As a kings fan, their 2014 playoff run was one of the most magical things I’ve witnessed in my time watching hockey. Have a lot of respect for Sutter & what he did with that team.
I really don't think the 2014 Rangers were ever all that, they had no excuses for taking all 7 games to beat the Flyers in Round 1, who should not have been in the playoffs in the first place, the signs were there that they were not going to beat the Kings or Hawks (who were only kept from the finals because the officials allowed the Kings to score offside in Game 7 despite all the technology available to the NHL to prevent that years before 2014)... Kings narrative is also absurd aside from the offside WCF goal, especially since 2012 SCF Game 6 featured an undeniably large amount of help from the officials, Rob Scuderi turned his back to Steve Bernier at the very last moment & somehow Bernier was given a major which almost never happened in the SCF when actually deserved, while the officials just a few seconds before ignored Stephen Gionta getting targeted by Jarrett Stoll the entire way & boarded at center ice, then they allowed Dustin Penner to punch Anton Volchenkov with no call before the Devils touched the puck to start the 5 minute major penalty kill
I gave the thumbs up. That said, I kinda feel like these rewinds end abruptly. But hey, it's your channel. Side note: as a lifetime Blackhawks fan, wasn't that the conf final, game 7, overtime that LA won when it went in off the D'ender's knob? Or I got the wrong year. My favorite stories in hockey are the "random chance beats skill again." Please keep it coming, whatever you can put together. The dog weeks are in full swing.
Its so funny to hear analysis by people who arent fans of the teams involved. As a Rangers fan I remember Game 2 being given away by the referees but no mention of it in the whole video. Looking back after, and being there watching every minute is a huge difference.
This video highlights all that it takes even to get to the Stanley cup final, let alone winning it. We should give more attention and respect to the finalists who lose. They have the second best team in the league every year and that’s something special too.
tough watch as a Rangers fan but a really well done video...up until that Finals series, that run was the most fun I ever had as a fan and have a lot of great memories watching that with my brother....I saw them win the cup in '94 but I was only 8 or so and as much as I loved hockey as a kid, I didnt really become a die-hard fan until around 2008....Lundqvist deserved better in his career than what the Rangers were able to give him, but some things are just not meant to be....
This was probably the toughest series lost I ever saw, especially knowing the rangers have not got back since. 2015 to the lightning is also up there, even more so when i went to the garden for game 7. After that the team completely fell apart, and it took until 2022 for the rangers to get back to a team that could compete again. (also, hank and carey price both deserved cups)
As long as our top guys show up in playoffs we can do it. But when zibenajed and Panarin just stop scoring it’s really hard. You know it’s bad when Barclay Goodrow scored more goals than any ranger in this series than he did in the entire regular season
This cup was amazing to watch, I had seen a lot of the kings team in the AHL with the Monarchs. I even have a Martinez bobblehead from after the cup win
As a long time Rangers guy... That was painful. The planets had aligned in an uncanny way. Martin St. Louis had been (and still is) my favorite player for years and for 'my' team to acquire him and then go on a potential Cup run... it was like a dream. But frankly, I knew the Kings had the edge heading into the Cup Final and none of what happened surprised me. The OT games could've indeed gone either way and one of the games basically went the Kings' way because of a thoroughly brain-dead penalty call off a knee on knee collision that wasn't either player's fault. Either way, it was an expected outcome, but it still sucked. :D
As a Sharks fan I'm still mad about these playoffs, the Kings were my most hated team until 2018. Now it's ok, this run was epic and LA has won without cheating, not like another stupid new team who had pay to get success, my hate is on them now.
The problem with the Rangers that year (and that era) is that they invested too much money and term into overrated/slow D Men (Staal, Girardi) and a franchise player like Rick Nash who was never known for being a clutch/playoff guy. The team also didn't have enough "useful" size, aside from Bryan Boyle. I've been a die hard Ranger fan my whole life (37 years, since I was ten), and I always thought that the core that year was overrated and outclassed.
Awesome video 👏 sorry this looks like a bot comment, just wanted to show my respects. I’m a Canucks fan but I love the work you put into your videos, makes them all enjoyable to watch
watching these throwback videos is like watching bootleg Rewinder videos from SB. the structure is so, so similar, especially the way you end the video lol. these are still good though hah
Im a dallas stars fan and this was the most excited I ever got for a non-stars game winner. martinez' iconic goal will haunt newyork forever- and as someone from dallas we are contractually obligated too cheer against new york and see their downfall. it twas a good year. ( also slightly sillier reason when the nhl games added be a pro mode- LA was the team that drafted my pro.)
There was no seizing of opportunity by the rangers …. Kreider legitimately caused an injury to the best goalie on the planet and changed one of the greatest athletes to play the sport’s career trajectory. Kreider should always be thought of as a incredibly dirty player for that and not some guy who had a breakaway and created an opportunity for his team
You should do the Patrick Maroon goal against the Dallas Stars in the 2019 Western Conference semi-final. As a Dallas Stars fan, I still get nightmares of that goal in my sleep sometimes.
This was probably the most heartbreaking rangers loss for me. It’s either this or game 7 vs tampa which i saw in person. Also, why did i get this and the usa canada olympics game recommended? Those were the most painful losses i ever saw.
The last few goals scored by both teams in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals all had very weird hops off the ice to get past each goalie. They weren't exactly soft goals. Even Martinez's GWG was a weird change up.
King Henrik looking despondent at the rafters is one of the saddest sights in hockey history especially knowing he would never get there again.
another notable one is Roloson after Tampa lost to Boston in 2011 ECF game 7. Old vet playing out of his mind who knew it was his last chance

I’m loving these Secret Base style rewinds of classic hockey moments. HP pls keep up the fantastic work 👍
One of these types of videos but with the Philly/Chicago runs to the 2010 final would go hard
the 2011 and 2015 finals too
I absolutely love your channel bro
Was just at the Marty St. Louis mother's Day goal... RIP Bob Cole. He still had it even then.
Martinez. No player name gives me PTSD more as a Rangers fan
See if you were older, the name Eric Lindros wouldn't sit well with you either
Love your vids
I was there for game 5 and the 2OTs. Best game I’ve ever seen in person and went home exhausted and happy
This video highlights all that it takes even to get to the Stanley cup final, let alone winning it. We should give more attention and respect to the finalists who lose. They have the second best team in the league every year and that’s something special too.
A goal that gives me goosebumps every time.
Great video gave me goosebumps!!
as a rangers fan, yeah I shed a tear watching this.
tough watch as a Rangers fan but a really well done video...up until that Finals series, that run was the most fun I ever had as a fan and have a lot of great memories watching that with my brother....I saw them win the cup in '94 but I was only 8 or so and as much as I loved hockey as a kid, I didnt really become a die-hard fan until around 2008....Lundqvist deserved better in his career than what the Rangers were able to give him, but some things are just not meant to be....
amazing video, and thanks for ruining my day - signed, a rangers fan
These are your best vids.
This was probably the toughest series lost I ever saw, especially knowing the rangers have not got back since. 2015 to the lightning is also up there, even more so when i went to the garden for game 7. After that the team completely fell apart, and it took until 2022 for the rangers to get back to a team that could compete again.
(also, hank and carey price both deserved cups)
dang.... look at the goaltending on both sides of that cup run. some of the best goalies of all time playing that year
I love your content!
why must u bring up this deep seeded PTSD until the rangers win a cup ill never forget 2014 😂
Seeing Lundqvist face first on the ice while the Kings celebrate, gotta be the greatest pic of all time.
*worst
Habs should have been in that final
NYR didn't deserve the cup in that season. The final was already more than they deserved..
the kings were just that deep of a team too given they had nearly the exact same roster as they did 2 years prior
This is copy paste from the channel secret base but I love it. Great video and I hope you do more of these
Awesome video 👏 sorry this looks like a bot comment, just wanted to show my respects. I’m a Canucks fan but I love the work you put into your videos, makes them all enjoyable to watch
As a Rangers fan, a really feel this
god it still hurts so much
9:56 my 10 year old self thought this puck went in… all the joy I had at that moment went dark in seconds
great video.
Do more of these but make them longer, take a look at the kings perspective of the playoffs
watching these throwback videos is like watching bootleg Rewinder videos from SB. the structure is so, so similar, especially the way you end the video lol. these are still good though hah
Surprised that the rags didn’t send kreider into Quick next
There was no seizing of opportunity by the rangers …. Kreider legitimately caused an injury to the best goalie on the planet and changed one of the greatest athletes to play the sport’s career trajectory. Kreider should always be thought of as a incredibly dirty player for that and not some guy who had a breakaway and created an opportunity for his team
You should do the Patrick Maroon goal against the Dallas Stars in the 2019 Western Conference semi-final. As a Dallas Stars fan, I still get nightmares of that goal in my sleep sometimes.
Are you gonna do a video on the Oilers 2024 playoff PK? That would be so interesting to me.
And now Quick from that Kings team is between the pipes for the Rangers. I’ve only recently been able to forgive him for 2014.
I remember watching this series. It was spicy 🔥
As an LA Native, best video I’ve watched today
This was probably the most heartbreaking rangers loss for me. It’s either this or game 7 vs tampa which i saw in person.
Also, why did i get this and the usa canada olympics game recommended? Those were the most painful losses i ever saw.
The last few goals scored by both teams in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals all had very weird hops off the ice to get past each goalie. They weren't exactly soft goals. Even Martinez's GWG was a weird change up.
