    Thank you! This is the only video that showed how to take the pan off. I have to do my 2011 Sonata and wanted to get an idea of the pain & misery I'm going to get myself into. 😁

      Yeah, I thought a few wacks with a dead blow hammer would have been able to knock the pan off but the seal was quite a bit stronger than anticipated. Just be careful not to damage the pan incase you need to re-use it! Good luck.

    Apparently, you're the only guy on the whole internet that can tell me what those oil pan torque values are. Thanks. I ordered a pan off of Amazon, hopefully it fits.

      Cheers man. Got the specs from All-data! Hopefully your old pan isn't in too bad of a shape in-case it doesn't fit. Those other pans may fit and I just didn't try hard enough since I already had sealant on it; not worth making a mess and I was in a pinch. If I could do it over again, I definitely would have tried a dry fit prior to spread around some sealant.

      @@jontansgarage Yea, I'm going to need a new one since I've got a hairline fracture right next to the drain plug. I guess it's a common problem with Hyundai's.

      @@thomasbrittinghamjr.8508 Gotcha. Wish I could have found a replacement pan that worked then lol.

    Thanks, Jonathan! I'm looking to do the same job on my 2007 Sonata. I saw you made mention of buying a new oil pan, and that the one from Autozone didn't quite fit. Did you end up going with an OEM Hyundai pan? Also, did you ultimately go with RTV sealant instead of a gasket? Thx!

      The autozone pan didn't fit as the oil pickup tube was hitting the bottom of the pan; the shape of the new pan was definitely different. I imagine similar options available at all the other auto part stores may be similar as well. I ended up just reusing my old pan since I was unable to wait to order a new pan. If yours is in good shape with no rust, it won't hurt to reuse it. If I were to get a new pan, I would go oem from Hyundai or possibly Rock auto; however, I feel like with Rock auto, you still risk the pan not fitting.
      I ended up just going with the RTV as a lot of people claimed that when they tried to use the gasket, the bolts for the A/C bracket were too short and would not reach the bolt holes; this is due to the gasket being pretty thick. I figured the safe bet was to just use the RTV. I will say though, perhaps the Autozone oil pan would fit if I tried the gasket as it would drop the pan down a few millimeters and potentially allowing proper clearance of the oil pick up tube. Worth a shot if your pan is in bad shape; you can always return the pan if it ends up not fitting.

    i bought the same felpro gasket and sealant, should i use that one or opt for the sealant you used ?

      Do a dry test fit if you are willing to remove the gasket from the packaging. The reason I avoided it was because I heard that people had trouble with (if I remember correctly) the A/C bracket bolts not being long enough to account for the thickness of the gasket. I did not have time to get longer bolts so that was enough to get me to just use the RTV sealant; not to mention the stock pan also had RTV (or similar). If you end up re-using your old pan (which probably will get slightly deformed during the removal) than definitely use RTV since the fel-pro gasket (or similar preformed gaskets) won't seal unless the surfaces are perfectly flat and uniform.

    did you have any idea of what engine bolt size is needed for the oil pan and what washers are needed for a 2012 hyundai sonata

    • @jontansgarage
      @jontansgarage  2 месяца назад

      I did not take note of the bolt sizes other than the size of socket needed to remove them. Here is a link (www.hyundaipartsdeal.com/parts-list/2009-hyundai-sonata-old_body_style/engine/belt_cover_oil_pan.html?pnc=21510&diagram=20215A11) to the 2.4L diagram with the bolts though it doesn't show the thread size unfortunately. No washers on these bolts, they are all flange bolts.

    Question were there not 22 bolts? I ask bcuz I ordered an oil pan from Amazon that said 22 holes. I even got under my 2010 Hyundai sonata just to be sure it was 22. I hope pan and gasket fit I ordered from Amazon

      I just rewatched and counted 22. 4 bolts removed to pull out the compressor bracket then 18 more.

    Bro i watched an entire video on oil pan "gasket" replacement only to get to the end and find out you didnt actually replace the gasket 🤦🏾‍♂️...every things else was well done though nice work.

      lol. I apologize for the confusion. The gasket was replaced with RTV. The gasket I bought was too thick and makes it difficult for the ac bracket bolts to thread in. With an actual gasket, it probably works with the newer oil pans (the one I purchased hit the oil pickup tube) as it would add additional spacing but you probably would need to buy slightly longer bolts.
