Bruins Sign Tyler Johnson to PTO

- The Boston Bruins signed Tyler Johnson to a PTO yesterday and announced it on X. Johnson has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, and his foot speed isn't what it used to be.
He was the definition of a power play merchant last season, and if he makes the Bruins, he wouldn't be getting much time there. He has two Stanley Cups and has been serviceable in the past, so he could make this roster if there are some injuries.
Let me know in the comments what you think of this signing.

what are your thoughts on this PTO signing?
good move. good vet.
Great opportunity for Tyler Johnson!
Let's see if he does something with it
Good analysis, hope it's works out.
Can't really agree with your comment of "gapping hole" with DeBrusk though. Glad Sweeney passed on that giant contract overpay
By hole, I mean 20-25 goals they don't have any more in the top six. I personally am glad he is gone as well. Far too inconsistent for me. Thank you for the kind words
I think Johnson can still be an effective player on this team similar to JVR in the first half of last year. I’m more than happy to give him a chance. Hopefully they will balance ice time with the younger players, that’s my main concern. I won’t make a stink about it though. It is decent injury/depth insurance.
Yeah, I don't see the garn with his PTO at all. If it works out well and if it doesn't no harm, no foul
Alot of those unisgned players even older ones i think can still add value
DeAngelo,Hoffman,Pearson,Scandella,Barrie,Vrana,Johnson,Wheeler,Pacioretty,Schultz,Tinordi,Staal,Bortuzzo,Raanta, JVR,zadina, CalenAddison ect
Will see what they do
Tony D ain’t that old
@@MbisonBalrog he's one of younger ones with Zadina,Addison at 28 only 1-2seasons removed from 51pts and 42pts seasons.
I'm sure some team will take him or maybe defensive liability/attitude proseved had issues in locker rooms.
On my own team root for I'd take DeAngelo,Schultz,Tinordi,Scandella,Barrie,Bortuzzo,Staal over a guy like Stanley or at times cap wise Pionk I rather have them making under 1.5m then his cap 6m.
Even forwards I rather have a old Gagner,Wheeler,Pacioretty with limited roles/playing time over a AHL call up/plug. If your organization has lots of depth you don't need them but if bringing up a guy who's late 20s and a tweener might as well have older guy who's been there.
Tony D is a cancer in the room
@@bruinsdiehards is hockey though. How bad can he be?
Good analysis. We'll see who's out there...maybe. FYI: Jonathan Morello has de-committed from Clarkson University and has instead committed to Boston University. He will join BU for the 2025-26 season and spend this upcoming season with the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League. The pundits have been raving about this kid who was picked 154th, whilst currently rated 98th in the current (2024) lot.
Thank you and very interesting about Jonathan Morello
I say no to this signing
Understandable
Yet by this time of the year, they know who has been eating ice cream all summer and who's ready to go... So I'm definitely going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
So far the pto's that have been brought in under Sweeney have not been disappointing.
These guys plagued by injuries come to the best rehabs and trainers in Boston and they get another hockey life!
I'm betting Zdeno Chara's career would have been a bit shorter if he wasn't working with top trainers nutritionists and rehabs all those years
This is a significant surgery - it may allow him to play the way he's wanted to play all these years and he finally has the opportunity... Just like Linus Ullmark.
Ullmark never had a chance to rehab from his hip surgery, and when he came to Boston healthy for the first time in years? He exploded
I'm counting on that track record. It's not wishful thinking - B's have an excellent history with players like these.
.. So I'm going with it
I love these guys with hockey vision. They create time and space for the Young bucks.
Cap is shrinking Swayman.
Tyler is good…on a good team. He could add some depth but perhaps most importantly he adds experience when added to a younger Bruins roster. He might not score 30 goals but he has good hockey i.q. In my opinion and for the right price (and no more than 1 year) I think he can pay good dividends on more than the score sheet. Let the younger guys get some experience playing with seasoned veterans when the opportunity presents itself because it will only help their development and the Bruins organization moving forward.
Yeah I don't see a downside to a PTO
He won't get the ice he did in Chicago unless you guys have injury issues but a good depth scoring option for sure.
100% plus the majority of his points came on the PP
bad signing sweeney!34?he's over the hill.injury prone and his speed isn't what it used to be?signing yamamoto would have way better.younger, faster and his upside is huge.give him a tryout!sweeney mkes deals for the sake of making them but very few of them are good.
It’s a PTO. Zero risk
Yamamoto is not faster, and Johnson has better hands
Making deals for the sake of making them? This is September - they know who's ready to go and what shape they're in.
I don't see the Bruins franchise being willy-nilly about their signings...
Perhaps you forgetting that Boston has the top trainers, nutritionist and rehabs in the world
Zdeno Chara could tell you a thing or two
So could ole washed up, bottom of the barrel draft pick Linus Ullmark, who came to Boston injured
That was a bad signing too?
I'm being sarcastic on a Sunday
I'd like to know what track record you're pulling up that says the Bruins just sign willy-nilly - make deals for the sake of making them.
Seriously - educate me on what mistakes have been made on pto's.
Danton Hainan?
