    my fave is the giant fookin bear, my friends and i overfed it and it just wrecks havoc on everyone. kinda like overfeeding the actual vagabond by crafting too many items

      @nitrorev  2 года назад +3

      Yep, the Vagabear is scary, that's for sure. There's a choice between handing off the items early for the card boon or saving them for a big burst of points at the end but denying yourself the cards earlier. Not to mention the consequences of making the hireling too strong if it's likely to be used against you.

    I'm looking forward to part 3 (the other hirelings?). We are looking into buying other hirelings, but it can be quite expensive, so I want to know how all of them work before buying a new set.

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +7

      The ones included in the Marauder Expansion are nice and straight forward to use but the fact that they correspond to the 4 factions that literally everyone has makes it so that you need to have at least 1 other full expansion to use them in a game of 3 or more players. Having as many Hirelings as possible will massively boost the number of combinations you can play. My advice would be to grab the Hirelings box that matches an expansion you don't already have. For example, if you are missing the Riverfolk Expansion, buy the Riverfolk Hirelings box.
      I will try to release the rest of the Hirelings videos very soon so you can see them in action.

    Hey, Rev! Question: similarly to how you can actually have two Vagabonds in a game, can the Exile/Brigand be used in a game with one Vagabond in play? This would explain the “if it’s the last item in the ruin” wording on the Brigand action, because then you would have two sets of ruin items - one for the Hireling, another for the actual Vagabond. Do you know of a reason why this wouldn’t be the case?
    (Also, great video as always! I think I’ve watched all your tutorial videos, even when I’m quite confident about the rules. It’s cool that you’re taking your time with these Hireling videos and spacing them out. This way you don’t have to either rush through a lot in a regular-length video or suddenly drop a 3.5h video on us hahah)

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +3

      Based on Rules as
      written, you are meant to return corresponding faction setup cards to the box once the Hirelings come out. Because both Vagabond setup cards correspond to the Exile/Brigand, you would return both of them and never have a Vagabond in a game with these Hirelings. Imagine a Vagabond game where opponents could just immediately give their crafted items to the Exile before the Vagabond even has a chance to take a turn. They could very easily get nothing but the ruin items which would be brutal for them.
      I'm glad you're enjoying the content. I try to include as many edge cases as possible to add value for folks who already know the rules well but may not have considered some novel interaction. Thanks for the support!

    Hello there! Sorry for so many questions regarding the Hirelings :P Here in Spain it seems we wont be getting the expansion until late 2023 so I'm just printing the cards in english and simulate playing them with the normal faction pieces.
    Woodland Alliance vs Hirelings question:
    How do hirelings interact with the Sympathy tokens when invading (either as an ally or an enemy) or destroying one?
    I'm 99% sure that the owner of the hireling wouldn't pay the card price since it's the hireling who is doing it. Then I know for a fact hirelings do not have a hand.
    What I'm guessing would happen is as follows:
    1. The enemy Last Dynasty warriors move to a clearing with a Sympathy Token.
    2. Outrage is triggered. Since the Last Dynasty doesn't have a hand (just like it could happen to any other player) the Woodland Alliance will just add the top card from the deck to the Supporters pile.
    3. The enemy Last Dynasty attacks the Sympathy Token.
    4. Repeat step 2.
    And how about if The Last Dynasty is currently a hireling of the WA? I'm guessing step 2 doesn't trigger since they are treated as your warriors but I'm only about 65% sure on this one.

      Ask as many questions as you need. There's a section in the Law called "Weird Stuff". It includes exceptions to the normal logic of the game. If a Hireling triggers outrage, the controller pays for it. It's not intuitive but that's how it is.

  • @eduardogonzalez4460

    Great video. As a sugestion, it would be great if you could highlight the fact that if you do not have the a matching card, you cannot attack the Spring Uprising, which make them very anoying. I'm saying that because this is not the case with the outrage, in which if you do not have the card the owner of alliance draws a card from the deck.

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад

      That's true. I thought it was pretty obvious by the fact that I said you must discard a card to battle but yeah, people might assume it's the same as outrage when really it's an analogy to Outrage.

    In this video, you mentioned that you think the Forest Patrol should be a default pick in 2p games. I would love to know if you have any thoughts on particular Hireling recommendations for 3p as well!
    Also, I think this is my first time leaving you a comment, but I've watched lots of your videos, they're great, thank you for sharing all your rules knowledge!

    • @nitrorev

      I'm always happy to read comments from viewers so thank you for joining the dialogue! The Hirelings were primarily tested at the 3 player count so literally all of them are great at 3 players. One of the problems of 2 player games without the cats is a relatively empty map and some Hirelings (like the protector, floatilla and exile) don't really do much to remedy that. Once you have 3 players, there are usually enough pieces on the map between all the factions and the hirelings to fill the board to the same extent as a standard 4 player game so all the hirelings work great at 3.
      The hirelings that best do the job of filling the map (and what should be chosen for 2 player games) are Forest Patrol, Last Dynasty, Sunward Expedition, Corvid Spies, Vault Keepers. These are the more punchy hirelings that don't have and wild interactions but just serve to fill the map and do more battles and contest space for rule.

    Follow me through an example of a 2p game of Eyrie vs LotH. The Eyrie is in the lead and picks the Exile. On the Eyrie’s next turn, he moves the Exile and battles the LotH (with 3 warriors). The roll is 2-2. The Exile loses 2 club tokens. Thereafter the Exile passes to the LotH.
    Now the LotH has a dud hireling since they cant feed items to the Exile. And when the Exile is back to the Eyrie, they can feed it items and battle and potentially lose all the items/clubs again before passing back to LotH.
    Would feel pretty bad for the LotH in this case heh.

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад

      Yeah that's how it goes. But as you play more and more with the Hirelings, these emergent interactions become part of the meta understanding of the game. If I'm playing a game and the Exile appears, then Lord of the Hundreds comes out in the draft, I'm much less likely to pick that faction.

  • @coachcro7722
    @coachcro7722 10 месяцев назад +1

    It says you can give the exile a crafted item from the crafted items box which the lord of the hundreds doesn't have. So you cannot, as LoTH, give out items for a huge VP boost

    Hi friend, why false orders cannot move the last dinasty warriors?

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  Год назад +2

      Because in the Law of Root 16.4.3 IV, it says that Hirelings cannot take actions outside of what's written on their hireling card. That means they cannot be forced to take actions. False Orders is specifically listed in the clarification text as something you cannot do to Hirelings.

    As a brigand controller, can we use all items in our crafting box to exaust it to steal a card or only the “R” items that we found in ruin? It seems all items about the wording of the card. Right?

    Can the Lords of the hundred give an item from their stock to an exile?

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  Год назад +1

      No, the Exile can only receive items from a Crafted Items box, which the Warlord (and Vagabond) do not have. They cannot exhaust items via League of Adventurous Mice either for the same reason, because that card specifies Crafted Items box.

    For the Last Dynasty + Coffin Makers, if I understood right, you could not take your hireling action that turn and wait for the next turn, since they would get released from the coffins, before putting them back on the map, right?

    • @FBracht
      @FBracht 2 года назад +1

      Yeah, I thought the same. And the answer is yes - the Last Dynasty’s ability is of the “once in your Daylight” type, which means (Law, E.2.4) you *may* (not *must*) use it during your Daylight phase.

    • @feldu9506
      @feldu9506 2 года назад

      @@FBracht Though, I guess if it's your last turn controlling them, it's better to place them back in the world before giving the control to another player, that way they are nerfed a bit!

      If all 5 of your Dynasty warriors are in the coffin, then you cannot place them on the map as part of the Hireling action. If some of your Dynasty warriors are in the coffin but the rest are in the supply, you could either
      A) choose not to take the Hireling action at all
      B) place any warriors on the map that are not in the coffin and those that are in the coffin will be transferred to the supply later and will have to wait until the next time the dynasty is totally removed from the board to be placed back.

    • @leandropolus
      @leandropolus 2 года назад

      So even though the card specifically says "all 5 Dynasty warriors" you would place less if some are being held by Coffin Makers? I would have guessed you could not do the action until next turn or that you were allowed to take them from Coffin Makers

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +1

      @@leandropolus In the Law of Root 1.5.4 Piece Manipulation is says "If you are prompted to place, take or remove pieces but cannot do so fully, you must place, take or remove the maximum number possible."
      Same with recruiting with the charismatic, you must place 2 warriors but if ever you cannot place 2 because you only have 1 in supply, you may place the 1 but then turmoil kicks in. The Hireling doesn't have a turmoil mechanism so it's fine to place just the number that you can.
