    When we are playing with the Flotilla, if the defender plays an Ambush our house rule is that Flotilla then can deal maximum 1 hit only, so far it seemed to work okay

    With Warm Sun Prophets you could force someone to battle you and then play an ambush.

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +2

      Yep! Pretty devious. This type of technique is frequently used by the Vagrant who also can force battles in their clearing but the term they use for that is instigate rather than force. It's a lot messier than this hireling which is just a simple, force action.

      @@nitrorev what’s the difference between instigate and force

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  Год назад +1

      @@Sh1ranu1 If you force an opponent to battle (currently only possible using Warm Sun Prophets) they take the action as if they did it themselves, they score normal points and they remove their own buildings or tokens in the order they choose just like normal. When the Vagrant uses Instigate, it's the Vagrant that decides the order of removal for buildings and tokens and the Vagrant scores all the points from both sides of the battle including infamy. Instigate is crazy powerful.

    Just a few more hirelings to go, can't wait for video #4, 5 and 6. Keep them coming. Can you also at the last video give your own personal opinion about which hirelings are your favorite 3? So your own top 3? Would love to know that (probably flotilla is in there, but still I do wonder what the rest will be).

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +4

      All great ideas for content. I feel that I need to play way more games with them to really know which are my favourites since there are 26 individual hirelings, that's a lot of content to plow through.
      I still haven't even played them all yet, though I did many practice games on TTS in preparation for these videos. It was such a fun time, for a stretch of 4-5 games, literally ever game we discovered a new interaction. Hirelings are such an untapped source of potential

    But what about if you move only the warlord in a path with a bandit ? Then it can’t be remove so do you just ignore the bandit or the move is forbidden ?
    And the D version of the highway bandit don’t really interact with vagabond right ?

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +2

      Yeah, the vagabond has no interaction with a lot of Hirelings. Same way several cards in the decks are unusable by Vagabond like Corvid Planners, Soup Kitchens, Tax Collector, Tunnels and Propaganda Bureau. When these powers are introduced that need to be broadly usable by anybody, Vagabond being so different just can't use all the tools of the other factions.

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +2

      And yes, the Warlord is immune from being waylaid by the bandits so if he's travelling alone, you just ignore it.

    I had a question regarding the Warm Sun Prophets. If using their forced move, it states to move all possible pieces. Does this also include any hirelings you control? Since it does not say 'faction pieces' explicitly. So for instance, would you be able to move both the cats and the sole lizard hireling, and then battle in the destination clearing with either the moved lizard or the moved cats? I'd assume no, since the law 16.4.3 IV states 'Hirelings cannot take actions in other ways (such as from False Orders)'. However, 1.1.1 says 'If you follow both a general rule and a faction rule or hireling rule, follow both; if you cannot, follow the faction rule or hireling rule.' So I am at a loss. Can hirelings be moved by the warm sun prophets?

  • @ookundanny3689

    Does Marquise's wood technically count as a moving piece? I know that wood doesn't normally move, but you do need a supply line to where you are building in a clearing. Could the highway bandits remove wood??

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  10 месяцев назад

      No, it's not moving by the rules of the game. Thematically, yeah you're carrying the wood from place to place but because the rules of cats building doesn't say that you're moving the wood, you aren't moving it. The Badgers' relics are the only tokens that move (and can therefore be removed by the bandits).

    It's the second time I think I saw you do an example with the cat's keep not in a corner.... Is it even possible to have center map? Am I missing something?

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  10 месяцев назад

      Yes, Advanced Setup. In the new setup system that is explained in the Marauder (and all future versions of) law of Root, you can now setup according to the ADSET instructions, which allow cats to setup away from the corners. Check out my video on Advanced Setup for a full breakdown and you can see the cards for yourself. The new setup make the game so much better and basically all factions get way more agency over their starting positions, not just the cats. I did a video with my friend Cole (not Wehrle) where we talk about 10 ways that ADSET makes the game better than standard corner setup.

    If using the Warm Sun Prophets to force the Lord of the Hundredths to battle the Spring Uprising, would the LoH player be forced to discard a card matching the clearing to do so?

  • @fad0881
    @fad0881 2 года назад

    For the move and battle, does the warriors at the destination clearing included? Let say i force move one piece to a clearing with 2 pieces, will i get to have 3 warriors in that battle instead?. Also can i force the enemy pieces to battle with the prophets under my control?

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +1

      Yes and Yes. Remember that it's just a battle and in Root, you would never separate warriors that are part of the same faction in a battle. You are simply battling in the destination clearing and any warriors that were already there are now involved.
      And yes, the force action means that the player is taking an action that they would normally be able to take. If the player being forced is an enemy to you and the Hireling is under your control then the game would see that as the enemy battling your hireling which is totally legal.

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  10 месяцев назад +1

      Great question. This all relates to the term "enemy". Hirelings you control are not "enemy pieces" (they are also not your "faction pieces" but that's not relevant here). The bandits only remove their enemies, so if you control both the Last Dynasty and the Bandits, the Dynasty isn't an enemy of the bandit so there wouldn't be removal. If you don't control the bandits, then you and your hirelings would suffer removal when you cross the bandit path.

    Bandit hireling question here: I thought they excluded the vagabond but at the beginning of your explanation it says "vagabond has to damage an item".
    If thats the case and you can play as the Vagabond, which are the benefits of having the Bandits under your control either promoted or demoted if you cant recruit any warriors?
    I guess just as a disruption tool alone its cool but it seems odd the Vagabond missing so much value.
    And speaking of the Vagabond what if you reach ally status with another faction and you move warriors through a Bandit path? I asume your ally warriors remain intact either as a adquired or enemy hireling and all the interactions goes towards the Vagabond himself.

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +1

      These are good questions. While it's true Vagabond doesn't get value for this Hireling, that's not exclusive to this Hireling. There are just so many other interactions that involves warriors of which Vagabond has none so there are loads of powers that Vagabond doesn't get benefit from. It's something you need to consider when choosing to play Vagabond in a game where Bandits are present.
      If Vagabond moves allied warriors, it is forcing the ally to move, so all normal rules apply as if that player were moving normally. So if the moved player is the Hireling's controller, they get the bonus piece. If they are not the controller (and not in a coalition with the controller) then the bandits are enemies and the moved player loses a warrior. It's brutal but that's why you shouldn't let the Vagabond become allied with you.

    • @SacredBlazeXxX
      @SacredBlazeXxX 2 года назад +1

      @@nitrorev since the Bandits are the ones removing your ally warriors the Vagabond wouldn't become hostile with his ally right?

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +1

      @@SacredBlazeXxX That's correct. Technically, it's not that the bandit is removing the warrior but YOU yourself are removing your own warrior because of the bandit effect. There's a crazy ruling where if Keepers in Iron cross an enemy bandit warrior with a relic. If they chose to not lose a warrior, they can instead remove the relic. But because the relic wasn't removed by an enemy, it doesn't trigger Prized Trophies and the relic is just removed permanently from the game.

    Already in the Hirelings set one buys pieces that are not needed (ounless playing both the cat faction and cat hirelings at the same time etc). It is not exactly the same pieces already gotten as iit is n the two smaller hirelings packs but when strechning it to three expansions with partly then exactly the same stuff it is overpriced. For a 2-3 player game I sure reccomend the hirelings though. Give the extra stuff away to a crafty freind and they can have their own hiröling stuff (using unusds original faction pieces, the reason to have hirelings is you don't have all factions playing in the firts place..).

    • @nitrorev
      @nitrorev  2 года назад +1

      Yes, that's how battles work unless there's some additional rule like WA's Guerrilla War, always just assume it's a regular battle with no special rules. That's the whole strength of being the attacker, the fact that between 2 dice you get the stronger one. The flotilla would be terrible if it just rolled 1 die since that's a 50% of dealing 1 hit or less.
