Because after several months of training the basic stick techniques we moved on to advanced techniques using the knife, and everything he taught me then usually ended with either stabbing my opponent in the kidneys or slitting his throat. And all this after going to his blindside and basically taking his back while standing. How the hell am I gonna justify that as self defense?
You're correct. Kali, Arnis, Escrima, whatever you call it, its not a self defense system or a martial art. Its a killing art. The defense comes when you've killed or incapacitated your enemy, not when he's still capable of fighting. Unless, of course, if you both call it quits.

Bro that’s not always the best idea. If you told someone to go for the kill shot vs me. Every time they extend their arm to stab me ima cut tf out their arms, and win through 1000 cuts. The goal is to punish aggression. Keep the knife close to ur body. For better leverage, speed and control. So you also don’t get disarmed.
If the dude is 100 feet away from you, he's obviously not an immediate threat to you. can't shoot someone that's 100 feet away from you just because they're holding a damn knife. if you're gonna carry, learn the laws, and learn wtf your doing.
Why is it that in videos of knife contests eg friendly military competition or stress-testing knife techniques, there are are no fancy deflections, arm manipulation, disarms, joint-locks, etc? Knife techniques seem to go out the window & people just start fencing
The best technique I was ever shown for a knife fight was stomp like you're throwing a tantrum, scream with a high pitch ( nnnnnnnnnnooooooo!), then run away like you have flexible leg bones.
The first rule we were given in knife defense class, "You're going to get cut. Just don't get cut in the important places." I ended up with Sharpie all over myself by the end of class. A lot on the important places. What'd I learn? Don't get in a knife fight.
This is what I teach people when I teach about knife defense. If you can't run. Grab their wrist slide down 2cm & hold their hand with all your strength. Then make them extremely uncomfortable to offset their balance. Once you do, pull them down by their hand until it's on the floor step on their wrist as hard as you can & then start throwing punches at their face until they stop moving. That's your only way to make sure they won't get up & use that knife after you start walking away.
I tried Filipino knife foghting and ir doesnt work. An Italian traditional knife fighter from HEMA martial Arts totally dismantled a Filipino practitioner in seconds, so i learned Italian Martial Art for knife fighting, it is way better!
Okay I'm not going to go through it because I don't have a video but this guy doesn't know how to knife fight. If you follow these instructions you will die.
Yep everything is easy to show how you'd control when the enemy isn't trying. In reality, he fakes you out you go for your counter he grabs your arm and you have a couple holes in you
Man thats the harder way to do knife counters in kali, the way I was taught is to push the hand into the knife and cross over like your using your arms as scissors, then you guide it it with your fore arm, and repeat for the 5 angles.
Not what I learned in knife fighting class with the Army Rangers. Once you get contact with your knife, you cut a C, and filet up. Basically, once you break skin, you don't slice deeper, you cut a piece of meat off. In this case, once he makes contact, he could cut the C, and go straight up his arm, basically skimming off the bone. He'd have half an arm left, and generally people stop fighting at that point and fall over from lack of blood to their brain. Same with a leg if you fall over. Cut the achilles, drag the blade up and take off their calf muscle. Kinda hardcore, but that's how you do real damage.
I've had a few bad situations in my life. The worst, I was shot and left for dead. Another was an attempted robbery of me and my wife Christmas shopping, when in parking lot. Once a guy came at me with a tire tool out of the blue. I was just out of high school. I was terrified but had the wit about me to pull my pocket knife, put my left arm in a defense position for my head while taking a side step and back. I said if you swing that you better hope it kills me because I'm going to cut you as deep as I can. It was like time froze and luckily for me he did not swing the tire tool. I've often thought of how close one of us or both was to death that night. Like you in training we had the 21 foot rule and were told if within that distance upon drawing your weapon, expect to get cut.
@@kentuckywindage222 did you not see the part where I said I was an Army Ranger? I learned this in training. But, I assure you I've seen far more combat than 99% of people. Once I got out, I needed more and got into muay thai. I've had 5 fights so far and am now almost 40 years old.

I credit God, good doctors and nurses and training in martial arts for the meditation which taught me breathing control, control of emotions and focus. Sometimes folks experience this kind of stuff, like I did and I hope if someone who reads this has such experience, that this helps them have hope and courage to survive.

Some of the old masters are actually convicts who have killed or survived knife attacks in their life. Some of the older ones were guerilla fighters who used arnis to kill enemies in WW2 and from what I know, our country used to have a BOLO-Man battallion, much like the historic Katipuneros, who are mainly armed with machetes and bamboo spears. My personal street experience is that those who do not train are usually the instigators, feeling strong as they are armed, have the numbers and the element of surprise. But when given an equal or stronger opposition, they would disingage and walk away. Much like predators who would not continue the hunt if the prey fights back. Unsurprisingly, I had in 2 occasions seen a fight stop and disperse by just pretending to draw a knife. That person is a pintado. Historically, the culture of pintados (tatoos), are writen stories and accomplisments in their life as tatoos. Those who know can read them. Some of those tatoos are counts of persons they have killed in headhunting.
Here are a few things you can do to get better chances of winning a knife fight: Get a sword > get a spear > Get a bow > get a crossbow > get a gun > get an assault rifle > get a nuke > get good running shoes.

I narrowly escaped the equivalent of 35 to 50 knives in a fight and would probably lose to even just 1... My wife (at the time) was about 3 months pregnant and asked me to pull-over by the public market so she could get some fruit. This was just before dinner so the meat section had knocked off work and more than 5 butchers were knocking back beers. BUTCHERS. WITH BANDOLIERS CARRYING KNIVES FOR EVERY ANGLE OF ANY ANIMAL'S ANATOMY! Ex's baby bump was not yet evident and she was definitely whistlebait still. And that she got in a very offensive way. Being just out of college, my rustbucket VeeDub Beetle always had empty beer bottles in the forward boot and I had to defend my lady's honor - - provided I had a good exit plan. I told her to get back in the car and not get down no matter what. I then popped the compartment open and launched over 5 bottles before the scum realized what they were getting hit with. From about 30 feet away, a few bottles hit heads, faces, and drew blood. The ones that didn't, shattered on the tiled counters, sending shards everywhere in their direction. I threw a few more and bolted. And then the wife got down! And then the car wouldn't start! Being so old, it was difficult to keep on idle. I swear on those butcher's graves, this really did happen, just like in the movies! And just like in the movies, the engine cranked once again in the nick of time. Another 3 seconds I might have been a goner. No, I didn't leave my wife behind. 😂😅 Getting a third party out of harm's way is paramount. Key Lessons: 1.) The same person who may do just the opposite, would endanger you both. This one cost me precious time since I needed to shove her back in the car. 2.) Projectiles, even bottles, are better than knives. 3.) An uncool college kid disposition is worse than stabbing yourself with one. There are so many other lessons, of course. Betting on a rotten jalopy and all its ills, to use as a getaway car, in itself, may have about another 5. 😅lessons.

"You don't teach them knife fighting. You teach them to kill. That way, when they meet someone who's learned knife fighting, they send them to hell."
This is not fencing gentlemen, this is survival...
The best way to win a knife fight is with a gun, from 100 feet away.
If the dude is 100 feet away from you, he's obviously not an immediate threat to you. can't shoot someone that's 100 feet away from you just because they're holding a damn knife. if you're gonna carry, learn the laws, and learn wtf your doing.
Not if he can teleport
@@richardsalinetrojr1957 Sure I can.
@@fustercluck2460Not legally.
"So anyways , I started blasting"
Why is it that in videos of knife contests eg friendly military competition or stress-testing knife techniques, there are are no fancy deflections, arm manipulation, disarms, joint-locks, etc? Knife techniques seem to go out the window & people just start fencing
I really, truly hope I never end up in a knife fight.
I had a knife pulled on me 2 years ago I took it and put him on the ground I also took 46 stitches on fingers and hand⚔️🗡⚔️⚔️😎😎
If your not ready to die, put your slippers on hand and then run, avoid a fight you aren't prepared to lose everything.
Anybody fight that slow... You don't have time to make any move
Like that ... Stop the cap...
I heard back in the old days, they will tie a short rope to the hips of the combatants before they start the knife fight.
The best technique I was ever shown for a knife fight was stomp like you're throwing a tantrum, scream with a high pitch ( nnnnnnnnnnooooooo!), then run away like you have flexible leg bones.
rule number 1 Of knife fighting is to run like your life depends on it
The first rule we were given in knife defense class, "You're going to get cut.
I was asked to rate this comment. I said it was informative.
@@chazilton I appreciate that.
I tried Filipino knife foghting and ir doesnt work. An Italian traditional knife fighter from HEMA martial Arts totally dismantled a Filipino practitioner in seconds, so i learned Italian Martial Art for knife fighting, it is way better!
My attacker feeling sorry for me because I cut off my own thumb.
"Um...your work here is done."
You don’t need any of this just have 45 with you. One shot or just the sight of it will do.
Best move in a knife fight is to run away.
Get a showel lik in russia and beat him. Joke
That's why I always carry a bigger knife 🗡
What if,it's a dead end alley?
@@tjanocruz9782 is that why it's called a dead end? Because you end up dead? 🤯
No, best move is to pull out your gun
Okay I'm not going to go through it because I don't have a video but this guy doesn't know how to knife fight. If you follow these instructions you will die.
So hard to test the efficacy of knife fighting today unlike unarmed combat
use paintbrushes
Yep everything is easy to show how you'd control when the enemy isn't trying. In reality, he fakes you out you go for your counter he grabs your arm and you have a couple holes in you
Man thats the harder way to do knife counters in kali, the way I was taught is to push the hand into the knife and cross over like your using your arms as scissors, then you guide it it with your fore arm, and repeat for the 5 angles.
There are several ways not just one
If you're a martial artist and you don't at least cross train in FMA, you're not a complete martial artist 💯
"oops, that wasn't the practice knife"
Instructor be smiling secretly about how silly knife defences are
That's why I always wear cut resistant sleeves.
Yeh stabbers dont go for arms, they go for faces, necks, backs or stomach
Should wear stab resistant clothes too
Yeah I got mine from Dior
Just ligwat. Always ligwat to defeat the enemy. Yeah, ligwat is the strategy
Like you in training we had the 21 foot rule and were told if within that distance upon
drawing your weapon, expect to get cut.
@@kentuckywindage222 did you not see the part where I said I was an Army Ranger? I learned this in training. But, I assure you I've seen far more combat than 99% of people. Once I got out, I needed more and got into muay thai. I've had 5 fights so far and am now almost 40 years old.

Yes Ken I saw were you said that. I'm 54 years old and have been blessed. The streets can be a rough place at times. It wasn't my intention to insult you Ken. My intention was to associate my experiences with yours. As a law enforcement officer I went back to work 2 years after being hit with a shotgun at 5 foot in my lower right flank. Loosing 1/2 my liver, one kidney, part of my intestine, busted right lung, 7 section of rib, half the muscle in my back, a hole size of a cantaloupe in my back and hole in abdominal wall. 127 shrapnel and bone fragments up and down my spine 5 in the half liver I have, 1 in my elbow and 2 in my hip etc. 2 years later I went back to work as a city officer in a small town. A few years later I retired because of health. Retired and disabled now with lots of issues. I died during this and now know there is definitely something after all this. I credit God, good doctors and nurses and training in martial arts for the meditation which taught me breathing control, control of emotions and focus. Sometimes folks experience this kind of stuff, like I did and I hope if someone who reads this has such experience, that this helps them have hope and courage to survive.
When someone takes out a knife on you forget all this bulshido and run away but if someone takes out a gun on you dont run because you cant outrun the bullet.

I would love to train with this dude

Which is why you train.

What's happening in this comment section lol
how many knife fights has he had?
Would you be able to pull the camera out a little bit more towards the end part because it’s unseeable the movement that he used to keep the control he’s talking about in the end, I missed it
i think hes talking about the post cut period where the arm is useless for a small amount of time and the left arm is parried and he pushes both hands down
not unreasonable, he advanced to a stronger position and gets more control.
Uhh 😬 actually it was a spelling mistake sorry guys I fixed it though
@@mikusmccoy8592 ahhhh
How much real life experience can these guys actually have
Some of the old masters are actually convicts who have killed or survived knife attacks in their life.
I bet you can’t beat him
Anybody noticed the gloves he had on? How smart is that! 👍😃
Knife fights are No Bueno for me. I see a Knife I run.
I remember once someone saying knife fights are fights with sharp hands. That stuck with me.
Remember this,, ppl dnt really tell u I got a weapon until u actually fight ,, then that's when they pull it out
Dude may have seen to many Seagal movies 😅

So disappointed
Only happened in any country besides The U.S. they never bring a knife 🔪, it's always gun. That's why, we have the most fatalities from guns.
I really believe this man was Pacquiao for a quick second. Oh he box and he fights with knife 🔪 too? 😳

How do you run away from a throwing knife fight?
Here are a few things you can do to get better chances of winning a knife fight:
Get a sword > get a spear > Get a bow > get a crossbow > get a gun > get an assault rifle > get a nuke > get good running shoes.
"Break the wrist...walk away."
Damn, that's gay as hell 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah uh.... you're NEVER going to remeber ANY of this in an actual fight, all that goes out the window. Anything is possible when u slow everything down and make up moves and have w guy whos willing to do whatever u want 🖕🤣🔥
Yeah avoid knife fights, but if you have a knife as well. Listen to EVERYTHING this man says. He will literally make you win.
This is the loop repeatedly playing in his mind while lying mortally wounded from a bullet fired from 30 feet away from his knife, right before Jesus gives him a great big hug and gives him the bad news about his equally ineffective "spiritual practices." 😂
very good technique
Poin pertama kita dpt mencederakan musuh terlebih dahulu itu yg paling jgn Kita cedera dulu biar musuh yg cedera dulu yg pertama cederakn tangan nya biar luka berdarah biar dia hilang fokus apabila dia cedera dia tidak berdaya lagi
Getting a third party out of harm's way is paramount.
Key Lessons:
1.) The same person who may do just the opposite, would endanger you both.
😅lessons.
I carry a Bowie Knife.
It’s a legit Mace. If your that close to me I wasn’t gonna do anything about it to begin with.
But if I had time. Proper experience with a larger knife can 100% be more lethal.
You have Reach, and Length😉. You have Weight and More Blade. You also have slightly less speed. Slightly. Barely.
If you do what this guy said. I firmly would just pull my hands in and swipe you. Step back. And mace you over the Head.
