Fewer short passes is very interesting and it's shocking that it was just shrugged off like it's nothing. Previous Chelsea played it safe, often passing backwards and sideways with the shortest, safest passes possible out of fear of losing the ball. There were very few passes between the lines. Now Chelsea, while still wanting to keep possession, play riskier passes between the lines and longer switching passes to keep the opposition moving and losing shape. It also relates to counter attacks, and we've seen Chelsea go from their own box to the opposition's box within 3 or 4 direct passes regularly this season. It's a key stat and shouldn't have been dismissed as it was in this podcast.
@@altibzzThat's the entire point of switching Palmer centrally. He wants Neto, Mudryk and Noni on the wings. And don't be surprised if Sancho plays centrally a few times. I think Sancho is the balance on the wings between pace, creativity and control.
Maresca built that up as it was Chelsea's biggest strength under Poch. Poch's entire attacking philosophy was literally to get the ball in the final thrid ASAP, without just smacking it brexit style. I'm glad he built on it instead of scrapping it to start from zero. Now we seem to have the directness characteristic to Poch retained, but a lot more control and better rest defence.

Positive start. Whats interesting about Maresca is he isnt as tactically stubborn as everyone assumed he'd be. Big tests to come but Chelsea fans can be Positive about the start of the season
I think Maresca's handling of Chelsea's fitness has been overlooked. He's not rushed or risked the injury prone players of last season. Nkunku has been fit since preseason but hasn't started a single premier league game bc Maresca knows he hasn't needed him to start high intensity prem games yet. So he's kept him injury free until crunch time. Watch Nkunku start prem games in November. I swear you're going to see it. Maresca is trying to ensure he has his best players and options available when things get tougher. If they stay fit and click, he's going to shock people.
@@Mubabaz254 we should do better against the bigger teams technically because of how we play and want open teams and we can counter only thing is our execution and maturity against these teams
Great concern but I think Maresca is tactically stubborn. I believe we will see a couple of sides of this Chelsea team with each drilled tactically different from the next. The kind of players they have, their attributes, allows you options in relation to how you're gonna deploy tactically. The bench is strong and very much so technically gifted. With time as Maresca gets to know each player more, and players are integrated into the idea, the more options and tactical flexibility we'll see.
I would say that some of the obvious differences that might not show up in per 90 stats are 1) the way we come out for the second half. A lot of times we looked horrible in second halfs last season. 2) Maresca is much more likely to be decisive with his substitutions, he doesn’t wait too late and he isn’t bringing on defenders in the 60th minute to defend one goal leads. There were times where Poch brought on defenders when we were losing. 3) The goals and assists are being shared around more so far. Before Palmer scored his hat trick, he had only scored one goal and we were still among the top scorers in the league. 4) Thus far, Maresca has done well to manage player’s fitness, a large part of our issues last season came down to the fact that we couldn’t field our strongest XI.
Madueke will score more than 10 pl goals this season. All his goals have been assisted by Palmer or Enzo. Sancho is the balance between attack and midfield. Palmer is the orchestrator. Once Maresca figures out how to maximize his pivot, it could be over for everyone

I’m a Chelsea fan. Too many of us are getting carried away. Our ‘form’ won’t last. We’ve beaten a couple of awful sides while leaking loads of goals, and couldn’t beat Palace or Forest at home. Maresca was hired to bring his galaxy brain tactics from Leicester. He tried it in pre season and we got spanked, so he ditched whatever ‘system’ he was trying to implement. He’s now just playing caretaker tactics (lob it over the top for Jackson to chase) with an imbalanced, bloated squad. Our midfielders can’t win a header or cover large spaces. Our set piece stats are almost worst in the league. Our keepers are bang average. We don’t press. Nkunku isn’t allowed to start a premier league game because he was bought by the previous sporting director. We’ve signed so many nothing players (Neto, Felix, KDH, etc) that Cobham gems like Acheampong and George won’t get a look in. We’ll know if we’re any good when we play Liverpool , United, Newcastle and Arsenal in the next month. But I can see things unraveling quite quickly. Not Maresca’s fault. Our sporting directors made the bed - he’s just sleeping in it.
The Chelsea situation is great. Pep has the most complex tactical system in the world. Chelsea now have Pep’s tactics, the tactics from the greatest tactician in football history. You now have a modern tactician who is capable to divide a tactics into thousands of pieces, coach them into his players, and play a tactical chess game. You have bought a lot of skillful/silky/tekky/creative/possession loving/skill moves capable/tiki taka capable players like Felix, Neto and Palmer. Chelsea fans don’t have to watch boring, direct, defensive, hoof ball anymore.
Chelsea need an osimhen ( a physical no.9 ) to break down low-blocks , jackson goes silent against low-blocks , Palace and forest games, being prime examples , now imagine a low-block of Arsenal / man city / liverpool / real madrid
Yes, they have not yet started reaping the benefits of having set-piece specialist in their attacking phase but you can see how well it’s working for them defensively. As a Chelsea fan, I’m more confident with the team when defending set pieces. Not perfect. But you can tell they have been working on it. And for me, I’m okay with that. For now, with the attacking players we have, we can find other solutions to create chances. Then, eventually, as the team puts in more work in their training sessions they’ll get better. As the coach keeps reminding the media every time, he’s only been at the helm for a few weeks. In time I’m sure we will see more improvement. I’m sure of it.
I think you guys just said okay Palmer is good and Marseca said this in a coaches voice video a year ago. I think the system he is playing is quite different to what he was playing in Leicester City (which is pretty much the system you guys keep “explaining”). I think this is just a half asses video where you didn’t do any research on what is actually going on except - “Palmer good”
I actually think we have the tools for opening up low blocks, Sancho excels in tight spaces, using 1-2s to create space, Palmer is clearly no slouch in such situations either. He has a good understanding with Noni (England U21s etc) I think the issue is Enzo isn’t comfortable higher up the pitch on the left hand side. Ideally we need someone who can work in the half spaces and not convinced Jackson is suited to it, he doesn’t take those half chances on a regular enough basis.
That Liverpool matchup should be super fun. I can see a ton of goals. I think this team will hate facing Arsenal, Villa and City. A little too much physicality
So Spurs can challenge Chelsea for top 4, but Newcastle & Brighton who've both beat Spurs and had better starts to the season can't... Definitely no big 6 biased logic on display there
Can’t believe you lot have been doing the Tifo podcast all season on the podcast feed and never told us! Happy it’s back but I’ve missed months of shows!
Colwill, Cucurella, and Gusto played for any middle table team like Newcastle, Villa, or Spurs people would be rating them as one of a dark horses for top 6 btw.
14:31 I think the system choice itself is inherently flawed with this group of players. When fit, James and Chilwell are amongst the best wide men in Europe. Gusto is useful out wide with his pace too. Every winger we have aside from Pedro Neto inverts, and he doesn't start most games. He also played either on the right wing or as a "10" in a 3421 at Wolves, even if he's more like a traditional winger than anyone else at the club and he is left footed. Madueke doesn't have a right foot and has as many right footed crosses sent out of play this season as goals and assists combined. Mudryk is just... fast. It'd be great if he just hugged the touchline, but I've seen him closer to the middle of the pitch than Fernández at times. And Fernández is another problem - he's occupying spaces he shouldn't just to make up the numbers in the system. He's a progressive passer who defends in volume and isn't particularly mobile, creative or good at scoring. Why is he constantly high up? It's almost like you should only have fullbacks stay back if they're defensive, and wingers stay wide if they're actually wingers rather than wannabe inside forwards. We've played against poor teams so far (or those who just didn't engage us), Palmer is on fire but may not be available constantly, and Jackson is somehow still not meeting expectations in front of goal. The midfield is fragile without Gallagher doing thankless shielding work, and the donkeys at the back keep playing themselves into trouble. Sánchez is bipolar in terms of shot stopping too. We've also only got results when Maresca ditches his possession obsession and play more direct, but he'll eventually circle back to it and we'll start underperforming in front of goal and getting countered again. There's no way this run of relatively good form is sustainable unless Palmer somehow keeps scoring and creating more than we allow the opposition to.
Whoa Palmer is the second tallest player in our starting 11? That’s wild lol for such a tall guy, he moves kinda effortlessly, really great feet, opposite of Kai Havertz who I never saw dribble past a single player in his entire time at Chelsea
I am a chelsea fan , and you guys are hyping us too much , lets see what we do in the next 2 months , we are against all top tier teams , Aston villa / arsenal / newcastle / (excluding ) united , liverpool . If we perform well against them and get decent amount of points , then we can talk about top 4
You think Chelsea's biggest competitor for 4th is Tottenham? So not Villa who have been the 4th best team in the league since Emery walked in the door?
We've had a good start but so far the only challenging team we've dealt with was City. Also if we don't find a way to break low block teams like Palace and Forest we're not gonna finish top 4.
The idea that Chelsea should find a way to break down low block teams is quite amusing to me.... If you watch Chelsea against low block team you will see at least 3 or more times the cut them open but being clinical enough to take advantage of the little chances they get as against higher press teams which they are likely to get more than 5 chances..
When poch joined chelsea, people said we were back and now looking at the same thing happening again it’s worrying. I’m not saying we arent back its just scary at the thought of going back to that terrible chelsea team.
Maybe. But definitely not Osimhen. I wonder why ppl over rate that guy! Other than finishing (not by much), Jackson is way better. If there's a striker to go out there and get, it'll have to be Gyokeres...
@@mikeyminit5059If you think he is only about scoring then why is haaland Rated very high because I don't get,you can read his statement about having a Striker of oshinmen built that can intimidate defender which Jackson lacks which is understandable from his point of view...If you think oshinmen is only about scoring then you need to watch the season he won Napoli title and see the link up between oshinmen and that Georgia winger to understand him better because clearly you don't brr
Maybe last season but this season, Madueke has massively improved, Jackson is still coming with goal contributions, Nkunku is consistently available, Neto and Sancho look bright on the wings, and let's not forget Félix who can help off the bench. That amount of attacking talent is more than enough for top 4 even without Palmer.
right now its looking far better than i expected but my concerns are: - the inconsistent goalkeeper who sometimes has a football IQ of a rat. investing in petrovic seemed like a sensible thing to do. he is miles better. - the defence. we are far from having a saliba/gabriel kind of defence. i am more interested in a tosin/colwill pairing tbh. - the underutilisation of enzo. i think he has the capabilities to be a fabregas instead of a de bryne. idk how meresca can solve this bc i understand his full-back inverting tactic. - jackson. idk man, i just don't have the patience for his lack of being clinical or decision-making in front of goal. yes his playmaking abilities during the attack gives him an edge over nkunku, but we all know nkunku is the better finisher. - lastly. i get we are the most entertaining club rn but damn, focus on other clubs. man u is crumbling, focus on that.
Hot take and probably too spicy for you to say because of reactionary football fans, but I’m convinced no one is getting more out of their potential than Palmer. Maybe ever, or just since Gary Neville. Like his underlying qualities bar finishing and decision making don’t seem too intrinsic or obvious
Weren’t Chelsea third best team in 2024 last season? Anyone with a brain could have seen this coming especially when they spent even more money this summer
We will know what level chelsea is in the next 2 months ,and what level Enzo maresca is . To be top 4 contenders , and challenging for the title next year , chelsea have to : 1) minimum draw against liverpool 2) beat Man united 3) beast newcastle 4) losing to arsenal is acceptable *in current circunstances* , but it shouldnt be a battering , minimum loss by 1 goal difference 5) minimum draw with aston villa 6) beat all the Conference league teams CONVINCINGLY
That is what is most likely happen. Finish 4th this season. In the summer our recuitment is important. A Dm , a good goalkeeper and a box striker we should be a 90 pts team.
@@drthvdr2802 why not though ? This ownership bought him , only last year and he is on a long contract , if he performs very well in Ligue 1 i dont understand , why he can not come back and be chelsea's no.1 ,seeing how sanchez is so unconsistent .

At least they admit towards the end they were very wrong about chelsea. Idk how they could be so cynical based on the players, poch really fooled a lot of ppl with his terrorist tactics
I love how you just dealt with Villas chances of top 4 by saying they have european football. Haha. Like Villa didnt play 14 games in europe last year, and Chelsea, Spurs etc arent in europe this year.
Its delusion to say palmer compares to halaand rn. Palmer has 11 goal contributions and 8 of which came from 2 games. Halaand is contributing every game. Stop this BS. We lost to West Ham and wolves and almost every body where was your comment then
Here is the English arrogance again 😂😂
You'd say a different tune if the other reality hits
We would've lost or drawn these games last season
last year we would have lost half those games.
Miss the pod as always. I'll be in favour of more intl breaks if it means more classic pod

Need these guys on Sky sports doing analysis of games instead of clueless Neville and Carragher
I've been waiting for this!
As always my left ear very much enjoyed Phil Hay's contribution
11:31 I spat my tea out at Joe's reaction to the noises
So Spurs can challenge Chelsea for top 4, but Newcastle & Brighton who've both beat Spurs and had better starts to the season can't... Definitely no big 6 biased logic on display there
@red-d6g No, it’s just they’re not applying actual logic to their reasoning & the whole point of this show is to do that?
I'm over here thinking why they don't think Villa can reach top 4. They have a good squad and a proven manager.
@maximumpotential3796 Top 4 is between Villa and Chelsea. Forgot Newcastle Brighton and Spurs
@@patricktinashe2812 Mate it’s 7 games in and Brighton & Newcastle are 2pts off Chelsea & Villa. Way too early to be narrowing it down like that
@@hjc9912 fairs..
Regarding the CL discussion at the end, the math is mathing the right way for Chelsea and Tottenham with England's UEFA coefficient
Can’t believe you lot have been doing the Tifo podcast all season on the podcast feed and never told us!
Happy it’s back but I’ve missed months of shows!
Long story short; we have a League winning atttack with a relegation battle defence
our only defence at the moment is to out score our opponent 😂
Relegation battle? Chill
Colwill, Cucurella, and Gusto played for any middle table team like Newcastle, Villa, or Spurs people would be rating them as one of a dark horses for top 6 btw.
Chelsea have conceded the same amount of goals as Man City and 2 more than Arsenal.
It’s been to easy for opposing teams to get into our box
"Yes. But not by much. Probably would have been at the same place even with Pochettino." The end.
I love how Mark Noble is listening so intently to Liam 😂
Where's the video on the Tuchel England appointment? Chop, chop, boys!
the good ‘ol Athletic FC jinx 🎉
I am a chelsea fan , and you guys are hyping us too much , lets see what we do in the next 2 months , we are against all top tier teams , Aston villa / arsenal / newcastle / (excluding ) united , liverpool . If we perform well against them and get decent amount of points , then we can talk about top 4
I know how you feel. The week every youtuber and journalist was jumping on the Arne Slot bandwagon, Liverpool lost their next game. 🤦♂️
@@Bleech606 that game gives me hope that , chelsea might be able to beat Lpool .
@@donmujtabanah bro, you aint a forest. Teams like forest who have a great, tactical defense can do it. chelsea are too open.
I will take all the hype as compared to the hate we had coming our way last season. Even betting odds were discouraging eh😂
@@nico-lasty but guess what , at the end of the season , chelsea will finish much higher than forest , so your argument is baseless
You think Chelsea's biggest competitor for 4th is Tottenham?
So not Villa who have been the 4th best team in the league since Emery walked in the door?
You forgot the mention Viega as a set piece difference maker as he gets minutes into the season. He will be this years Gallagher for the team.
400 had joined before that ? 😮 bruh we heard that 😂
We've had a good start but so far the only challenging team we've dealt with was City.
But we found a way to break them down! Tf u talkin bout?!
@@roysiw-quansahThis exactly! Dunno what up top mop top is talkin bout!

When poch joined chelsea, people said we were back and now looking at the same thing happening again it’s worrying. I’m not saying we arent back its just scary at the thought of going back to that terrible chelsea team.
I’ll let you know if they’re good come Christmas
This is better than soccer am
Chelsea needs an intimidating striker like Osimhen to give a different dimensional problem to low block(bus parking) teams
Maybe. But definitely not Osimhen. I wonder why ppl over rate that guy! Other than finishing (not by much), Jackson is way better. If there's a striker to go out there and get, it'll have to be Gyokeres...
Please not Osimhen.
Guy he isn't overated and I will comfortably say he is better than victor @@mikeyminit5059
@@mikeyminit5059Just say you don't like oshinmen bro
@@mikeyminit5059If you think he is only about scoring then why is haaland Rated very high because I don't get,you can read his statement about having a Striker of oshinmen built that can intimidate defender which Jackson lacks which is understandable from his point of view...If you think oshinmen is only about scoring then you need to watch the season he won Napoli title and see the link up between oshinmen and that Georgia winger to understand him better because clearly you don't brr
Palmer is good.. without him they’d be mid table again.
Lol.
We do have nkunku who has 1+goals/90mins this season . I feel a front 4 of Jackson / nkunku /neto / madueke will still get around 5th .
Thank God we have Palmer then...
Where can I find Liam's coffee mug?
Palmer is 1.85m, not 1.89. In the last team photo he is clearly smaller than Jackson.
15:45 was beautiful
The underlying numbers Jon!
where are they!?
6 gamess and the media mafia is at it again 😂
right now its looking far better than i expected but my concerns are:
- the inconsistent goalkeeper who sometimes has a football IQ of a rat. investing in petrovic seemed like a sensible thing to do. he is miles better.
I will wait till the end of October before I judge this team, KTBFFH

I miss JJ bull. What channel is he on? A lost my subscriptions on RUclips & need to find his channel again.
Guys were complaining about no chelsea talk as well
Hot take and probably too spicy for you to say because of reactionary football fans, but I’m convinced no one is getting more out of their potential than Palmer. Maybe ever, or just since Gary Neville. Like his underlying qualities bar finishing and decision making don’t seem too intrinsic or obvious
Weren’t Chelsea third best team in 2024 last season? Anyone with a brain could have seen this coming especially when they spent even more money this summer
Liverpool are in for a whopping
Theyll say liverpool had a bad day if we do
We will know what level chelsea is in the next 2 months ,and what level Enzo maresca is .
To be top 4 contenders , and challenging for the title next year , chelsea have to :
1) minimum draw against liverpool
2) beat Man united
3) beast newcastle
4) losing to arsenal is acceptable *in current circunstances* , but it shouldnt be a battering , minimum loss by 1 goal difference
5) minimum draw with aston villa
6) beat all the Conference league teams CONVINCINGLY
That is what is most likely happen.
Finish 4th this season. In the summer our recuitment is important. A Dm , a good goalkeeper and a box striker we should be a 90 pts team.
@@adedayooyegunju828 hope we get osimhen in january , and Petrovic kills it at Strasbourg ,and becomes no.1 GK at chelsea

Eyyy I don't have to click off this time.
After spending 1.3bn in 2 years, truly an underdog story..
Not good enough to beat City, yet.
The defence needs to get a lot better and the strikers more consistent.

At least they admit towards the end they were very wrong about chelsea. Idk how they could be so cynical based on the players, poch really fooled a lot of ppl with his terrorist tactics
Arsenal interferes with the keeper on every set piece. Chelsea should just do the same until the league changes their officiating policy.
Finally the question is being asked.
The answer is yes
This is one of the best london centric squads every assembled
Bro is going at 2x speed, slow down
“Best teams in the world and Everton” that was insulting 😅😅😅
as a Chelsea fan Malo Gusto is so class palmer is our best player but gusto is up there
Agreed
These guys talking about Forest like they didn’t beat Liverpool already this season.
I’m curious to know why Palmer ‘shouldn’t’ be one of the best players in Europe?
I love how you just dealt with Villas chances of top 4 by saying they have european football. Haha. Like Villa didnt play 14 games in europe last year, and Chelsea, Spurs etc arent in europe this year.
Drogba and Lampard should not be compared to Jackson and Palmer.
Its delusion to say palmer compares to halaand rn. Palmer has 11 goal contributions and 8 of which came from 2 games. Halaand is contributing every game. Stop this BS. I used to love this player and now its ruining it bc everyone is overglazing him. He was this good since his city games its just that he didnt have the playing time.
