Haydenshapes "Holy Hypto" Surfboard Review Ep 137

  • In this episode, Noel Salas reviews the Holy Hypto by Haydenshapes. It's a board combo between the Hypto Krypto and the Holy Grail. Shaper Hayden Cox gives us a little insight on what makes this board come alive. Like the Hypto Krypto, it carries speed and transitions well between sections. Its entry rocker is similar to the Holy Grail, which helps you get into tight sections in the pocket. The Holy Hypto has drive and hold when you surf it off the tail. Ian Wooly from Wooly TV calls the board "whippy" and thought it was super responsive and nice on rail in some powerful waves in Australia. Asa Cascavilla rides the Holy Hypto and refers to it "pivoting really well," calls it "stable," and says it felt really good under his feet. While North Floridian Eric Peterson says it was "fast and lively" and says it transitions well in those flat, mushy sections. Finally, Noel gives it a thumb's up for powerful top- to- bottom surfing with fast, sharp turns. Noel calls it the best high performance short board he's ridden in the pool to date. With the Surf n' Show Carbon Twin + Trailer, it goes mental! For you quad guys, the board has great drive, hold and surfs the pocket vertically too. Enjoy!

  • @coldseamonster

    Ok, so curious about round pin / thumb tail and twin plus trailer. In theory seems like fin choice that would loosen but then round pin offers hold? Does it loosen in areas you want but hold in punchy conditions?

    Great review. I currently have the untitled stock 5'9 30.5 litres, which is one of the best boards ive ridden in 1-4 ft. But after something for 3-6ft when theres more push as the untiled gets a bit skatey in bigger waves. Thinking the Holey Hypto with AM2 fins for carving. In 6'2 84 kgs advanced surfer. Id usually go 6'0 for a performance board. But 32.5 L might be a bit much. So thinking 5'11. How do you find it surfs? Should i keep it closer to 30L or just go the 6'0.

    Once again a great review which makes the purchase decision even more difficult :-) Which board do you think is more versatile in different wave heights and also works in choppy waves? I have a Future Flex and find it difficult to control in 5+ and / or choppy waves. Rusty Deuce, Lost RNF, Phantom, Holy Hypto?

    • @surfnshowreviews7777
      @surfnshowreviews7777  5 месяцев назад +1

      My first choice would be the Rusty Deuce in PU/Poly for windy conditions. My second choice is the 96 in PU/Poly. If you have n ver surfed a pure twin fin before and you get the Deuce…, make sure you get the right twin fin template. My HP Twins go mental in that board. They also go good in the 96

      Pro/Expert = 32-34L
      Advanced = 34-36L
      Intermediate = 37-39L
      You can use these numbers to help pull the trigger on a stock board. The HH is a good paddler and easy to shred for a performance board. I say get the stock size that has similar volume to your favorite daily driver or HPSB. Cheers

    Hi Noel, I’m an intermediate surfer looking at getting the HH as my “good wave” board (though I know you’re calling it a daily driver). Question on how FutureFlex floats…I currently ride an epoxy 6’3 at 37.8 liters and that works well for me. However the HH stock dim 6’3 is only 36.4 L while the stock 6’4 is 37.75 L. Does FutureFlex float you higher in the water? In other words, if I get the 6’3 at 36.4 L will it feel closer to a 37-38 L or should I just go with the 6’4 37.75 L closest to my normal volume. My only concern is if that inch longer will feel like too much board in the pocket.

    • @surfnshowreviews7777
      @surfnshowreviews7777  7 месяцев назад +1

      The HH seems to pivot faster and with a raked set of fins it will also offer more hold and drive through turns in overhead waves compared to the D2.
      The D2 has more glide and carries more down the line speed. The D2 will out perform the HH in 1-4’ surf as a small wave performance board with a 2+1 fin set up. However the HH will out perform the D2 in 4-6’+ surf due to its high performance outline and round pin tail.
      For the pool…. I think the D2 can be ridden shorter when comparing stock dims to HH. For my size the D2 is 5’4” and the HH is 5’6” for pool shredding. Both go good in the pool for me…

I already have a Pod Mod 5'8 33.5L and looking for something slightly more high performance (also have a Pyzel Ghost for the good days). The Holy Hypto is good and user friendly but it might be a bit long for you at the higher volume. If you like more rail line and want stability then go Holy Hypto. I like your Pod Mod better than the Hypto Krypto.
      Another board that shreds all wave sizes and it will be shorter that I love is the Lost RNF 96. That would be my 1 board quiver for 1-8’ surf that paddles good and easy to shred.
