Can I make a Terrarium for Free?
🌿 While building terrariums and aquariums you're often left with a bunch of scraps. This got me wondering, is it possible to build a terrium completly for free only using scraps? 🦐🐠

    I know all of the online information says they are bad swimmers... But I've had mine since she was only a couple of weeks old and she's always been a great swimmer. She's over a year old now and still gets around great. I've been making her water a little deeper every couple of months to give her more room to stretch. But honestly I did closely monitor her in a tank that was completely full when she was only 6 months old And she got around just fine without any problems coming to the surface for air. I still only keep her in about 3 inches of water, but she's ready for more

      I have the same experience with mine! Never seen any trouble swimming. Back when I made this video I had no experience with them yet, so I relied heavily on info I found online. I still think it’s better to keep them in shallow water till they’re (sub)adults, just to be safe.

    Very nice paludarium. I live in a region where this species is native to the area. When ive encountered this species in the wild they are 100% of the time living in tannin stained water. Usually vernal pools or woodland ponds. The cork and driftwood in your tank should add some tint to your water but you could always throw some botanicals in there. I used to keep this species but it is not legal to do so anymore in the state i live in.

    • @CrunchyFern
      @CrunchyFern Месяц назад

      That should be no problem at all! Here temperatures will be right around freezing during the winter months. As long as you make your pond deep enough and do your research on what fish you can keep everything will be fine. For my pond the fish are all fine with a couple of cold months, but they’re not able to properly digest food during the colder months so I won’t feed them during winter. I added some very small neons which was my main mistake. Even the angel fish in the tank left them alone. Barbs ate them all up. I’ll eventually get some neons once my tank plants provide enough cover. Eventually want to have shrimp as well for the ultimate community tank lol.

    Sorry if you answered this somewhere already, but did you not need to seal any of the foam parts? I’ve seen a lot online about people insisting on using drylok over the parts they build with expanding and blocks of foam, but now I’m wondering if it’s actually necessary?

      @@ntayjohnson as far as I understand the drylok is purely an aesthetic choice. XPS foam and (some) sprayfoams are completely fine to use in your aquarium. When buying the spray foam go for something that’s marketed as being pond safe or aquarium safe and you’ll be fine.

    Rasbora would look beautiful in that tank, but they also like to eat the eggs of the shrimps. I had galaxy rasbora's and black shrimp together, they still repopulated as crazy

      Yeah adding fish is a risk. Pretty much everything will go after the shrimplets, so hiding spots are a must.

      I had those with these shrimp a few years ago, they looked awesome togheter! Unfortunately they all jumped out one day. I might give them another try now that the waterlevel is lower.
