The KEY to Clean Drinking Water
Before investing in a water filter, it's crucial to know the exact contaminants you're dealing with. By adopting a data-driven approach, you can confidently choose a solution tailored to your specific water quality issues. Contaminants can vary dramatically depending on location, and there's no 'one size fits all' water filtration system.

Looks good, but what about getting rid of the chlorine and fluoride?
This one does reduce the chlorine. For fluoride you can filter it at the point of use for your drinking water, I'd recommend a reverse osmosis system. But if you want to address fluoride with a whole house filter, you might want to consider this one instead ruclips.net/video/TAE8YAzcar8/видео.html
unless you tested an unfiltered sample AND a filtered sample, all you can say is that there was no presence of SOME bacteria. It may have simply not been present in the source water...this is why control samples are so important to testing anything. You showed no source testing and did no control sample testing with, say, tap water to see what a baseline result should be. Therefore, you cannot claim the filter did anything at all.
The specific testing procedure we use is explained in our dedicated product testing videos, check out this playlist Product Testing: ruclips.net/p/PLDqZ4wajyRIC2ji0iERZf35uFwyQE5vji
PFAS are my biggest concern. I bought a Brita filter back in 2017 before I even knew about the issue and when I found out I switched to bottled jugs of water. Is there anything to do with it and what could I install in my basement for the rest of the house
You can reduce PFAS at the point of entry with a whole house water filter that uses activated carbon media or ion exchange resin. I'd recommend checking out Enpress' Pioneer system which is certified by IAPMO for PFOA/PFOS (two of the most common PFAS) reduction. It's sold by different brands that private label it under a different name, but its the same system. Check it out here: geni.us/nn3qI
What survival water tank system do you recommend? Hopefully similar to this.

Flush your hot water tank from the bottom twice a year to clean out the sediment and also preserve the life of your tank.
Good tip!
Just discovered your channel! Thank you for all the work you do. I have used the Zen Water System for many years. Have you ever done a test on them?
We have not tested that one yet
What system do you recommend for “very hard water” filtration? (18 grains per gallon) I was looking to buy Aquasana but it only handles up to 10 gpg. Thanks for your help!
Are you in a situation that will allow you to treat the water hardness with a water softener? If so, I'd highly recommend doing so. Then when the water is softened you'll be able to use the system you'd already identified as a good fit for your drinking water
@@waterfilterguruI unfortunately do not have a water softener.
In that case you will need to identify a system thats specced to operate within the hardness you're dealing with. RO is off the table, unfortunately

Hello Sir, I am disabled so my budget is on a budget per se, lol !! However, I did put alot of research into getting my own water filters. I saw this documentary on water for drinking...and found that a company called "WATER DROP". Now due to your mention of what TYPE of pollutants are in the water should fit said filter....I took into account years ago. So what I did and still do because frankly the bottle water will simply kill us slower than the pollutants will....what I do is this : 1. Buy any old filtered water in a gallon or bottle like a Zephyrhills. 2. Pour the filtered water into the WATER DROP FILTER JUG...and put in refrigerator 3. Therefore the water filter ONLY has to filtrate miniscule plastic contaminates and acidic properties in said water jug or bottles bought from store. 4. I miss all the (WHAT IFS) completely with drinking filtered water straight from the tap😊 from your perspective was this a good idea or counter productive to the " meta " ?
It's hard to say without any hard data, but the solid carbon block filters should reduce some microplastics if they are imparted by the plastic bottle. Micro and nanoplastics (MNPs) can range in size, so the filter might not address smaller particles smaller than the filter pore size. MNPs are tricky and pervasive in the food we eat, water we drink and air we breathe, unfortunately
@@waterfilterguru got it.
I'm worried about salt from my soft water. Does this system minimize, help, or filter that?
Yes, reverse osmosis is one of the best processes to reduce sodium (salt) added by a water softener to your drinking water
Do you have a video that explains how a countertop reverse osmosis filtration works when there’s only one water tank like in the water drop. I assume that the wastewater goes back into the tank.
I don't have a video, but I can explain. The water gets cycled through multiple times, so the remaining water in the tank becomes more and more concentrated with contaminants. This is why it's so important to empty the tank before refilling it, rather than simply adding more water to the remainder when it's time to refill
Whats the issue with flouride?
There are studies showing a number of potential adverse health effects. Many folks would prefer the choice of using fluoride topically for dental health rather than ingesting it in their tap water
@@waterfilterguru Thank you for your informations. Surely the dosage would have to be very high to have any meaningful effect?
Bonjour, C'est trop cher
Way cheaper than buying bottled water in the long run though - replacing the filters costs just $0.11/gallon. In comparison bottled, purified water costs >$1.00/ gallon.
Truthfully, there are so many discrepancies regarding the water filter system to use & what method to treat ur water leaves us wondering what is true or not & who is telling the truth? That solar method using plastic holding the water sitting in the sun, what? I thought plastic is bad for us? That idea does not sit right for me.
These are tips for securing clean water in preparation for or during an emergency situation.

It's on the list to test!
I have been a backpacker for 50 years. I only had a problem one time in my life when I washed my dishes in a creek using raw creek water rather then filtered water because after a ten mile hike threw the mountains i was just to tired to filter my wash water. I learned my lesson and never do it again. I have backpacked all over the south eastern united states from Virginia to Florida and all states in between taking my drinking water and cooking water out of creeks that ran threw the area. I was always careful about my water though i used a ,02 ceramic and carbon water filter and added bleach after filtering. I figured the ceramic filter filtered out all the dirt and grime and most of the chemicals and the bleach killed anything left in the water like viruses and bacteria. That has worked very well for me and in a shtf scenario I will continue to do the same thing unless we have a nucellar event then I don't think anything will help unless I take my water from a deep water well which I also have in my bugout location in the mountains. At home I distill my water to get all the chemicals out and it works great I don't need my daily dose of fluoride to rot my brain, but I have a big berky incase of a power outage. I also have a spring head behind my house which runs year around. all of us backpackers know that if you take your water from a spring head where its coming out of the ground it is pure and you don't even have to filter it unless the water is standing in the spring. I used a big berky for several years until the filters clogged up then I would switch them out for new ones. They seemed to work fine as well. I just switched to a distiller because i wanted more chemical protection but i don't know if it would purify the radiation out of the water and i hope i never have to find out.
Right on thanks for sharing 🤙
I only really care about removing all Fluoride, which is best ? thx !
Clearly Filtered geni.us/VsUZHW1 and ZeroWater geni.us/g7NtSZ completely removed fluoride in our testing
@waterfilterguru I have been stuck buying bottled water for the past 2 years, any recommendation? Can you do a video on the best filtration system for PFAS/microplastics?
Are you in a rental situation? Or can you install a filter under the sink? Thanks for the request for the best filters for PFAS/microplastics - this is definitely on my list to-do!
Did you try the sans ?
Not yet, it's on the list for the next round of testing though
Does the Gp3600 do the same quality treatment as the gp3800? I realize it is only rated for 600gpd but wanted to know if the water quality is just as good.
So I'm told, but I've not personally tested the G600 model.
Too bad you really didn't test sht isn't it?
Does the aquatru connect app work for you guys?
Yes it does
@@waterfilterguru I've been back and forth with customer support trying to get my account active. Once they pushed the new app update I wasn't able to get back to my account. Can't even do a password reset. It keeps giving error signs.
It did, doesn’t connect to WiFi anymore … which is problematic because you wonder if the filter life factor tracking still works. The reviews in the app stores, both Apple and Google Play are not fictional.
@@thomasreedy4751the filter life tracker on the body of the unit itself should still work, but keep in mind if the unit loses power that one gets reset. Is your unit still under warranty? I bet that would qualify for replacement
I really don't get why we are the only creatures that can't drink water with bacteria. Maybe drinking (clean) water weakens our body to the point it won't protect us from bacteria and viruses.
That's probably a fair guess. Just like how dogs can drink from a stream and not get sick, but we would. But it's also good to note that most strains of bacteria are not harmful, it's only a handful that cause disease
These filter uranium?

Great information. God bless 😊.
Glad you liked it!
a grayl ultrapress/geopress testing would be nice, they say they remove viruses also
Thanks for the request!
I get a lot of calcium carbonate through my berkey, any idea why?
The filters aren't capable of reducing calcium carbonate, this is an expected result
I'm surprised it won't, is it an extremely small particle? I boiled down ½ gallon of filtered water and had about ½ tsp of powder, looked at it under my scope and looked a lot like asbestos, I complained to the provider as having asbestos in my water they are selling, their tests came back as calcium carbonate, I tested independently with same results
@@RL-rh8zf The water filter media used in the Berkey filters is unable to reduce calcium carbonate, which is dissolved into solution. There are different water treatment processes that target different types of contaminants. I hope this helps explain
Awesome work, thank you!
Thanks for watching
Could you please do a review of the Larq water pitcher. Thanks
While I haven't done a full review, I did lab test it and post the results here ruclips.net/video/sF9rALA9XgU/видео.html
Wait.. so if i need to filter the calcium from the water, this is actually making it worse???
No, not necessarily. I think this increase in calcium detection was more likely due to our testing process, and not coming directly from the filters themselves. Our hypothesis is explained at 2:52 Berkey filters are unable to remove calcium from water. If you need to do so, you'll want to consider a reverse osmosis system or cation exchange unit. Typically calcium is removed at the point of entry to the home with a water softener, to address scale issues in the home itself. Calcium is a healthy mineral for human consumption
Dr. Eric Berg says alkaline water is not safe: ruclips.net/video/ovCJ0RE2sok/видео.html Would you disagree? Also I am a little bit concerned about stripping away the natural occurring minerals, they might be necessary for water absorption. Any thoughts?
If you watch the video you linked, the Dr. explains that water with increased pH due to the addition of minerals (calcium, magnesium, carbonates, etc.) is supposedly good - in comparison to machines that artificially make water alkaline by splitting the water molecules with electricity. Alkaline water filters, including the Aquatru, increase pH to make the water alkaline by adding minerals including calcium, magnesium and carbonates. You can see this demonstrated in our lab test results linked in the description. If you're concerned about drinking demineralized water (RO, distilled), there are a number of ways you can remineralize it before consumption, check out this article waterfilterguru.com/how-to-remineralize-reverse-osmosis-water/
@@waterfilterguru I’ve watched it two times already, haha, maybe I misunderstood, will watch it again and follow up. Thanks for the response!
@@waterfilterguru apparently I shared the wrong video URL (should’ve been this one: m.ruclips.net/video/6xTdFPOjfSQ/видео.html), but you’re right I missed the part about the machine. Thanks for the info about remineralisation. I’ve seen multiple test wherein the mineral hardly improved with a dedicated filter for remineralisation, so I was surprised to see that option at the top. In a review of the Aquatru I’ve seen you link to waterandwellness where you recommend the QuintEssential sachets as the “gold standard for remineralisation”, so what actually is the gold standard? The sachets or a filter? If you don’t mind me asking one more question: I’ve seen multiple tests where there were significantly enhanced levels of bacteria in the filtert water (ruclips.net/video/LObbHbx_2fY/видео.htmlsi=XLKZxCpAjWfROIlk). Are you aware of and or using a method that prevents the spread of bacteria? Or is the RO system thorough enough to filter out all bacteria?
I've been using this for some 10 years now and I have a tip: Put water in another jug (I use an old Britta jug) and let it sit for 24+ hours, or as long as I can. Chlorine is hard on the filters and if you let most of it evaporate you will get more life out of the filters. I think I doubled my life by doing this.
Great tip! If you don't want to wait that long, you can also pre-filter with a cheaper filter like a basic Brita pitcher or faucet mount, I made a video explaining the process ruclips.net/video/HyFgI9YhUFg/видео.html
@@waterfilterguru I thought of using an 'old' filter to extended life, but frankly such a set up, you might as well get a good quality home filtration system. I just don't own a home to do it in. :(
@@chrisklugh Nah, you can accomplish the same thing with a cheap Brita pitcher or faucet mount, replacement filters for those cost on ~$0.10/gallon
Thank you for the info!
Thanks for watching!
I have well water, yes its high in iron, but i have a iron filter on it, it gets a big majority of it, it is hard water, i clean the coffee maker maybe 2 times a year, the well contractors recommend a water softener, but the only thing is you see a slight ring in the toilet, but it gets cleaned often, other than that they claim my tap water is better than the city water they test often.
One of main issues caused by hard water is the scale that builds up in the plumbing and water using appliances, like the water heater and dishwasher, making them less efficient.
I got the waterdrop based on this video review .The water tastes great .
Glad to hear it!
Definitely a design flaw in the filters knowing how stupid we humans can be. Just try and remove the wheel nuts on your car and you'll find them over-tight and the same with the oil filter. Look at marketplace and items being sold because people don't know how to use them correctly.
Yep, definitely a design flaw. "Do not screw on more than 6 full rotations"... Allows filter to be screwed on more than 6 rotations 🤦
Years ago, a lecturer told us that certain elements were used in the making of Euro coins because of their antibacterial /disinfectant properties.
Any advice on re-mineralizing the filtered water?
Check out this article, it's about remineralizing distilled water but the same methods apply waterfilterguru.com/how-to-remineralize-distilled-water/
What filter system do you have at your house
I use the Aquatru every day 😉 with remineralizing filter
Curious about your thoughts on this vs the king water drop? The king had full fluoride removal in your other tests but this has various other benefits. There is certainly a cost difference. The water drops do seem to filter incredibly quickly, almost to the point it seems questionable.
King tank filters performed well, but the vessel itself is poorer quality than Boroux. If you want to reduce fluoride you need the extra filters which, just like Berkey, sit down in the filtered water in the lower chamber. Less than ideal
