I was a loyal fan of this show in the 80s when I was a kid. Love Ann Jillian! I sure wish they'd put this out on DVD the whole series and not just the first season.
Just one of the most enjoyable ,joyfull ,,EVERYBODY SING ,opening t.,v. theme songs ever! Everyone clicked. Great presenttion, ambiance quite realistic, well done and served with snappy dialogue by a staff of professionals. It really felt like a real restraunt.
If I remember correctly, this show started out being called "Making A Living" and then they changed it to It's A Living. No idea why. I can't remember if the theme song was altered after the name changed. I had no idea it ran until 1989! The channels in my (New York) area must've stopped carrying it. I always wondered why it was on for such a short time as I remember really liking it. But I don't ever remember it airing in prime time. It was always on in the afternoon. I don't remember ever seeing it anymore after the early '80s. And never in reruns. I always assumed that's because it was unpopular. Most people I mention it to don't remember it. Nor do many remember Too Close for Comfort or Angie, both of which to the best of my knowledge never aired in reruns and I also enjoyed.
Making A Living was only used in the second season. The first season and the entire syndicated run used the It’s A Living title. Angie aired reruns on ABC daytime circa 1985, as well as TVLand in the late 90s.

Very cool; I used to love this show. The first season had the women basically wearing bras as part of their uniform--cringeworthy. I doubt that would be any server's uniform today, especially in a luxe restaurant like the one in the series. The necklines got higher after Ann Jillian had a double mastectomy, choosing to not have any reconstruction done.
Life's not the French Riviera, believe me, life's not, a charity ball. It isn't all a great big bed of roses, it's not like showbiz, but the main thing I suppose is… We're not the people you envy, believe me, we know we're doing okay. We may be less than wealthy, but better yet, we're young and healthy, and anyone who's young and healthy knows that that's the way the traffic flows. We've no misgivings, It's a living.
You mean "OK, we may be less than wealthy, but better yet, we're young and wealthy..."? BTW, what was sung over "We're not the people you envy, believe me, we know we're doing okay."? Anyway, got it. Thanks!

One of the most enjoyable TV theme songs ever! 💖
Thank you for posting this. This is a great television show with talented actors. Cleverly written as well. God Bless You and stay safe.
Back when tv shows had theme songs
The lady next to Susan Sullivan does the voice of Francine Smith on "American Dad". Wendy Schaal played Vicky in season one.
It's got to be the best tribute video for a show they don't even rerun anymore. :)
Thank you :)
Its on the logo channel right now on steady rotation....sunday sept 3rd 1255am
....i just watched 3 in a row on Antenna TV. Never seen it before tonight.

Lyrics, please?
Life's not the French Riviera, believe me, life's not, a charity ball.

Thanks for the lyrics. Im still struggling with that part after "its not like showbiz" there is some kind of background singing i cant make out...
You mean "I'm", "'it's", and "I can't"?
Thats the part i wanna know...i cant seem to catch it
