    About Noah killing Yasin: it is a popular fan theory that Noah killed him because he was Elisabeth's boyfriend. But I don't think that was the reason. Everything Noah did with the children (and probably everything else) was because it was written in the book and it was in the book because it always happened that way. Noah doesn't really have any personal agency in there.

    Where to even begin with this episode? I can't think of a single episode of anything in television in which so much happens to such a large cast.
    Aleksander's Walther is the mother of all Chekov's guns. Because it's Dark though, it isn't "if you see it will be used later". It's "it will be used later, and earlier, and later again, which was also earlier." So many people have messed with that gun and it's racking up bodies. Poor Martha died in the apocalypse but not even because of the apocalypse, just a simultaneous but unrelated homicide.

    • @ChannelNamePending699
      @ChannelNamePending699  3 месяца назад +8

      Oh my lord it's a literal Chekhov's gun.
      What kills me about Martha's death is that she barely even know what's going on. She learned about time travel like, 48 hours ago. She's known that Jonas is her nephew for even less than that. She's JUST reunited with Jonas, only for what looks like a burned grilled cheese in a suit to walk in, say HE'S Jonas, and then shoot her. Not to mention another, older Jonas was also pointing a gun at her earlier that day. I'd be so confused.

  • @waltergro9102
    @waltergro9102 3 месяца назад +3

    Just for the genetics of Charlotte and Elisabeth being both mother and daughter to each other:
    Charlotte and Elisabeth being mother and daughter to one another is the consequence of time travel. It's a causal loop or bootstrap paradox. Elisabeth and Noah procreated Charlotte. She was brought to the past and together with Peter procreated Elisabeth. Charlotte's and Elisabeth's maternal chromosomes (M) have no origin. That's the bootstrap paradox.
    Charlotte (M + N) + Peter (Z + P) > Elisabeth (M + P)
    Elisabeth (M + P) + Noah (Y + N) > Charlotte (M + N)
    The exact correspondent replacement of the sets of paternal chromosomes of Noah (N) and Peter (P) is highly unlikely. Also the lack of crossover or mutations. But it's not impossible. That's sufficient for making the causal loop (bootstrap paradox) possible. The chromosomes are copied (replicated, duplicated) in the loop.
    The weird genetics of Charlotte and Elisabeth isn't possible in our real world but is the consequence of time travel and implies the creation of maternal chromosomes (M) in the loop, without origin. This constitutes a causal loop or bootstrap paradox. It's an information paradox, because the chromosomes in the loop don't remain "the same", but get copied (replicated) to identical duplicates.
    The writers of Dark prescribed the possibility of time travel which implies causal determinism, a fixed timeline (Block Universe). Thus the grandfather paradox is avoided. But they allowed bootstrap paradoxes. The genetics of Charlotte and Elisabeth follows out of it. Because that's against our experience we can't really "grasp" it.

  • @masteronionnorth2341
    @masteronionnorth2341 3 месяца назад +1

    Another great reaction...
    The beauty and brilliance of Dark is that it keeps viewers guessing up until the very end. Up until the very final scene. You just don't know how this story will conclude and what will happen to the characters.
    Writing and execution at its finest... 😉
    Regarding the alternate world reveal:
    There was plenty of subtle foreshadowing going back to season one. All those references to mirroring, and many scenes had objects mirroring each other including the episodes intros. 😉
    Oh... alt Martha's appearance was probably the biggest WTF of the series for me. My jaw literally hit the floor. 😲

    Noah murders 3 children developing a machine that is inferior to other time machines he has personally used. Yeah, but he was trying to find his daughter.
    Hannah falsely accuses a man and blames an innocent girl, then has an affair with him, then blackmails another man to ruin him, then taunts him in a mental asylum. Yeah, but she was entirely malicious.
    Pretty much everyone warms to Ulrich (attempted child murderer), Noah (Multiple child murderer) and Helge (accomplice to Noah), yet reviles Hannah. Thus perishes consequentialism.

  • @Groffili
    @Groffili 19 дней назад +1

    "Noah still doesn't know how to play this game."
    It's a bit of a mean remark from Adam. It's not that Noah is lacking some insight into the whole time-loop thing... it's that he is lacking specific information about the future that Adam does have.
    Adam knows that he can't die by Noah's hand... because he knows the future. He knows the future, because he remembers it. He remembers that, as Young-Jonas, he has seen Adam kill Martha. Adam knows that this hasn't happened yet, must happen in the future... which means: he has to be there to do it. Conclusion: he cannot die yet.
    But Noah doesn't know that... and because it is him who dies there... he never will.
    It can sometimes be quite hard to remember, with all the information that we as viewers have about the different time-periods: the protagonists themselves do not have these.
    Even with all that talk about "the loop" or "the cycle"... time is still linear. They can't go back to _be_ their former or future self. They still go on, from birth to death, having nothing but their memory of things they have seen in their personal past... even if these events happened in a "general" future.

    • @ChannelNamePending699
      @ChannelNamePending699  19 дней назад +2

      To your last point, that's why Claudia is so impessive to me. Because against all odds, despite all the evidence pointing towards the contrary, she managed to find the one way that time doesn't have to be linear. And she accomplished this pretty much all on her own. We can talk about whether the loophole really is what she says it is or not, but it doesn't make her discovery of it any less impressive.

    do you know why Adam was not afraid of getting killed by Noah? - well Jonas witnessed witnessed Adam killing Martha, and that had not happened yet with Noah threatnend him, so he knew he would survive the encounter to fulfill that future memory...and as he tells his younger self, it is not a vision he will ever forget.
    and congrats on remembering about that spot on the floor, in that last minutes of the commentary....you talked about it a few times during the season, was surprised you did not pick it up on the moment

      Oh dang, didn't make that connection! That makes way more sense now. I still wonder if there was more to the fact that the gun jammed at that specific moment. It is also a very "Hollywood" thing to do to paint characters as either black or white, good or evil; I know a lot of people then bring up the Grimm tales they know to highlight how European folklore has been similar; but most of them have a moral; like little red riding hood; she should have gone directly to her grandmother but she didn't and therefore brought repercussions on herself and her poor grandmother; and although the wolf seems to be an evil deceiver, he is also an animal that needs to feed; Hänsel and Gretel? those kids literally eat the roof over an old woman's head... which might have been part of her trap anyways...
      and do not even get me started on some of the inspirations of this show; Greek mythology is a wild place where "heroes" do the strangest things; and Theseus is one of the worst

    4:45 goddammit those subtitles; Noah says he cannot tell his younger self what his "Bestimmung" is; destiny!!! not provision
    5:20 and here Noah blatantly steals from Stranger-Jonas... or well... maybe it is the other way round... anyways; great to have that same line in the first and second season finale; we keep discussing whether or not changing the past was possible despite the ontological paradoxes we observe... but then again they keep coming to that conclusion that they would do it any other way either; that maybe the question isn't about the physics but the psychology behind it
    which is of course a beautiful advertisement for 1899

      7:35 So in case you are seeing both comments; I cannot open my comment on Jonas' line about the big and small parts on any device; that line is intriguing as it is a direct contradiction to the tabula smaragdina that Noah and the guy he killed have tattooed;
      its "as above so below" line talks about superior and inferior in the latin translation of the arabic texts; this could be read as high and low but equally as more and lesser or even like here big and small;

      EDIT: 1:03:10 at least now you know; I really love these edits; and how invested you two are
      but then there is something I just noticed this year: of all the adults who were in the loop and met up in the bunker earlier this season, not two of them are together during the apocalypse: Hannah has already left for he 50s, Peter is inside the bunker, Katharina is beneath that/him in the passage, Charlotte is in the power plant, and Jonas is in the Kahnwald home using the Tannhaus device.

    Great reaction as usual! Congrats for catching the Elizabeth-Charlotte twist before it was revealed here.
    One thing that bothers me juuuust a little with this twist is that it shouldn't be possible DNA-wise. Like, if Elisabeth's DNA is half Charlotte and half Peter, Charlotte's DNA as Elisabeth's and Noah's daughter simply cannot have the full DNA of the half that Elisabeth got from her. Noah's and Peter's DNA has to be accounted for in this, and then this is just biologically impossible.

    • @ChannelNamePending699
      @ChannelNamePending699  3 месяца назад +1

      This was one of the main points of concern I had while working on this theory. I was trying to find a way to make it work biologically. There's an interesting discussion on worldbuilding.stackexchange.com about this exact topic, and I'll link it here since it's too long to summarize: worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/questions/170381/in-a-world-with-time-travel-would-it-be-possible-to-be-your-own-mothers-mother
      Ultimately I think it comes down to what the writers thought was more important - scientific accuracy, or the impact on the story. It's the latter for me personally.

    • @michaelklaus
      @michaelklaus 3 месяца назад +2

      It is technically possible if you look at how exactly meiosis works; to create the cells needed for reproduction one cell containing all the genetic information of an individual basically divides itself into two cells with different "halfs" of the genetic information; either one of those is then combined with with a reproductive cell of another individual also with half a set of genetic information to create a new complete set of genetic information of a new individual;
      now inside the new individual, a cell undegoes meiosis and it is statistically very very improbable that the two "half sets" of genetic information will be exactly split the way they had been before; you might have learned about the probabilities while discussing recombination;
      but this is DARK and therefore the improbable of course happens; Elisatbeth and Franziska share the exact same match of maternal genetic information that is passed down in an endless circle; but that also means that this information has no origin; it is in itself a Jinn of the second kind according to Novikov
      the paternal side of the genetic DNA then defines all the differences between Elisabeth and Charlotte; and Franziska? well there we see the recombination at work;

      As much as I'd LOVE to leave all the song montages unmuted, the video almost always gets blocked or claimed if I include them :/

    Everything is plausible but
    Charolette🔁Elizabeth, like could they have at least had an adoption because how is Peter still her father if she conceives her mother and her mother conceived her 😫😫😫😫😫😫
    Just don’t like it, don’t like it one bit!

      Of course that's impossible in our world without time travel. But with time travel and the possibility of causal loops (bootstrap paradox) it's possible despite it escapes imagination. Because half of the DNA that both have in common has no origin in the fathers! Inconceivable.

    Don't get triggered; this question is not answered in the show. Do you think that young Jonas and middle aged Claudia ever had sex during their time together? I always imagined that they would have, because they are alone with each other for such a long time.

      It's old Claudia and young Jonas who've spent a year together, so I very much doubt it.
