  • In this backyard transformation, I have to first make my way through the biggest Agave plant on the planet. This thing was massive. It took me 6 hours of work and 2 trips to the landfill to remove and weight a colossal 1.3 tonnes. Not only that, it gave me a horrible rash on my arms, but nothing some antihistamines couldn't fix. This yard is mostly used by the homeowner for her dogs, and there was dog poo everywhere. Normally, I take the grass away, but there was just too much poo.
All up, I spent around 12 hours on this job, including 3 trips to the landfill. This is part 3 of 3.
Part 01: • This could be the WORS...

    FAQ's:
    Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️.
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
    Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
    1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
    2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
    3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
    4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
    5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
    Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.

I must commend you on your exceptional dedication to tackling the overgrown agave plant. It was no small feat, and the effort you put into trimming and cleaning up is truly commendable. In fact, it seems as though you’ve reversed years of neglect-a remarkable achievement!
Your meticulous work in beautifying the property has not gone unnoticed. Both the homeowners and the neighbors are undoubtedly grateful for your unwavering commitment. The transformation is evident, and the property now stands as a testament to your hard work and care.
I empathize with the discomfort you experienced due to the rash, but I’m relieved to hear that antihistamines came to the rescue. Your resilience and determination are truly admirable.
Regarding the grass, your decision was spot-on. Handling dog waste involves hazardous materials, and special precautions are necessary. Safety should always be the priority.
Thank you for your tireless efforts and the positive impact you’ve made. You’re an asset to the community, and your compassion shines through in every task you undertake.
Wishing you continued success and well-being!

I totally agree with your comment. He went beyond with the century/agave plant. Sorry you got the rash but something as simple as antihistamines came to your rescue. I too would not pick up dog poo unless it was my own dog's. She now has a perfect path to her clothesline, the green shed, and up the stairs to the upper level where her dogs play. Excellent job as always, George! God bless you and yours from Yuma Arizona, USA.

That Agave (Americana) is also known as a Century Plant. They can grow up to 4 metres over a long period. It was the winner of the Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society. They are meant to be planted away from walkways or where people and pets walk past it because its a hazard (obviously, as George experienced it). So regardless of how amazing it was, it was the best thing George could do for the dogs and anyone trying to get past it. He did the right thing by wearing all of that protective wear near it. A great effort George. No doubt people will pick up offshoots at the tip and will plant them. Its better that happen than cause injuries and harm to the dogs where it is.

Although I have to confess it made me a bit sad in the beginning that you had to remove it, this huge "Agave Americana Marginata" - but then I saw, that it completely covered the path to the upper garden, and then I understood the necessity! Hard to believe how long this garden wasn't used by a human and how sad having such a theoretically lovely garden, and only use it as a huge dog toilet. Makes me very sad that the person living there is so sick, that she can't use it.
But YOU, you do have such a big heart! If it wouldn't be on video I wouldn't believe that only ONE person cleaned up this whole property! You really rock, George!!!! I love your video channel very much! It's my most favorite on RUclips! All the best to you and the kindest greetings of Vienna (Austria).

A rule of thumb is if the plant has white sap, it will cause a reaction. Either hives where the sap touches your skin or blisters, and heaven help you if it gets near your eyes. You need to cover all your skin and wear goggles. Might sound like over doing it, but better than having a reaction. You did a fantastic job. Challenging and dusty, yet you didn't give up. Well done!😊

Holey moley, George. That was probably the most terrifying plant (really, I think it was an alien life form) I've ever seen! I'm pretty sure I heard a weird voice saying, "Feed me, Seymour!" Personally, I would have dug a big hole under the thing and dropped a couple sticks of dynamite with long fuses and hide around the side of the house. Blow that monster to smithereens! I'm almost 83, and I think it's older than me. Anyway, I'm glad you survived, relatively unscathed. Be well --see you in the next one. ❤

Holy heck that was a job and a half, George! That agave was a monster! I'm so sorry it gave you a rash. I'm allergic to some plants and it's no joke when it starts burning and itching. It was amazing to see the curved stone wall and path out to the back shed appear. It seems that at some time in the past someone did care about that place. There were even lace curtains in the windows of the sheds and planters on the wall by the old car. Sad that it was neglected like it was. I hope that it does get pressure cleaned by her brother or whoever it was, and that the rubbish at least gets put in a bin and put out for collection!! I winced when I saw you amongst all the dust and powdered dry dog poo with your whipper snipper. Wish you'd worn a mask!! But that was a stupendous effort you made and it looks unbelievably better. Holy overgrown pineapples Batman...I mean George! You are amazing, so kind to tackle that yard and you have made an incredible difference.😲. Not sure if you have them in Tassie, but introducing dung beetles might help with the ongoing poop problem over time.

That agave looks like something form another planet. It probably inspired the triffid! Could get a lot of tequilla out of that one! This must have been a vewry hard and not very pleasant job. I only hope the owner gets some regular help in keeping up her garden. You are a saint mate!

Props for tackling the Agave beast! 👍 In the Agave's defense, you did methodically cut off all its limbs. It might have been a bit ticked off and threw the rash your way 😉😁 Loved the lattice privacy fence at the end!

Thank you . Your persistence paid off in a very neat cleanup.I've never seen an agave that big, even when I crossed the Ariz desert nor anyone ever had that amount of trash to remove. You were like a dog with a bone in reverse. You beat it! The owner can now get to her shed and close line. Hooray! Love your attention to detail too. Putting up her sunscreen was a very nice act of kindness. You're heaven-bound.

It looks SO much better! The dogs will like being able to run around on the shorter grass/yard and now they can see the stairs and walkway. The trellis was an added plus, like you said, it wasn't new but it served it's purpose for privacy and the dogs. The entire yard (front an back) looks SO much better. I can't believe how good it looks now compared to when you first started. So much work and I'll bet that woman is thanking God for you hard work, you are an amazing person, George!

I bet the lady will be very appreciative with what you have done for her, It surprises me that their is no government worker's for people with disabilities or illnesses over there. There should at least be someone to visit with the lady to help clean or make sure her yard is kept clean...I know we have agencies like that in WA.

I dunno why but I'm addicted to watching these videos lol. I will say that when I'm home I get a very calm feeling when I hear people doing yard work (i.e. mowing, leaf blowing, weed eating) so maybe that's why I love these. I also love seeing the amazing transformation that you do! You're so thorough. Lastly, because of where you live, I think you're very brave!! Australia has some very dangerous critters and you get into some very overgrown, tight places!! But thanks for your videos, stay safe, and keep doing what you're doing!
