Love the cleaner when it works. Had 2 .One lasted 3 years ,the last one 14 months. If you ate willing to spend a grand every year & a half it is a decent machine.
Hi Serge. It’s nice to hear from someone who has had these robots for many years. What model did u have for 3 years? Any idea what caused it to fail? Did u try replacing any parts? They have a 3 year warranty so the one that lasted 14 months you should be able to ship back for $20 and have them repair or replace it.
@fixitwithjake both were dolphin proteus dx4 . Noone can tell me what's wrong with them. The power supply is good, nothing Is plugged up or anything. Looks to me like the computer components might be fried.
The DX5i has a "FLOOR ONLY" quick clean option. Does the DX4 have this also? It looked like the DX4 also had this, but couldn't tell.
Looks like you kinda answered this below. So the buttons were "dummy" buttons. On the DX5i it does FLOOR ONLY QUICK CLEAN. FYI
Thanks for the review but might be better to compare robotics to other robotic cleaners and not a suction side cleaner.
We have the Dx5i is now saying it cannot connect. Where is the reset button that I’m hearing about?

Great review! I'm still debating whether to buy this model or the Dolphin nautilus cc plus, I hear both struggle to clean the steps , and I have bar stools to worry about also.
Both are very good! But the Dx4 has an active brush to scrub away algae, the bc does not. Other then that, they are very comparable!

Both probably won't climb up and focus on the steps. Sometimes it reaches them and sometimes it does not. I use my pole brush to quickly clean the steps. The debris will fall down and the robot will pick it up. The CC is also a good model too: amzn.to/3ROXM69
At a previous job they asked me to plug a dolphin into a normal plug socket and then place the dolphin in the pool 😮 I didn’t think this was safe at all! As far as I could see it was a normal electrical socket. Is this safe?
It is possible that that outlet is tied to another GFCI protected outlet nearby. But, no, not safe unless the outlet is protected in this manner. You can buy a $5 GFCI tester. You plug it in, press a button and it will let you know if the outlet is safe to use and protected by a GFCI. Home inspectors like to use these to test outlets around a home.
Just bought this DX4. Trying to figure out the timer. Is #1, a cycle once a day for 7 days? So it will run a cycle ever day for seven days then shut off? Also, if I pull it out and clean the basket durning the 7 day cycle then put the cleaner back in the water will it continue with the program without messing up the program? And if I start it at 8am will it start its cleaning everyday at 8am? Thanks for the help. Looking all over for videos to answer my questions and you had a very good video and hope you could help.
Congrats. I think you are interpreting the buttons correctly. The first light will run one cycle every day for seven days and then it will need to be started again. It will always do the next cycle at the exact same time you initiated the cleaning the first time. So just like you said if you want it every day at 8 AM then start it at 8 AM. I would run your robot around the same time that your filter is running so that if it kicks up dust and debris in the water filter will be more likely to capture that and filter it out. If the robot is taken out of the water for cleaning and put back in it will not disrupt the programming and cycles. In fact I was surprised that he tried to start cleaning one time when I left it out and it drove itself into the pool. I’ll be sure to unplug it if you plan to leave it out of the pool for a long time. I am currently experimenting with a small battery operated SwitchBot. Those little devices that will stick to anything and press a button. And that way I can program my Robot to come on at a specific time every day so I don’t I have to reset it after seven days. Also it works via Bluetooth so if I’m at least 30 feet away I can start or stop by Robot. I will report back when I know it works well or not. Let us know how the robot works for you
is it ok to keep it in the water? I am just worried if its hard to retrieve from the pool
The manual has conflicting information. It does say that it’s allowed to stay in the pool but in another location it says it should be removed after each use and during string chemical changes. I am confident that it can stay in the pool for a year or two. But I think after that time the chlorine will start to take a toll on the plastics and the rubber cable. So as long as you’re OK with replacing it on year two or three, you probably can no problem. Now, if you take it out after each use, it will likely last significantly longer if it’s not out in the chlorine in the sun. I’d imagine easily 5+ years for year around use like me.

They are dummy buttons on this model. The company uses the same control box for higher end models. These buttons operate functions that are available if you a pay a little more $ for the next models up. On this model they do nothing. Does that help?

I’m having trouble with my dolphin e10 , it’s getting stuck on the round filter on the bottom of the pool , it will get stuck and spin in circles.. im thinking about ordering the robot your using , your get stuck as well even though they claim it doesn’t
I have two round drains on bottom that sticks up slightly. So far no issues with it getting stuck……
I don't understand where it gets power. Do you plug directly into the wall? Is that safe?
You plug it into the wall or many pools have any outdoor outlet by the pool equipment pad or elsewhere. You can use an outdoor rated extension cord if you need more length. It is safe bc you plug it into a GFCI-protected outlet. Those outlets with a little reset button on them. They are designed to cut off the power immediately if water or a short is detected. The control box takes the dangerous 120v and steps it down to a lower safe voltage. The blue cable in pool is the lower safer voltage. So if you were to have a leak or cut in the blue cable it is safe and certified to be safe and would not hurt you.
@@fixitwithjake Jake you need to brush up on your electricity if you are going to give advise. A transformer does not step down AC to DC. AC is converted to DC through a rectifier, which is contained in that power supply. Under normal conditions it is safe but is is possible to get electrocuted? Absolutely it is. They don't call them dead shorts for nothing. BTW you can also get electrocuted if you have your iphone plugged into the wall and it falls into the bath tub. Bottom line. Take the cleaner out of the pool if anyone is using it. Hope this helps Lacey B.
Thanks. I’ve very aware and have a background in ⚡️ electricity. I purposefully use plain language to simplify things for people. If I used terms such as TRU, transformer rectifier unit, most people wouldn’t understand. I’m working to bridge a gap. Direct from the owner’s manual if the device. Don’t enter the pool while the device is working. In other words you wouldn’t wanna run the robot and swim at the same time because you’re applying electricity to the device. But if the device is sitting and not operating and no DC electricity being applied to it then it is safe to swim in the water. Especially if you use an outdoor wifi switch to cut off the power. There’s a multiple step safety system at work. First off, there’s a GFCI, second the units power is off, third, the unit operates on low voltage. Lastly, most people will remove/unplug the device from the pool while swimming, bc it gets in the way 🏊♂️.

No. Doesn’t reliably climb up and clean each step. You’ll need to brush off the steps. But it also doesn’t claim that it does that in the advertising.
