Mark I was just playing with settings on the M50 with this lens and in 4k with IS set to enabled it crops it a little more and you get the full screen filled in. If you go to enhanced it crops it even more so I think enabled is the best of full screen and largest image. (This is all in video mode) Also I just realized this will only work in regular video mode for Timelapse it turns off image stabilization so the most crop you can have for that is 4k
Thanks Mark. First, I quite agree about the 55-200 mm telephoto, really versatile. Now you've got me rethinking a fisheye for astro photos. Unthinkable price. Cheers 🙏
Can the editing from circular fisheye to rectlangular be done in lightroom? If so whsts the name of the command? Seems like a cool lens im trying it out now
A great video, which inspires me. We're currently in the middle of winter here, and the night sky is exceptionally clear. So your images should motivate me to venture outside at -30 C :) For those who would like to experiment with this type of astrophotography at half the price, I've been using the 7Artisans 7mm F2.8 for the EOS-M mount, with good results on my M6 II,
A minor point, but many lenses will allow you to focus "beyond" infinity, which will blur pin-point stars. I know this sounds counterintuitive, but as one major camera manufacturer explains about blurring of the image when you turn the focus ring past the infinity mark: "... the effective focal length of the lens may change due to the effect of the temperature on elements in the lens, which causes expansion or contraction compared to optical performance at regular temperatures. .. To compensate for this, the option to focus with the lens beyond the infinity focus position is available on some lenses." This can be problematic when using a lens where the focus ring just keeps turning, particularly when there is no infinity mark on on the lens barrel. For this reason, I find Canon's 18-150 mm EOS-M zoom unusable for photos of the night sky (though the RF version of the same lens now displays a distance scale in the viewfinder). To ensure that the stars are sharp, I generally prefer to find the infinity point before the sun goes down and mark its barrel location relative to the infinity symbol. This avoids having to focus using star images in the view screen, which can be particularly difficult on a cold, dark night. There is another problem I would mention about cold weather, if only because it frustrated me last night :). Inspired by your lovely time lapse images, I took my M6 Mark II out with the 7.5 mm F2.8 fisheye from 7Artisans, which I use specifically for astrophotography. But it was -30C and windy on the Canadian prairies, and the fully charged battery dissipated heat so quickly that it "died" after about 10 minutes. While I was able to restore power by warming it in my hands, this limited any time lapse photography, which is a shame, since the arctic winter usually makes for extraordinarily clear night skies.
@@markwiemels That's been my experience with the 7Artisans fisheye, too - I just dial the focus ring to infinity, which is just short of the end position. But there are times when I've wanted a more conventional perspective e.g. perhaps using the 18-150 mm zoom at 18 mm. This is impossible without a hard end point on the focus throw. I was hoping this might be easier with the RF version of the 18-150 mm, since there's an electronic distance scale in the viewfinder. Perhaps you know, since I think you're also using the R7 these days? Otherwise, Canon's opposition to third party lenses for the RF mount may mean that we are stuck with their 16 mm prime for astrophotography on the R7.
Hey I just bought this lens and for some reason I cant take pictures when I have it on my eos m50. Do I need to change something in my camera settings so that it works?
Great video - thanks for the recommendation! I can’t see any listings on your Amazon link for a. Canon compatible lens though? They all seem to be Sony, Fuji and Olympus. Does these lenses also fit Canon? 😊
Bought it for 50 Euro used extremly happy with it. But i stopped the wideangle astro to get a newton and a eq Mount ;) but i think the 12mm meike is the bether choice i bought it to. Its extremly sharp and you can get good wideangle landscape stuff
@markwiemels Well that makes sense! Thanks. I'm going to try Intervalometer app for smart phones. It's gotten good reviews. The only catch seems to be that because it's on the iPhone (in my case) you have to be careful not to allow anything else to interfere, like an incoming iMessage. I will get around this by using an old iPhone that is totally stripped down. Anyway, thank you for this and your other videos. They are what convinced me to buy a M50 Mk II
Can you show how you get the 4k cropped version of these timelapses? I assume you use the video timelapse inside the camera, but what settings do you use *typically*.
I've been getting a lot of discounts for this but I just bought the ef 55-250 + viltrox adapter and the TTartisans 35mm f1.4 (worked AMAZINGLY thanks for the suggest) due to sales. How are other lenses on this camera when adapted like the fuji, nikon, or sony lenses?
I recently lost my rear lens cap for the 15-45 lens for m50. I can't seem to find a cap anywhere online or in the stores. Can I use any other lens caps. Pls help anyone
Did you ever do that tutorial on how to correct the circular fish-eye view into a more rectangular view? I don't think Lightroom or Photoshop has the lens profile so do you just do it manually? Or have you created your own profile, or used a third party tool?

Sounds great, that lens should work!
Hey, how do you process circular photos to be rectangle?
Which lens is this?
Thanks for the great video! Could you go into more detail on how to defish photos?

Good insight, this lens does focus beyond infinity too. On my copy there is a marking for infinity, and in "normal conditions" it's dead on accurate.

Yes, release shutter without lens setting.
Gday.
Would photoshop have fisheye lense correction. I am thinking bout both
Great video Mark! I have a Sony ZVE10, will the E mount version of this lens perform as well as the Canon version? Thanks!
Would i need a lens adapter to put it on a m50 mark 2? Thinking of getting this to capture the stars
Please, Mark, explain a little bit more of how to retify photos and videos with fish eye lenses. Nice video.
I will try to cover that in an upcoming tutorial.

The EF-M model keeps selling out. It's getting harder to find.
I found it here, direct from the manufacturer. meikeglobal.com/collections/meike-lens-1?sca_ref=4123478.jKAap04hzC

Just ordered one! Any first steps, suggestions or tricks for Astro? Just starting out with my m50, thanks!
I will try to make a video about it. Try starting at f2, iso 800, 20-30 second shutter. For time lapse, I rubber band the shutter down.
What do you use for the intervalometer? The one thing I don’t like about the M50 Mk II is the lack of a shutter control plug.
I rubber band the shutter down.

I shoot in manual, and rubber-band the shutter button down. Then compile in editing.
Gotcha, do you crop-in in editing as well then? @@markwiemels

Can't adapt other mirrorless lenses. Only old DSLR Lenses, and I dont think any, other than Canon, will have functioning autofocus.
@@markwiemels aaah gotcha thanks!
What do I need to make it work on a Canon R50?
You sold me. I just bought one for my M50 MKII.
what is the name of that lens!?
Where do you actually say the name of the lens ??
There is a link in the description.
It's a trick to make you pay attention or view the video twice 🙂
How to get the Intervalometer since it doesn't have the option for it? Thanks
I rubberband the shutter button down. I have been meaning to do a tutorial.
@@markwiemels hi mark. did you published a tutorial yet?

Just google “EOS-m rear lens cap”. Lol, there’s tons of options. They usually come together with a body cap for the camera too. Worth having extras.
I'm wondering if you actually gonna tell us what this lenses called
How do you record it throughout the night with the 30min limit on m50s
I don’t, I stop and restart.
Sorry, the Timelapse are photos, there is no limit. I assume that’s what you were actually asking about.
Oh alright,.yeah thats exactly what i was asking about.
Thankss
Greaatt videoo though..and really loved the lens.❤️.. ibut its arnd 300 dollars until i ship it to india.🥹
What about for 4k recording? Im thinking on a 7artisans 12mm or a 7.5mm
Where do you go camping?
We never go the same place twice.
@@markwiemels do you have any recommendations ?
Nice 👌🏻

Can I take Astro photos with the main lens😢😢😢 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Kit lens, I assume you mean, yea, but the quality won’t not be as good.
this not cheap . same price with the camera itself in India
Depends on your location, most places it’s very affordable.
Thanks !
No problem!
Try going to a aquarium, fish tank and snap away !!! 👍 👌
That would be cool!
Thank you Mark! ;-)
