    Haven't seen a comment mentioning them but Date is probably the optimal choice then. CCR, dev cost, tech cost, idea cost , alongside heavy ships bonuses make them a really good choice.

    Lucas as an eu4 japan main for economic and colonial daymios I would recommend Date, or The pink one.

      Also the way I play as date is very simple. Do nothing but show strength wars until around 1465 or 1470. Any time I see a weak nation like iskiki or kono get declared on by Hosokawa or Yamana If I am not in a war I immediately ally them so I can get at least one provence in south or middle japan. This is to maximize my rivals so I can do more show strengths. I keep going until around tech 5 or 6 purposely not spawn Renaissance so I can keep rivals. Then I do rapid expansion. I honestly don't care if ashikaga integrates a few smaller daymios as long as they stay under 90% war score.

      @@trentduren3554 When I played Date, I tried playing that way, but was having a lot of trouble with the economy if I didn't expand quickly. In the end I find it better to do like one or two humiliation wars against Ando and or Nanbu, because they usually don't have strong allies and are likely to be conquered by Shiba, and then focus on conquering. I'd usuallly be behind in adm and diplo tech, but my economy would be in a better situation, and after unifying japan, I'd stay some years focus on stabilize the country and avoiding wars, unless it's a very easy one

    I had a really initially successful game yesterday. Managed to unify Japan quickly, started to scale, boosted the economy and made a fatal mistake. NEVER colonize Taiwan if you're not ready to fight Ming. They'll DoW on you as soon as you finish colonizing the first province on the island... I was lacking ships, my army had less morale (I switched to Confucian earlier) and they overall beat my ass. Will have to take another try today, cuz I'm badly bittered (had at least three successful Japan games, just forgot about the basic stuff)

    You make me wanna do a japanese run. Also, if I rememebr right, colonial + infrastracture give +1 dev bost in new colony so for a colonial japan maybe is really good taking infr ideas.

    The killing the ruler event happens if you take land from a non co-beligrent in a war. It at least that's how it happened in my previous games

      Iirc from the wiki the shogun can order a daimyo to commit seppuku if it started a war and has less than 50 liberty desire. Also I noticed it's harder to get a high liberty desire even as uesugi ever since domination dlc.

    is it worth not being a Shogun though? With the way each vassal is treated as independent of each other for relationships, Shogunate seems way more powerful. Especially if you go Majapahit --> Malaya --> Independent Daiymo --> Shogun

      With all DLC, you can't be a Shogun and an Empire. You can't even take the mandate.

    • @Bleiser3
      @Bleiser3 5 месяцев назад

      I tried staying shogun with occassional small daimyo. I couldnt take mandate which made wars with ming take a lot longer. The good side is that I did many missions that gave nice bonuses but the last mission that requires all events to fire up, didn't fire up even in 1700+ when I quit the save. Staying to do missions, take korea and adjacent areas is worth it, maybe and then take the japan missions. Idk really.
