Something you may want to consider for your scavenger hunt is how children who are in childcare will participate. My childcare teachers have to find the items for the children, sanitize them, and then collect the items and sanitize them again. Unfortunately, the children can't search our childcare programs because they have to remain at or around their desks. Sometimes, we don't have the items (like ice cubes). Obviously, this doesn't have to be considered if none of your students will be in childcare.
We're trying our best to provide an experience that is similar to those learning at home, and we completely understand that this is already so difficult for the public school teachers. We're finding that we can be successful with a lot of communication and trying our best.

I overthink what I add in my planner, and hearing you and watching your thought process helps me see how to plan efficiently. The scavenger hunt is a fantastic idea to get the students moving! I will add this activity to my virtual school.
I use a mind mapping app called Mind Map Pro to plan all my classes. I have like a central page with all my classes, and when I click on a class it takes me to the planning mindmap of that particular class, where everything is organised hierarchically from the term, to month, to week, to each day. I hide whatever I don't need any more, and I only have "open" the part I am working on at that moment. I'll have it open on the board so the kids can see where we're at and what we're going to do as well.
I was trying to think of how to explain it, but it's more difficult than I thought without showing a picture. Anyway, it keeps me very organised and it's really easy to drop and drag stuff or to make any changes when unexpected things happen, as they often do at my school.

I've been digital planning for three years and I love it. We are going back face to face. However, we are being told to be ready to go remote anytime. So, we are pretty much day by day and it's annoying.

Wow, I am very impressed with what you're planning for incoming 4th graders! I teach HS in the same county as you and we were told "not to assume the students know how to do 'xyz' "
I'm in the same boat! I teach high school in Texas, and my district said, 'Don't assume your students know how to do things like copy and paste or use Google Forms." I understand that we don't want to leave students behind or discourage them, but I was surprised by how basic my district wants us to be in the first few weeks.

I love this. We also start next week (I teach 6th) and Our district actually told us not to do content the first week (I'm math inclusion). We were told not to expect students to know how to do anything with tech, so we have to explicitly teach all the different tech stuff we want them to know how to do. This is also my student's first year in middle school so they have to figure out switching from class to class. I feel so bad for them and it's going to be really difficult, but I'm thankful my district decided to be virtual to keep our community safe.
I started watching you as a sophomore in high school you inspired me and helped me find my love for teaching! I am now a junior in college in my professional semester of elementary education
We do planning through a Google Doc which is even quicker! The whole team can share the same google doc, can type into it and can make a copy if they need to add personal details.
That’s great that system works for you! I love having my own digital planner so EVERYTHING is in one place including student info, account info, etc. 👍🏼

I wish there were more teachers like you who build the classroom community in the first week because that never happened for me when I was going through elementary school (all my teachers were doing content the first week). Thank you for the vision board idea! I just downloaded one and am going to work on it with my students between this week and next week :) I'm teaching 7th grade special ed science this year (previously have just taught gen ed science), so I'm really looking for those connections to be established early on! Not to mention, I felt SO overwhelmed yesterday but I saw your other video and was like "if she's feeling the same way, then I know it's normal!" Thank you for putting out meaningful and relatable content! Even though I teach middle school, there is a lot of similarities!

Thanks so much for sharing this! I am quite intrigued as I have only ever used a paper planner and in reality never found one that was the right fit - so to speak. I have two jobs at my school. One the reading specialist and the other the librarian. My day is broken down into 1/2 units and I always need to take notes about a student or an idea I got that would help with a book that I just read. Am I able to break it up into the 1/2 hour units in your planner and am I able to add notes that would go with a specific time slot? Thanks so much.

Hi Michelle, love all your videos. I bought your planner and I am glad I did. I accidentally got rid of the copy and paste feature. The lasso worked at first, but I inadvertently clicked on a pop up which asked me if I want to use zoom features, I think. Anyway, can you please explain how to bring it back. Thanks!
I have a google slide where kids have to move their name to what zone they are (zones of regulation). Do you have a video where you show how I can create it how they can move their name without resizing, flipping it, changing the text, etc.?

We will be releasing new planners every year... the style will stay the same but we will update the dates!

Quizizz is a website where you can create interactive games/quizzes for students. Way more interactive than Google Forms!
