  • The i20 N offers a nice package. It has 5 doors, a good 352 liter boot, reasonable space for passengers, and comes as standard with LED headlights and 18" wheels. It can easily be used every day for the home-office route, dampening its sporty spirits through the driving modes, which, as we will see, offer an unparalleled level of customisation.
Enjoy our video test drive of Hyundai i20 N.

I've had this car for over a year now and wanna say something regarding this.
The 3 default drive modes that got carried over from the regular i20 feel like a total leftover and just feel wrong to drive in the I20n. The standard drive setting feels like driving a boat, the rev hang and throttle lag is insanely bad. Engine power on level 2 is the minimum setting for me to make this car feel right.
Regarding the ECO mode, it doesn't do anything to save fuel economy but even increases it, because it adds more torque to every pedal press (and for some reason removes auto rev matching and manually rev matching with the immense throttle lag is just bad).
Fuel economy depends on how you drive and not what setting you're on. You can do 4,5l to 5l easily on a highway in the regular sport or any N mode.
I 'downgraded' from a Civic Type R FK8 (2018) and this car is superior to the Civic in every way possible (apart from top speed)

      Very good points.
I've had the car for 4 months now and found that the eco mode is total crap, I never use it. I never tried the regular sport mode. I only use normal mode (with rev matching always) in the city traffic jams or when driving around the dense city areas where you really need to drive slowly and carefully and there is no use for the N mode power. Other than that, N mode always cause that is what the car was built for.
The Type R you had is my most favorite Type R, I am surprised that you deem i20N superior to it. 😎

@@siegfriedo The regular sports mode is pretty much every setting set to level 2.
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to drive slowly and carefully in N mode, and I'm talking about a custom setting, not the regular N mode.
Being in a custom mode with the engine level set to 2 is my most used mode, even in dense traffic.
Regarding the Type R: I've had it from 2020 to 2023, had it wrapped in black/yellow, Remus exhaust and all that (even have a vid of it on my channel). The car looks amazing designwise, but was really a pain in the ass to drive in cities. I live in a big city and my main commute was through city traffic. The car is long af, turn radius is horrible and with those 20 inch wheels you were afraid of hitting every curb.
Being a 35000€ car, it had barely any comfort features; no heated seats, steering wheel, laggy infotainment. The i20N even has heated seats in the back and the infotainment is a night and day difference. The cup holders were nicer in the Civic though, you could fit a whole coffee thermos mug under the armrest.
The i20N being a smaller car is also more fun to drive for me (in city traffic). It's much more maneuverable than the Civic.
Yes, the Civic looks a lot cooler and I miss it (some idiot crashed into me and pretty much totaled it), but having owned both cars, I prefer the i20N.

@@Lexartm I agree you CAN drive in the city on custom N mode. I just like how soft and cushy all the responses are in the normal mode whenever I find myself in a dense traffic. But when I want to make myself heard then (custom) N mode it is, even the city traffic. 😁👍
Sorry to hear your type R was f*cked up like that. It really is a cool looking car and I agree if you need a car also as a daily for the city, type R is not a good choice given its specs.

@@siegfriedo It is. Just because a car is fast, it doesn't mean that you have to go fast. I rarely drive over 100 km/h on my i20n even on highways. Being in N mode doesn't mean that you have to drive fast. It's just really comfortable for throttle response and getting the car to drive off because of the horrible throttle response.
