Fewer short passes is very interesting and it's shocking that it was just shrugged off like it's nothing. Previous Chelsea played it safe, often passing backwards and sideways with the shortest, safest passes possible out of fear of losing the ball. There were very few passes between the lines. Now Chelsea, while still wanting to keep possession, play riskier passes between the lines and longer switching passes to keep the opposition moving and losing shape. I would say that some of the obvious differences that might not show up in per 90 stats are 1) the way we come out for the second half. A lot of times we looked horrible in second halfs last season. 2) Maresca is much more likely to be decisive with his substitutions, he doesn’t wait too late and he isn’t bringing on defenders in the 60th minute to defend one goal leads. There were times where Poch brought on defenders when we were losing. 3) the goals and assists are being shared around more so far. Before Palmer scored his hat trick, he had only scored one goal and we were still among the top scorers in the league. 4) Thus far, Maresca has done well to manage player’s fitness, a large part of our issues last season came down to the fact that we couldn’t field our strongest XI.
Madueke will score more than 10 pl goals this season. All his goals have been assisted by Palmer or Enzo. Sancho is the balance between attack and midfield. Palmer is the orchestrator. Once Maresca figures out how to maximize his pivot, it could be over for everyone

I always find myself saying, “wow” at some point because he’s produced something magical. When it comes to Chelsea, the real test will be when teams start to deny space, like Forest.
Part of the reason Malo isn’t getting forward up the wing as much this year is the fact that Noni is playing winger on that side opposed to Palmer. Noni is going to run at the fullbacks and Palmer was always coming short and cutting in, he needed Gusto on the outside more

As a Chelsea fan that doesn't watch Serie A, is Osimehn that really a big of an upgrade over Jackson and/or Nkunku? In terms of finishing, I don't have to watch him to say that he's better than Jackson but over Nkunku I don't know. What Jackson brings that I appreciate is his link up, ability to carry the ball, and underrated physicality against physical Prem CBs. Hence my question.
@@dyoutube439 bro..... osimhen is miles better in finishing than nkunku and ofcourse over jackson... Dont know what "underrated physicality" you are talking about . You want to see one example of physicality just watch the napoli barca champions league first leg goal of osimhen , thats called using physicality to his advantage. + Aerily he is the best in the world , LITERALLY . He is also very fast . And you might question the link-up... at napoli he and kvara were the only attacking players , the others were holding midfielders , so he didnt get many goals , because he was the main source of Goal output . + i dont think we need our no.9 to have good link-up anyway , ( which osimhen has ) because rest or our players : palmer / gusto / sancho / madueke / nkunku are the masters of link-up and creation , we just need a deadly finisher uptop , and thats why osimhen at chelsea fits perfectly .
Maybe last season but this season, Madueke has massively improved, Jackson is still coming with goal contributions, Nkunku is consistently available, Neto and Sancho look bright on the wings, and let's not forget Félix who can help off the bench. That amount of attacking talent is more than enough for top 4 even without Palmer.

It's really clear that Liam has no idea how to assess Enzo. If you're using goal contributions, you're already far off it. Enzo is one of the most important and irreplaceable cogs in the system.
@@JPzizou less to do with Enzo's absence (who was forced to play with a hernia that required surgery for 8 months) and more due to Poch tweaking the tactical set up, which included: - inverting a fullback - playing Cole in the 10 - playing Misha and Noni on the wings after ignoring them for 7 months - playing Cucurella after ignoring him for 5 months - benching the 60 year old legs - benching Sterling Our current run of success has Enzo in it, so your point is poorly-taken and ignoring key context. The above six points are more or less still intact and we're still in an excellent run of form, the only differences are that Enzo is now captain in the team and we're creating and scoring more chances than we did under Poch. Maresca himself called Enzo irreplaceable, but I suppose that means nothing here.
@JPzizou it may of been because the system in place didn't utilise him like it has this season. We are definitely better than last year. But our midfield recruitment in Enzo and Caicedo is our biggest downfall. It’s takes two of them to do a job that should only take one, and even then lacks a lot. Really looking forward to Lavia and Viega taking their place soon.
@@mikeyminit5059 go watch the goals we’ve given up this season and how many either start or come from central areas. Caicedo should be the fullback that inverts for us
@@dlo11794 You suggesting we white flag our midfield after 7 games is reckless talk. What should happen is a readjustment imho. A positional switch btwn Enzo and Caicedo to start with. @@mikeyminit5059 I don’t really rate Enzo, he reminds me a lesser Jorginho, which we’ve already saw can give you games where you enjoy having him and others where he gets completely out ran in the midfield.
I’m curious to know why Palmer ‘shouldn’t’ be one of the best players in Europe?
Jon very quick to clarify that he is not a Chelsea fan, lol.
Palmer is good.. without him they’d be mid table again.
Lol.
We do have nkunku who has 1+goals/90mins this season . I feel a front 4 of Jackson / nkunku /neto / madueke will still get around 5th .
Thank God we have Palmer then...
Drogba and Lampard should not be compared to Jackson and Palmer.
I am a chelsea fan , and you guys are hyping us too much , lets see what we do in the next 2 months , we are against all top tier teams , Aston villa / arsenal / newcastle / (excluding ) united , liverpool . If we perform well against them and get decent amount of points , then we can talk about top 4
I know how you feel. The week every youtuber and journalist was jumping on the Arne Slot bandwagon, Liverpool lost their next game. 🤦♂️
@@Bleech606 that game gives me hope that , chelsea might be able to beat Lpool .
@@donmujtabanah bro, you aint a forest. Teams like forest who have a great, tactical defense can do it. chelsea are too open.
Forest had an answer last week
Discussing top 4 competitors , mentioning Brighton but not Manchester United lol😂
took Poch too long to figure it out & he opted for players like gallagher
Don’t slate Conor. He was a stalwart in midfield and the most consistent player last season. He was a good servant. Give him his flowers bro
Where can I find Liam's coffee mug?
Finally the question is being asked.
The answer is yes
"in behind" is not grammatically correct
Show was better when it was just Bull & McKenzie
Weren’t Chelsea third best team in 2024 last season? Anyone with a brain could have seen this coming especially when they spent even more money this summer
Need these guys on Sky sports doing analysis of games instead of clueless Neville and Carragher
Love it!
Their next 4 PL game will be decisive
If they play in low blocks Chelsea FC will load the midfield with two tens one eight one four. The team is also not so focused on winning the possessions always the first scenario happened with Wolves and the second happened with WestHam. We will pull through you can't expose Chelsea all through
So you're telling me there's more goals to be had 😁😁😁
It's really clear that Liam has no idea how to assess Enzo. If you're using goal contributions, you're already far off it.
Enzo is one of the most important and irreplaceable cogs in the system.
😂😂😂 why was cfc best run of form last season when enzo was out injured? 😂😂😂
@@JPzizou less to do with Enzo's absence (who was forced to play with a hernia that required surgery for 8 months) and more due to Poch tweaking the tactical set up, which included:
- inverting a fullback
- playing Cole in the 10
- playing Misha and Noni on the wings after ignoring them for 7 months
- playing Cucurella after ignoring him for 5 months
- benching the 60 year old legs
- benching Sterling
Our current run of success has Enzo in it, so your point is poorly-taken and ignoring key context.
And maybe poch didn't know because he didn't have time. maresca has a better idea, or at least has a plan which involves him( it's a big investment from the owners)We won't know until there's more results and more data
@PlayerAyte he wasn't forced to play🤣 he could have had surgery earlier but didn't.
He's such a burden that you couldn't change tactics like you could without.
We haven't played a good team yet and won with Enzo this season.... City and Notts a L and D. Real proof will be in our next fixtures vs lfc nufc thfc etc...
Enzo hasn't got a goal or assist in the PL yet even playing advanced... he's not an 8 and best at 6 but can't lace caicedos boots
@foregonegamer but the thingnis he has 0 g+a in PL and we haven't beaten teams with good defences like city or forest... tell me a game where he has played well vs a good team in PL pls
We will know what level chelsea is in the next 2 months ,and what level Enzo maresca is .
To be top 4 contenders , and challenging for the title next year , chelsea have to :
1) minimum draw against liverpool
2) beat Man united
3) beast newcastle
4) losing to arsenal is acceptable *in current circunstances* , but it shouldnt be a battering , minimum loss by 1 goal difference
5) minimum draw with aston villa
6) beat all the Conference league teams CONVINCINGLY
That is what is most likely happen.
Finish 4th this season. In the summer our recuitment is important. A Dm , a good goalkeeper and a box striker we should be a 90 pts team.
@@adedayooyegunju828 hope we get osimhen in january , and Petrovic kills it at Strasbourg ,and becomes no.1 GK at chelsea

This is podcast i wanted to see. I thought you guys at athletics hate Chelsea
Contenders for the 3rd and 4th positions these positions are : Chelsea / liverpool / Aston villa / Newcastle . Fight for 5th would be Spurs / Man united ( if they sack ten hag and get a top coach like Tuchel ) , and west ham ( if they sack their coach and get a top coach

Yes, they are.
No we have a good attack but only 1 consistent goal scorer, the midfield is i proving bur rubbish and defence i actually bad. GK is i.proving bur also crap.
Drewsbury hall signing still makes absolutely zero sense to me
Chelsea is back for now
We miss the german guy
The A team 🙏🏿
I love these guys! Thanks, Athletic!
Chrrently rhe one not injured lol
Great
We are definitely better than last year. But our midfield recruitment in Enzo and Caicedo is our biggest downfall. It’s takes two of them to do a job that should only take one, and even then lacks a lot. Really looking forward to Lavia and Viega taking their place soon.
Absolutely pathetic take and comment 🤦♂️
@@mikeyminit5059 go watch the goals we’ve given up this season and how many either start or come from central areas. Enzo just isn’t a great defender, also lacks the agility and reaction speed needed for the prem at high level moments. Caicedo positioning defensively is poor and gets caught wide far too often. Caicedo should be the fullback that inverts for us
@@dlo11794 You suggesting we white flag our midfield after 7 games is reckless talk. What should happen is a readjustment imho. A positional switch btwn Enzo and Caicedo to start with. Enzo playing higher up on the left side hasn't worked thus far. I'd prefer that he play deeper, receiving the ball from the back and dictating play. Caicedo as b2b. Less inverting from Gusto too. Allow him to mostly do what he does best which is bomb up/down the right flank wreaking havoc. But all this, I'm sure is being watched closely by the coach and will be addressed accordingly. No need to throw the baby out with the bath water just yet...
@@mikeyminit5059 I don’t really rate Enzo, he reminds me a lesser Jorginho, which we’ve already saw can give you games where you enjoy having him and others where he gets completely out ran in the midfield. I’m hoping Lavia or Viega who both I rate highly become a monster at DM where they just control the whole center of the park like a Paulinha few years back. Then we can play Caicedo as a full back and let him invert or even go to a 3 back and play Caicedo beside him. Then we could put out a really fun, creative, attacking side.
Nkunku
Sancho Felix Palmer Neto
Lavia/Viega Caicedo
Cucu Colwill Tosin
Enzo is not good as an 8. Cfc best run last year came when he was injured... its a big problem and better teams will exploit enzos wastfulness and poor physicality
I know arne slot is watching this in case he hasnt noticed anything lol
But lads, according to your pre-season analysis, we were supposed to be below United! How's that happened? Maybe you'll finally admit your biases towards us?

Arteta and Arsenal should do a Luis Suarez and offer £100M for Cole Palmer. Arsenal can win 4 ucls in a row.
I'm not even a Chelsea fan and I'm wondering why Chelsea would even consider accepting that offer lmao
Saliba+Saka+Trossard+Saka+100mil then we can think about that
@@2NDHALF14 We can’t give you Saka 2 times mate. Cole is a good player but isn’t worth 2 World Class players + 1 Elite Class player + 100 million. You can keep him.
@@2NDHALF14 tbh, that would probably still only get you one leg of Palmer.
We saw Grealish go for £100m and u expect that they would accept that? We have seen less talent players with less influence go for that price not to mention the English tax. They sold Mount with 1yr left on his deal for 60m, Palmer with 9yr left? No need to even bother unless he himself pushes for a move incase Man United become good as he's a childhood fan of theirs
