Jeff, thanks for pointing out the double separation, both shoulders from hips and hips from knees. It makes a big difference and actually helps a lot with balance. This is also true on the backhand, and especially the serve. Triple separation / triple coil is easier to understand and teach I think than "kinetic chain." Thanks for your recent videos!
Mmm not sure about racket head below the ball. His angle of attack is almost 180 degrees i.e. completely flat on most shots (the exception being low balls, that he is having to get up and over the net). This doesn't mean he isn't hitting the ball with topspin, just the trajectory of the ball is much flatter/less loop over the net. This approach leads to much greater consistency and less margin for error at contact. His grip involuntary fluctuates between weak eastern and semi western. I also agree the shot is quite conventional, he's all arms and legs which makes him look awkward.
Yes hitting straight into the ball is much easier. This along with looking at your target through the net is one of, if not the most, common error I battle on groundstrokes. It's why i'm VERY cautious to ever encourage it. First off it's physically impossible. To hit straight into the ball from the baseline and get it to go over the net (say form about 4' above ground) you would have to hit it over 200mph due to gravity and air resistance. Yes Medvedev's forehand is "flatter" but very important to note that he hits with an upward swing path on every standard ground stroke. There are emergency exceptions where he'll scoop the racquet face or slice over course.
Hey Jeff, love your videos and content. Vic Braden disciple here. What I find to be "unorthodox" about his forehand is that he uses a reset swing and loops the racket higher than most. Wondering your thoughts on the impact of those. Thanks!
Yeah definitely resets both sides. Time would be lost. But he plays so far behind the baseline not sure how it would negatively effect him. Don't even see him really move up on weaker balls. Really just blasts winners from back there. Freak of nature in terms of athleticism and talent.
I don't know if we watched the same match but, to me, Djoko got clearly outplayed. So I have been trying to copy this guy's forehand and you can really hit it hard and the ball will never go out. The top spin is on point on every shot.
kind of odd that you feel so much spin since medvedev hits the flattest shots on tour. But I mean maybe you copied the swing and found your own flair in the stroke... can always happen... I am a junior player and I have used medvedev as a reference for the two hander and I use auger aliassime... I get pretty different results than the type of shots those specific pros hit.
I don't know if you can give Joker an excuse. Sure he had more minutes on court, even a five setter but this is typical of a champions path the title of a major. Rarely do you see someone go through the tourney without losing a set. Joker took the entire month off for crying out loud. And he played Zverev toe to toe looking real fresh and Zverev looked beat up. If Joker was as great as ppl say he is, he would have closed that match in three sets. After all, he is the GOAT isn't he???? I don't think any GOAT would choke like that. I mean to come up so small in the biggest match of his life is humiliating. Not one set??? He was seeded No. 1 and they have the easiest path to the finals. I'm sure every Joker fan will have a long list of excuses but Joker was given every advantage. And I don't even know how anyone can come back from that humiliation. He can't walk down any Serb street without ppl whispering how terrible he played and everyone will console him cos they feel so bad for him. So much pity for the GOAT??? I don't even think he has any plans to play the rest of the year, it's such an titanic embarrassment. Even Medvedev felt so sorry for him and had to remind Joker that he was the GOAT. Haha. What real GOAT needs to be boosted up? Medvedev forehand looks so unorthodox. It's really going back to Borg with the big swing. I've said this before, but he looks like he's trying to serve a forehand, getting a big max swing path to generate power. Unfortunately, this windmill approach will get him bounced off Wimbledon fast. He should consider using a two-handed forehand if he lacks upper body strength to do the ATP forehand. This could make his forehand as deadly as his backhand.
If Daniel were not a pro than what would you have advised him? My point is why are you advising people to follow this FH. This is ecactly not physics. He is damahing his elbow.
Crud sorry only saw the first part of your comment. What part of his swing is hurting his elbow? I would think using momentum instead of prestretch would take a lot of stress off of the elbow.
Ah crud! I forgot his grip! It's bottom of 3. Let's call it weak eastern. Def closer to eastern then semi. What do you think?
Shouldn’t that be extreme or strong Eastern? Weak Eastern is ridge between bevels 2 and 3 (aka Australian).
@@jerome_morrow 🤔 Hmm okay!
Modified Eastern
@@Laminator That’s what I was looking for! Thanks.
Modified eastern is what I think

He still lifts from shoulder as well

His forehand style is semi western with high backswing

those who think its onorthodox dont understand tennis

what a lie that he hits flat balls, I see he has semi western and he hits flat topspin balls

Shorten the swing and take the ball earlier? Same as many.
