How a Jar of Dirt Turned Into an Ecosystem

- Nearly six months ago I started an experiment. I put nothing but dirt in a jar to see what would grow. I'm not sure what I expected would happen, but I'm absolutely blown away with the incredible results! In this video I'll take you along in the set up and progress of this jar as well as doing the first ever maintenance session. Enjoy the video and let me know if you have any questions.

I’m blown away with the transformation this jar went the and truly hope some of you guys try this as well! What should I try next time?
Looks great, that moss is impressive.
Thank you! I’m very happy with how much of a succes this terrarium has been!
I'm trying this tomorrow, amazing idea!
Awesome! Good luck and let me know how it goes! 🌱
Very cool!
Thanks! Would you try this for yourself?
@CrunchyFern I would love as soon as I can get some dirt from my local creek, but I don't know if I can get wild moss as you got it...probably in the early spring when moss grows in the mountains here in Colorado
Wow! That worked way better than I would have thought. Great work.
Thanks! I wasn’t really sure this would even work, but it turned out great
I was looking forward to this. Nice!
Woohoo! Hope you liked the video! Next update will probably be at one year old
How much water do you add before you seal it?
It’s hard to give an exact answer, but I try to make the soil moist and not wet. If you’re unsure how much to add it’s better to go with too little water opposed to too much water. It’s easy to add more water, but very hard to remove excess. Underwatering is also way less damaging to the plants than overwatering.
Hope that answers your question!
THANK U SO MUCH IMA DO THIS AND CAN U ADD PLASTIC FOR A SOIL AND ROCK SEPERATER??
Awesome! happy you ike it. Yes you can use plastic as a substrate barier, but make sure to poke a ton of holes in the plastic to make it easier for the water to pass through.
@@CrunchyFern THANK U
