I'm getting a spotted turtle in a few months and i'm hoping to make something like this. Just one question though, where did you get the turtle from?
Awesome! Hope your tank will turn out amazing! I recommend you check out the one year update on this tank to see what features did and didn’t work. I bought my turtle from a local breeder!
@@CrunchyFern Thank you, and I will
Great tip about the glass seams. Thanks for that, I don't think it's something I would have considered otherwise.
You’re welcome! :)
Cool room man. Awesome gecko.
Thank you! What’s your favorite setup?
@@CrunchyFern They're all cool in their own ways imo. I agree with you though, that turtle setup really works well.
Looks great, that moss is impressive.
Thank you! I’m very happy with how much of a succes this terrarium has been!
very nice video, keep it up
Thanks buddy!
Did you ever clean the condensation out for those first few weeks? It looks pretty wet but I'm just wondering if you had any problems or not. Thanks for the video, these kinds of terrariums really interest me. I've now made a small one and I'm curious to see how it will do.
I never removed the condensation. It does make it appear quite wet, but looks can be deceiving. The soil was never wet, only moist. I did make an update video about the project and it’s still going strong till this day! I’m now at the point where most of the plants start to outgrow the container haha. I hope yours will turn out amazing!
@@CrunchyFern Awesome, thanks. I'll check out that update video. It looks like you have tons of other great videos too, I'll check them out.
@@brydon10 awesome! Hope you like my other stuff too! :)
algae is there to filter the water removing nitrogen, phosphorus and dissolve organic carbon. This destabilize harmful bacteria and make the water habitable for the fishes.
I’m usually not a big fan of using chemicals to remove algae since they can only work temporarily as they don’t address the root cause. However it was getting out of hand and I addressed the issue by adding plants, so I felt this would be the best course of action. The plants I added (and plan on adding) will balance the water better and in a more appealing way than the algae does. And as of writing this comment both the plants and fishies are doing very well. If you have any further feedback please let me know!

Froggo time 🐸🐸🐸
so amazing bro keep it up you the best youtuber forever ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!!
what kind of fern is that?
There are two kinds. The one around the intakebay I unfortunately don’t know the name of and the one right side is a royal fern.
In December of 2022, I started hinting about adding frogs to the animal room, hoping to introduce them within a few months. Well, it took a bit longer than expected! But 18 months later, the day is finally here - we're adding frogs! And not just any frogs, fire-bellied toads! I love these goofy little guys' looks and can't wait to show you what I have planned for their new home. I hope you enjoy the video! If you have frogs of your own, please let me know what species you keep!
Keep it up mate your videos are great
Thank you so much!
One of my favorite RUclipsrs,
Oh yeahhh!! Love to hear that! :)
Where is the pump?
In the trashbin!
Your production quality is top notch bro.
Thank you so much!
How did you not just give up? I def would have. Sheesh.
Haha, I knew what I wanted to make and I wouldn't let anything stop me
It is understandable that people question your choice of filter or lack there off. But i must admit that their choice of words and tone simply does not bring anything to the table. But if you dont mind, i would give you some pointers on your algae problem. First of all, algae lives off nutrients. That is of course no surprise, it can be kept down by filtering your water better/more efficient. For that you need a media where beneficial bacteria can grow. Sadly your rocks offer a very limited surface area so perhaps you should put some consideration into upgrading your bio/mech filtering for a better water quality for your pond. But there is a different and very proven method and effective method to killing algae. UV Light. UV filters are simply key during the summer. But my advice for you is to look up koiphen, its an online Forum with a lot of smart people who have learned a lot of lessons the hard way. I started out a bit like you, with 4.500 litres about ten years ago, i failed a lot to say the least. But now i have almost 24.000 litres of fish pond and its coming together year by year for me. And last, but not least. Incredible landscape job. Well done. Best wishes.
Thank you so much for your constructive criticism! It’s the best way to learn and grow in this hobby. I’m ofcourse a beginner and feedback from the community is invaluable to be. I’ve already bought quite a lot of lava rocks that I plan on adding to the bog filter for more surface area for bacteria. And plan on adding more plants to take up nutrients. I will check out the forum you mentioned and am curious to learn more! I am a bit skeptical about the uv lamp. From my understanding (but please correct me if I’m wrong) does the uvb light kill both algae and all bacteria, thus also removing the beneficial bacteria, creating the need to constantly add new bacteria. The pond is currently doing really well and 100% free of algae! The water is super clear and all the plants I added are growing well (except the hydrocottle, that one died). To me it seems like the pond is doing just fine and there is no need to do big upgrades like big filters or uv lights. Do you think I might be right or is there something I’m missing?
How often do you spray it with water?
I don’t. Only in the first week or if I do maintenance. Since this video I’ve only opened the container once and that was for another update/maintenance video.
@@CrunchyFern okay thank you! I'm going to try it out myself
@@jlmedia1632 goodluck! please send me a picture over on instagram. I would love to see your jar develop :)
Where do u buy your tools from?
My local fish stores!
Bro I swear this channel is so underrated ( love from Australia 🇦🇺 )
Thank you so much!
I'm sorry but you have no clue what are you doing.... First of all you are right about one thing, green algae is partly caused by the sun, BUT it means you have way too much nitrates in water and nothing that consumes them. And I mean PLANTS! You need to add bunch of natural plants in the pont and then there will be no algae without any stupid powders and other chemical stuff... And by the way expanding foam in water with fish?!... I have no words...
I appreciate your honesty! This is my first pond so there is definitely a learning curve, however I’ve been keeping aquariums for nearly a decade so I know a thing or two about aquatic life. I definitely agree with what you say about the green algae. I guess I oversimplified my explanation in the video as I tried to explain the same thing you’re saying. The original plants I put in the pond got suffocated by the green algae and died, I didn’t want to add new ones until I sorted out the algae problem as they would just be suffocated as well. I got rid of the algae and then adressed the root cause: add more plants. As for the expanding foam, it’s safe, don’t worry about it. It’s not the special pond foam, but it is the same stuff. Same ingredients ect. I’ve been using this specific brand for years now and never picked up on any chemicals or changes in water parameters.
best channel keep the good work i hope you get 100M SUBS GOOD luck bro ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
Hi you did very well for building your first pond 👍😃💐

Your channel is so underrated, dude. Feels like watching National Geographic. Keep up the good work!
Wow thank you so much! What an amazing compliment! Glad you liked the video! :)
This channel is so underrated. Man you need atleast 1M subscribers. How does this video only get 8 views in an hour. This is some top tier footage and editing.I am genuinely confused as to why your channel is not more popular man.Keep up the good work!❤

Most underrated channel 🥺🥺❤❤ I pray for 🙏your success my brotha ❤❤
Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate it! :)
Should I get a group of permanent frogs for the animal room? If so, what species would be best? 🐸
I have done a TON of reaserch on amazon milk frogs. Tons of people have them so it's easy to do some reaserch and they are ADORABLE
@@rose-yg5db they really are! They are definitely a good option. I was also thinking about fire bellied toads and African bull frogs.
Do you have any overflow pipes fitted?
I have a small pump that sends water up to the bog filter which overflows and creates the waterfall. Not sure if that’s what you mean, but if not than there are no overflow pipes.
@@CrunchyFern ah ok, I've started building my garden pond , basically copying everything you've done! think it will take longer than it took you but I'm very much enjoying the build. thank you for putting this on RUclips. its superb.
@@jakpoore4540 I’m happy you like the video so much! And I feel honored that you want to copy what I did. Good luck and feel free to send me a message (here or on Instagram) if you run into any problems! Also I’d recommend you watch the one year update video as well as I explain in more detail how to filter works and what problems I ran into in the past year.
@@CrunchyFern the intake bay - does it need to have a lot of space around the pipes/holes, at the moment I don't have a lot of space around the bin.
You need to create void spaces near the bottom to prevent the pump from running dry. That’s why I use bigger items at the bottom and smaller ones up top. The bin itself as about the with of a fist of space along the back and a bit more on the sides.
Did you add a store bought filter or make your own bc if you made your own would you make a separate video on how to make it?? Also this video was very helpful
You should watch my updated video! I made an intake bay and bog filter. I’ll explain all about it in the one year update video :)
@@CrunchyFern thanks I’ll have to give it a watch
It's funny seeing people keep rainbow shiners. I catch them in the river here in Texas.
Lucky you! They’re beautiful 🤩
So water full below pound and get up to make the waterfall so the water is always in circulation?
Yes indeed! The water is pumped from the intake bay to the waterfall. 24/7 circulation.
Build a filter
The pond has a filter! The intake bay functions as a pre filter and the top of the waterfall is a so called big filter.
what pump do you use ?
Something small from superfish. One of those fountain pumps. Not sure which one.
very inspiring..... your creative editing process is amazing.
Thank you! Happy you like it :)
great build....
Thank you!
I did this in KY 3 months ago, with a pickle jar. I grabbed a small amount of mulch, then placed a handful of dirt/clay substrate, sprayed water, and it's been awesome watching growth 🙂
That’s awesome!
Cool shirt
Thanks! 🐸
goldfish are good for algae but they eat other plants as well, so as they get bigger you may run into some problems. cool pond though
Yeah I heard about that. We’ll see how it goes and hope they won’t cause too many problems haha
5:14 wat to deep for colocasia
Yeah it feels too deep but the label on the pot said it should be fine up to 40cm deep, which is how deep it is now. Should I move it? Maybe to the big filter or intake bay?
Blanket Answer by Cloverleaf will remove green blanket weed. Turns the pond milky for a few days. Dosent harm the fish or frogs & I can guarantee it will fix your problem. It completely disappears & stays away all summer. I dose it once a year. It’s the only product I have tried that works.
PS your pond looks great
I will keep that product in mind in case I keep running into problems with the algae, however it now seems like I managed to get rid of it already. PS thank you! :)
Hi, what size of pond liner did you use? And did you recommend?.
I’m not sure what size I did use, I might have mentioned it in the original build video but I’m not sure. Anyway I definitely didn’t use the thinnest option. You can find save money in a lot of ways, but the liner is one of those things I would recommend you spend a bit more on.
Center pieces are essential in these types of ponds for the fish to act more naturally.
I’m not entirely sure what you mean. Are you recommending I add a center piece fish?
No more like a large rock .
Ah I see, I'll keep that in mind, but I'm not sure they actually need that. The lily and other plants create a few different sections in the pond serving a similar function.
@@CrunchyFern right. Keep it going 🫡
Fill the bog filter with gravel and have the water pump from the bottom of the bog. Make aure to wash off the soil from the potted plants so the dirt doesnt go in your pond
Yes that’s how it’s set up now! Thanks for confirming that’s the right way :)
Great update. Glad the pond is still going strong!
Thank you! :)
This looks really good. ❤ I love this dyi filter system. I have a pond. A few things I've discovered are the king tut plant can be a challenge to remove. I had to treat mine as an annual cause of it dying in the winter. The root ball can be back breaking to remove. Thanks for the update ❤
I really like them! But I can definitely see them being a challenge. Glad you like the video :)
