  • Lioness gets separated from one of her lion cubs in the Kruger National Park South Africa
The H12 lioness gave birth to 3 cubs a few months ago and managed to keep them well hidden for the first few months of this year. She is often seen on the high level bridge that connects to the H4-1. We knew she pregnant and had probably given birth to the cubs but assumed she was keeping the den on the S30 which has been closed to public since the beginning of the year. On this occasion we took a drive in the afternoon from Skukuza to lower sabie and noticed a bunch or cars stopped on the H12 bridge. This usually means a big cat sighting. We thought it might be the H12 lioness who we frequently see around this area. As she emerged from the traffic jam caused on the other side of the bridge we realised it was her but much to our surprise she was trailed by 3 adorable lion cubs. We had been waiting to see them knowing she was pregnant a few months ago. A beautiful sighting slowly turned bitter as only 2 cubs managed to navigate through the traffic and catch up to mom. The lioness called and the third cub would answer but she didn’t go back for it and proceeded to cross the bridge with the 2 cubs and headed in the direction of Skukuza. We went back to the 3rd cub who was left behind the cub was continuously calling but the lioness had moved away so far with the other 2 cubs and was followed by an entourage of cars so she wouldn’t be able to hear the calls. At this point we feared the worst and headed back to camp with heavy hearts not knowing what would happen to the third cub. We were staying at Lower Sabie and our original plan was to head up to Tshokwane but knowing the situation from the day before we back in the direction of Skukuza to see if we could see them again as we approached the H12 bridge 2 cars were stopped we were filled with excitement now hoping the lioness had gone back for the third cub. Finally we reached the stopped cars and there was the lioness with all 3 cubs! Such a happy moment knowing they were reunited.
The H12 lioness is a solo lioness which makes it even harder for her. she lost her other pride member/sister last year who appeared to have sustained a really bad injury from a hunt. The
3 cubs are fathered by the 3 Mazithi/tshokwane males. We hope this lioness will be successful in raising her cubs and hopefully eventually expanding this pride.

Mamma mia they are just gorgeous♛❤️🐾drawing a lot of attention that one cub becomes separated & frightened in the confusion of the traffic. The lost cub would've felt relieved being reunited with mom & its siblings again, they are closely bonded. Not easy being a single lioness raising cubs with all the fraught & dangers. Beautiful sightings with a great ending, I hope this little pride continues to do well & stay safe. Thank you so much, Ricky🙌

It's called a happy ending, I'm glad for her💞and his three little ones💞It must not be easy for her to be alone, I hope that the Mazithi/Tshokwane watches over her and their young, hoping that there are more females there...on the other hand people should respect more the rules of the park, a lot of money is lost (fine), it's a shame, it would be very useful to kruger...
    Thank you for the video🙂

This is absolutely disgusting behavior to have all this traffic in wildlife areas. How many lions, lioness and cubs do they kill? Unbelievable and unbearable.

F'n people and their cars. I blame the park for allowing an excessive amount of vehicles in that impact the animals. This lioness almost lost one of her cubs because of all the vehicles......

Why are those damn motorists always creeping up to the lioness and cubs ever so soon when she is moving away from the vehicles?! They are just causing tension to these animals! The park wardens/rangers should try and control such bad acts that make animals in their natural habitat uncomfortable!

C’mon park authority, do your job to safeguard lionesses & their cubs in their habitat. Act on your conservation not CONS. Stop exploiting the lions & wildlife. Give them space, freedom & dignity. Come on tourists, learn something about lions & wildlife before visiting. Abide to rules & be respectful to these magnificent beings in their home. Stop subsisting on vacuity.

These rangers and tourist cars drivers are absolutely no respect and regards to these wild animals. Crowding the area with your stupid cars. Selfishness to the top.
