    Thanks. I live off-grid, and run my well water through my Berkey first, then a Pur filter, then the ZeroWater filter. I still have a problem with hard water and mineral scale build up in my coffee pot and tea kettle. Is there a gravity fed water softener/filtration system that could help with this? Also, my well is hand pumped, and I have very limited solar electric that my DC freezer and refrigerator pretty much use up, so a pressurized water system is not an option right now.

Not sure what you think it means, but you can be off-grid even in a large city. It doesn't mean not having contact with people, or being a hermit in a cave on a desert island. I actually do live rather remote, in the country, about 20 miles from the nearest small town, in a county of less than 25,000 people. That's more off-grid than most people will ever get.

    This wipes that tap right out when comparing filtered to non. I can agree with everything in the video and is laid out just as I have experienced down to the part of running water through an already-in place filter first and I have the same 10-cup model. The part i had hassle with was finding the batteries to fit the TDS that came with the ZW and i researched around and found clear it was batteries LR44. After couple different batteries or brands, though, those LR44 didn't fit. No response to my inquiry about what's the actual size, it's obviously less expensive to just get a new TDS that I ended up getting a different one that does work fine. One simple test's when taking tap of water and a ZW-one and check out those numbers! It is good water filtration!

Check out the Cloud RO (cloud-water-filters.sjv.io/jrOrdP) or the Waterdrop G series (waterdropus.pxf.io/mg6A5a). Reverse osmosis provides the most broad contaminant reduction and protection.
      Aside from that, as is already mentioned Clearly Filtered pitcher (bit.ly/3XEksYj) or under-sink system (bit.ly/3HXym2C) would be great choices as well.

    I've used zerowater for about 5 years and have been happy until the last few months. I use the tds meter after every filter change and I went through six filters in the last few weeks trying to find one that got the water under 60 ppm. Most were still in the 100s. I contacted zerowater and they didn't ask for a sku or batch number. They sent me a new filter that was also bad. I've finally given up on them. I'm so frustrated because I really thought I'd found a good system. Other than the awful sour taste when the filter needs to be changed, I've had no problems until now. I've been researching for a few weeks and have my options narrowed down to aquatru, aquasana, or clearly filtered. Thanks for your videos! They've been extremely helpful in my search!

      @waterfilterguru yes, it was strange and disappointing. I read through some recent Amazon reviews and saw some ppl had the same issue. Maybe a bad batch of filters? I have so many questions that I don't know where to start! I'm deep down the rabbit hole of researching filters. I suppose my biggest concern right now is deciding how important remineralizing my water is. I eat a pretty balanced diet and take a magnesium supplement already. Thoughts? Also, have you done a review of the Aquasana water machine? That is the one I'm leaning towards bc of cost.

    • @Lightendog
      @Lightendog 6 месяцев назад +1

      I'm going to do my own tests with zerowater including looking at it under a microscope......so far the cleanest water is distilled water. I have been using my electric distiller for about 7 years now. Most people don't so the ppm's on different units so so zerowater really got me wondering. I'll be doing a video on it along with other things I have tested.

    • @waterfilterguru
      @waterfilterguru  6 месяцев назад +4

      @@Lightendog we'll be lab testing ours here pretty soon too, so stay tuned for those results! Also, PPM is a unit of measurement - not a contaminant. I think folks confuse this because the TDS meter provides readings in PPM. Keep in mind a TDS reading alone does not provide much insight into the quality of the water or what contaminants are present, as it does not distinguish what those dissolved solids are. For example, water with high healthy mineral content would have a high TDS reading in PPM.

    • @waterfilterguru
      @waterfilterguru  3 месяца назад +3

      Slow filtration rate indicates the filter is reaching or has reached its capacity, which means it needs to be replaced. If the filter reaches capacity quickly, that means there are more and/or higher concentrations of contaminants present in the water.
      I'd be careful with ZeroWater - their filters have a notoriously low capacity, meaning highly contaminated water will cause them to need to be replaced more often. You may want to consider pre-filtering the water with the PUR before the ZeroWater, this will help the more expensive ZeroWater filters last longer

    • @waterfilterguru
      @waterfilterguru  5 месяцев назад +2

      6 weeks is about standard for ZeroWater. The fishy smell comes from the ion exchange resin when it's starting to reach capacity. ZeroWater is known for it because their filters are so large and have such a large amount of resin contained within. That said, any filter that uses ion exchange resin that is not regenerated will eventually develop the same smell issue.

    I wonder why zero water (and others) don't have opaque or at least a sleeve that prevents light from hitting the pitcher water.. Once they filter out the chlorine, nothing is in the way of bacterial proliferation so if your pitcher sits outside your fridge you may find that your water goes stale/bad after 48hrs. Add to that the filter would be bathing in this, nothing prevents the bacteria from also making the inside of the filter their home possibly corrupting your future X gallons of water...
    Also same advice when prefiltering, to realise that the 'stage 1' filter will also go bad quick and need replacement regularly. It would be good to monitor this. I'm very tempted to get the zero water but it seems all systems got gotchas... The reverse osmosis seem the best but are out of my budget. The TDS of my tap water is around 50 so I tend to boil the water for the kids which increases the TDS while eliminating bacteria, etc..
    Seems there are no straightforward solutions :p

    • @Airbag888
      @Airbag888 7 месяцев назад

      @@waterfilterguruYeah I've seen these recommendations (soap/water) I'm concerned about
      1. the filter somehow absorbing some of the soapy water
      2. The inside of the corrupted filter still being rife with bacteria.
      Would love to see an objective video on this. It may be quite different though for the tests. ex: you may need to take the filter on ice to the test place to make sure bacteria did not develop during transit. Not sure how realistic this would be for you.

    • @Airbag888
      @Airbag888 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@waterfilterguruRight. What I meant was that given enough time the bacteria would end up inside the filter element. In between the plastic outer casing and the last stages of the filter. THAT would be hardest to get rid of.
      That's why I'd love to get more data on
      1. Evolution of bacterial content (as well as filtering of other things) as we approach the amount of gallons recommended (basically see what gets worse faster - the tds meter will not show this)
      2. The speed at which bacteria forms within the filtered water
      3. The presence of bacteria inside the filter (described above) after letting the water stand for 48hrs without consuming it.
      I think a sensible thing to do would be to always wrap your pitcher in something opaque to decrease sunlight (which worsens bacteria proliferation)
      Also remove the filter and keep in your fridge if you're away for a few days as well as empty the pitcher
