No Rory wasn't an acoustic guitar player. He was an alto sax player, clavinet player, mandolin player,MASTER resonator guitar player & I haven't even gotten to electric blues guitar player held in HIGH esteem by all the greats. He's not even playing half of what he knows here. I suggest you listen to Pistol Slapper Blues,Nothing But the Devil, Rag Mamma Rag,or Too Much Alcohol but the best ability Rory had was that he was honest with his music, true to the form and a very REAL,HUMBLE person.
Rory, brother you rock man, saw you live in 76, just got back off the last 4 years in Nam, saw you in Seattle with Johnny and Edgar Winter with Rick Derringer, brother, you blew the audience away....the only thing I saw that compared was John Mayall and the Peter Green band in a biker bar here in Minneapolis a few years ago....Hey Peter, thanks for the autograph, I know it wasn't easy to give, I could see it in your eyes.............Peace, Keith
holly crap! thought i knew most legendery guitarists work,go's to show even nearing 40 there is so much i have missed, heard of rory in conversation but had no idea of the virtuoso musical work, phenomenal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you remember what was going on at this time 1985, here's Rory playin and singin the blues he sure was his own man. Not many people were stickin to their roots mid 80's. He is the essence of the blues and musician=ship.
Rory was such a class guy, always gave acknowledgement to the other musicians on stage. How to be humble and be great at what you do. If I only could, Rory's at the top of my list to sit down and have a beer with. The world lost a great MAN when we lost him.
I've been playing guitar since 1986 and can't believe I've never heard of Rory Gallagher until tonight. I'm going to punch my guitar teachers in their faces for not introducing me. I found this by accident after watching a Stevie Ray Vaughn number.
Do you know playing on Rory way today? Worst for me I had been taught guitar through Leonard Cohen songs...What a pity! When I began Rory was famous in England, Ireland but not in France even not in Germany
Love this. Lucky enough to be a teenager when Taste were big and loved seeing them live. But what's this obsession with who was the better guitarist. They were all different and all great. Just enjoy Rory, Eric, Peter, Carlos, Jimi, Jeff and Jimmy without trying to rank them.
j ai eu une chance de le voir en concert et c est une chose qui restera dans ma tete jusque la fin quel perte le blues à perdu le plus grand malgré que j adore eric clapton
a media man asked jimi what it was like to be the greatest guitar player in the world. jimi giggled, smiled in that coy way as he replied "how the hell should i know? go and ask rory gallagher" true story folks
Now this is the blues. Nothing fancy, just raw soul. I'm sick of these guitar players who try to clutter up the blues with 5 million more notes than it needs.
so im blues lover from Croatia,we got just one blues-rock band Majke(Mamas)...but i dont understand how 90 % of people in world dont know who Rory is O.o They Shock Me :D
Saw him at the Palais in Melbourne in the 70's. He nearly lifted the roof off the place but I thought "Out on the western plain" was the highlight of the night for me. Thanks Rory, you were a star.
I've loved this man and his music since I was a child.. To bad I never got to see him live... You are sadly missed Rory.. The don't make'em like you anymore...
@cycloneaxe welcome, enjoy the whole Rory experience. You've wasted a lot of time. Those of us nearing 60 still can't get enough, even tho we saw him live, many times.

Nice smooth sounds from Rory and his harmonica man....the acoustic guitar is great in Rory's hands...thank you Rory...Joe a.k.a. Hollywood Joe hollywood joe . com
Clapton is a good Songwriter, but as a musician ( guitarist ) Rory is Clearly better , more feeling , more Power, let me say it like this, Clapton plays the Blues , Rory is the Blues !
@@banjomusic76 : Let me put it this way: There's more Robert Johnson in Rory Gallagher's treatment of Walkin' Blues, live, than what Eric Clapton produced in a studio. I gotta give the edge to Gallagher, whom I only recently discovered, because I'm musically retarded. But there's no way I can say that Gallagher achieved what Clapton did in rock with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce. As I said, I'm only just starting to check out Gallagher, now, and everything I've seen had soul and a raw virtuosity that I don't associate with many white men.
Sorry man but these are nothing but rip offs from hard working Blacks from the 20's and 30's. Walkin' Blues" or "Walking Blues" is a blues standard written and recorded by American Delta blues musician Son House in 1930. Although unissued at the time, it was part of House's repertoire and other musicians, including Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters, adapted the song and recorded their own versions.
The great guitar riffs just keep coming! Plus the soulful blues singing, and the great harmonica too
This is good as fine wine. Gets better every time I drink it!
Rory was truly brilliant. What a loss. I hope he's in guitar heaven with Stevie, Jimi and so many others having a blast!
Stevie Ray, Jimi Hendrix. Para mi, es más difícil elegir.
Creo q para ser tan parecidos ( no m refiero musicalmente)
Podrían formar un grupazo. ¿NO?
Legend on everything he did, pure blues. Roryin On with this tune ❤

This is just INSANE. LOVE IT!! Blues is timeless! Rory is the best guitarist I know. So much feeling!
Rory has been so great in many ways, I’ve loved him and still love his music. And he was a very fine person ! ❤ jon fisher

I've been playing guitar since 1986 and can't believe I've never heard of Rory Gallagher until tonight. I'm going to punch my guitar teachers in their faces for not introducing me. I found this by accident after watching a Stevie Ray Vaughn number.
And well you should. ☺️

Rocking on the porch, the rhythm just feels so right. The 'weary' voice and great harmonica playing complement a classic.
Love his voice.

banjomusic76 ...and the guys Johnson played like might’ve thought the same about him. We ALL have the blues and express them in our own ways.
