I love walnuts so might make this soup. I've never had it. Maybe use my chicken broth. Like the addition of lemon. I've often added a tiny splash of good vinegar at the end of cooking soup. The acid brings out the other flavors.

👍👍👍....wenn man cremige Suppen mag, wahrscheinlich eine leckere Sache. Für mich ist das nichts...! Ich habe noch nie von einer Walnussuppe gehört.
    Liebe Grüße aus Osthessen.. Caroline....😊😊😊

Hi! My German stepmother made a dish she called godoobel (spelling?) and glaze. I’m sorry I certainly butchered the spelling. Are you familiar with the dish? It’s made with potatoes, dumplings, sour cream, onions, and probably lots of butter. Fond memory of my childhood.

I’m afraid nothing comes to my mind from your description. It might be a very local dish.

I was curious so I asked ChatGPT-3.5 about your comment and it suggested this:
It sounds like you might be referring to "Gulasch" and "Klöße" (dumplings) or "Goulash" and "Knödel" in German. Gulasch is a stew, often made with beef, onions, and paprika, among other ingredients. It can be served with various side dishes, and one common accompaniment is Klöße or Knödel, which are types of dumplings.
The dish you described with potatoes, dumplings, sour cream, onions, and butter might be a variation of this traditional German meal. The potato component could be either boiled or mashed potatoes, depending on the specific recipe. The use of sour cream and butter is not uncommon in German cuisine, adding richness and flavor to the dish.
It's also possible that your stepmother had her own unique twist on a traditional recipe, creating a family favorite. If you have the chance, you might want to ask her directly for the recipe or any specific details about how she prepared the dish.

Several of my friends are allergic to almonds, so could I just use more walnuts in its place or is there something else to use in the place of almonds?

What does the cheese add to this? I wonder if I could substitute something to keep it vegan

You can definitely use something like vegan cream instead.

If one thinks of a pesto, which can be another combination of nuts and cheese, this Walnut soup combination may seem more familiar.
