Karna was a fine pick. You can't go wrong with any of the four, but most people tend to go for Karna because she's another healer. She also learns the Boost spell, which, when used on multiple allies gives her massive amounts of EXP. Unless you choose to hold off on promoting her until you find the second Vigor Ball, though, she's 'just' a healer. The other three choices were good damage dealers- including one who's arguably the best wizard in the game. Either way, you'll be fine. Be sure not to forget about Creed's mansion as you go forward in the game. Also, I can't remember if you've used it in a past video or not, but don't forget that Slade knows attack magic, now. It's good if you need to attack from range with him. I personally wouldn't have gone the route you did with Gerhalt, but I know Norrec has been requesting you do for a while now, so it's totally understandable that you want to try it. On your final comment, I think it'd be amazing if you could play through Dark Cloud 2. That game was fantastic, and I bet it'd be really enjoyable watching you go through it.
Second Vigor Ball, eh? I'll have to keep an eye out, then. I always forget Slade has magic. Just like Sir Butt's magic - I always forget he can attack with it. I appreciate the feedback on DC2! I haven't played it in 20 years so I'm not sure if it holds up or not, but I have tremendous memories of it and I don't think I ever beat it. If I'm able to get it working, it definitely won't be until next year. Gotta wrap up KOTOR and New Vegas before starting anything else, but it's something to put on the back burner!
As mentioned, Karna (not the best HEALer in the game but definitely broken if you use her right and sometimes ranked best character) is usually the preferred choice. Personally I get Tyrin for his Freeze 4 spell. But all 4 of the characters are technically upgrades to their class counterparts (sarah, chester, jaha, kazin). Youre 3 battles away from Chesters promotional upgrade, but youll definitely need a spoiler on where to find it and hes going to suffer without a stronge promotion weapon. Same for the Vigor Ball which comes much later in the game and might not be worth holding off on promoting Karna for that. Elric with the Robin Arrow will now have the same attack range as May, but he'll still suffer from movement. Lastly, you already found the bookshelf item (secret book promotional item) so now youre just reading the books to get smarter 🤓
@AlexIsgAEming i don't often use him, but I do prefer him as his normal promotion of sniper. It's between him and luke, so you're choosing between 3 range attack or flying mobility. After your next round of weapon upgrades, just pick who has the higher attack lol
Do you have any plans to play the original Shining Force? Or Shining Force 3? I know you have a lot on your plate, but watching you play through Shining Force 2 has been the highlight of my day when you upload a video. If you're up for other genesis games, the Phantasy Star series is also great. Phantasy Star 4 most of all.
Thank you for saying that! That's really great to read. I might do another SF but what I learned playing Donkey Kong Country was that a little gap between games helps me enjoy it more. My plan is to put up a poll when I'm closer to finishing SF2 with a couple of options for the next retro RPG and see what people prefer, like Secret of Mana, Shadowrun SNES, Breath of Fire, and one of the Phantasy Star games, though I wasn't sure which (appreciate the 4 recommendation). As for SF3, as far as I'm aware that was a Saturn exclusive, and sadly I sold my Saturn many years ago (I loved Herc's Adventures and Dragon Force the most, but had Magic Knight Rayearth and a bunch of other things way back when), and I'm not sure how to go about playing SF3 at this point.

If Saturn emulation isn't an option, then that's that. A shame, too, since all three scenarios of Shining Force 3 have translation patches so the entire game is available to play for people who don't understand Japanese, now. I also love Dragon Force. Within my top three favorite games on the Saturn. Oh man, that'd be awesome to watch you play through. Darn.
Nah, it's emulated - I play the games as authentically as possible, ie not abusing save states - but the last I heard Saturn emulation was extremely difficult. Granted I haven't looked into it since selling my Saturn when I had a hankering to play Dragon Force again - talk about instant regrets. If Saturn is able to be cleanly emulated, though...well that's enticing. Very enticing.
@@AlexIsgAEming At the very least, I've had no problems playing through Shining Force, Dragon Force and a bunch of other games with no problems at all. There have been some games that would occasionally crash or black-screen on me in the middle of playing (Dragon Force 2, for example), but they've been few and far between.
i can give you one more advice ,heal lv 1 and heal lv 2 healing for same amount ,only difference is in the range of use the spell, so when you one square near your body ,use lv1 ,less mana same amount.and kick elric :D. and yeah you should egress when battle is easy to grind levels. You choose good, there si another knight ,warr like jaha or mage like kazin ,but only thing is that she supposed to be master monk. I was trying say to you from beggining :D. KArna is the best healer in entire game ,you can get her 3 times more leveled than all other party. after promtoe karna can equp that :D ,and protect ring to peter :D

It's kinda nice to have Gerhalt and Slade as basically equal in terms of movement and damage. Sorts of covers me if somebody gets double-attacked. But I put the ring on Sarah because I want her to be able to keep up, as well. I was half-tempted to give all the things to Elric just to see if he could be more useful lol
