ‘agreeing’
I remember that I knew nothing about any of the candidates, butt gosh darn it! I’m legal age to vote, I’m going to VOTE!!!!!
It’s been rather depressing in recent elections, wish I could go back to knowing nothing about any of these jerks, makes voting much MUCH easier!!!!!
@@jeffffro7674well clearly you don’t actually know anything about current candidates cause it should be easy still.
@@70eightRPM not a troll at all just speaking facts.
@@Thumper68Name three good things Biden has done for Americans without mentioning Trump?I'll give you a hint: THERE ARE NONE.

This “podcast” is better than anything I’ve seen on TV since dirty jobs probably
Great Podcast Mike Rowe..
Dennis Quaid is a Great Actor and Good Human being 🙏✌️✊️
Another great interview. Mike you’re a class act. looking forward to Regan .
Mike, consider doing an episode with Spenser of SBMowing. A RUclips sensation who is a hard working kid who mows lawns for free, prettying up neighborhoods and helping those who can’t do their own lawns. Bonus-he is a barbershop guy and a crazy fine singer.
He was the first presidential candidate that I voted for, everyone else that came after him I held my nose and voted for the party.
I still watch the The Right Stuff pretty frequently. It was one of those movies I remember owning as a kid when It was available on VHS.
Wonderful show!. Have always loved Dennis, even more now.
I haven’t seen a whole lot of Dennis Quaid movies, but loved the few I saw. 😁
I've always l loved Innerspace, an underrated sci fi movie
@@civlwrbuf If that’s the one I think you’re talking about…the one where he is shrunk down and goes inside the body to repair it and ends up inside his girlfriend? That’s one of the few I have seen.
Frequency...
@@asphaltcowboy7567 I know Jim Cavizel doesn't get alot of love right now, and he was great in Person of Interest, he and DQ were a good pairing.
DENNIS IS A REAL AMERICAN PATRIOT! THANKS BOYS!

Absolutely fantastic entertaining interview!!! You're both great guys!!!
Thanks !!!🎉
23:50 What blows me away is... The first astronauts whatched like .. a dozen early rocket launches that FAILED! From failure to launch to complete destruction. Then....then...they climbed into one!!!! Just amazing. Balls of absolute steal!!!!
I was stationed at Port Hueneme with the Seabees and I got a chance to work on Reagan’s Ranch. He was not there at the time but he had his dogs and horses roaming around on the property. It is secluded.
Hello Mr. Rowe:
Just watched your show with Mr.
Love this interview and Dennis needs to do a Joe Rogan podcast. He's a treat to hear from. Love Dennis Quaid and Mike Rowe. Two great guys
Oh yes I agree dennis on Joe Rogan
Fantastic idea! This one flew by, it was so enjoyable. I would definitely watch a few hours with Joe.
Ur wishes were granted
Loved this, really excited to see Dennis in the Reagan movie. Thank you both!
I love Dennis Quaid. I think first time I saw him was in The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia.
Great podcast.
Served US NAVY CORPSMAN 1981-1986 sober 3 Oct 1984 served under REAGAN
Thank you so much. I'm so glad you got to serve under Commander in Chief Reagan. We felt really safe then.
'84-'90 USMC.
Definitely my C-in-C
My husband and I have a king sized bed. Two twins one king sheet. So comfy. We’re like the Reagans.
This was the best hour and fifteen minutes I've spent on a Friday night lately. Thank you, gentlemen!
Excellent podcast. Dennis is captivating. It is his stories and his integrity combined that I could listen to for hours.
Thank you for this. I'm planning a Dennis Quaid movie list now 😁
Mr.Mike, you are the man! I remember your 'Dirty Jobs' series. The Gooey ducks episode we laughed until we cried😅
You were a trooper- so hilarious!
Thank you for the comedy gold!
Thank U both for a great interview, conversation and for us just to be there sitting quietly and listening in the same room sipping our coffee. I was listening to you and walking around and doing my own minutiae of activity and finally was drawn in to sit and just relax and enjoy the conversation and back-then evaluations and today's insight ...NM
I absolutely love this interview.
I am glad for the combination of Dennis Quaid and Mike Rowe. This is healthy and holy and useful. ❤
My favorite movies of his is inner space and the rookie
Inner space is one of my all time favorites reminds of my younger years and I love Frequency I thought he did a great job in it
My first Dennis Quaid movie was _Breaking Away._ I've been a fan ever since. _The Right Stuff_ was an awesome movie and, in the DC-Metro area, did very well (though he is correct, the movie was considered a flop). I showed it a LOT. That movie was a whos-who of actors in the '80s.
Great interview.
That was mine too!!!
You two are real men🇺🇸💙🇺🇸💙
Legends talking about another Legend 👏👏
edit : well i posted the comment before i finished watching not knowing theres gonna be that song at the end 😂
Coca Cola ad with “Mean” Joe Green. Iconic.
Coca-Cola with Santa Claus. That's the origin of modern Santa.
That was awesome to listen to. Thank you Mike and Dennis
To my great shame, I have never seen “The Right Stuff”.
You can bet after seeing this episode, I’m watching it this weekend.
Same!
Enjoy! Very entertaining!
What a total blast! Dennis Quaid and Mike Rowe!😂
We enjoy your work, Mr. Quaid. For reasons unknown, I've recently shown my kids "Vantage Point".
I saw Reagan today-very good- I like the way it was presented. I will purchased a copy when available.
History for this generation. Thank you.
Mike you are amazing
"Cocaine was wonderful." - Dennis Quaid.
That actually made me laugh out loud. Much needed after a long week. Thanks, guys!
LOVE MIKE ROWE, AND RANDY WHAT A GREAT INTERVIEW! So happy we can watch now and not just listen to it !!!
What an amazing collection of work Dennis has given us over his most stellar career.
Listened intently to the whole show, really good stuff. Thank you so much, I really enjoyed that.
We need a Ronald Reagan today. A great communicator.
Bravo gentlemen. Thank you. ~Doc Phil
Undercover Blues great underrated Dennis Quad movie.
Undercover Blues is one of my favorites of his movies! I would love to see it again.
Mortey 😂 best part of the movie
Loved
"A Dog's Purpose", by the way.
Thank you.
Great podcast. Enjoyed that so much.
The Republic F105 Thunderchief, Wild Weasel. I had to look it up.
Wow! Two of my favorite men! ❤️
Wait, the movie The Right Stuff bombed?!! Not in my family. We told everyone about it and everyone in town was crazy about it but again we lived in Tullahoma Tennessee, which is where the largest wind tunnel in the world is and we tested everything for the space program so in a town that was 80% engineers I guess we Appreciated how wonderful the movie was
Alien Mine my favorite Dennis Quaid movie.
Enemy Mine was the name of movie with Louis Gossett, Jr. as the alien.
Yes it was I stand corrected.😊
We are a nation just getting started. Yes!
This is not only wonderful, but it's real.

I Know EXACTLY what he means! 😏😁
