While DMC and SMT are both very different types of games, I do still think it's really neat how they got Dante to specifically be in Nocturne, seeing as he's technically half demon half human, it makes for a pretty neat pearler to the Demi-Fiend. Also, hearing that Atlus staff were feeling that gaming was getting stagnant around the PS2 era is really really funny, considering how much worse that issue is now, with many looking at the PS2 era as really creative these days
One thing that made Dante really work as a character in Nocturne is the fact that in this world, where everyone is on a specturm of angry, depressed, scared and greedy, Dante seems to be the only one enjoying himself. He doesn't care about the world or its politics, he is just having a blast in the apocalypse with his guns and sword. Going around, challenging people to fights, jumping off buildings, killing monsters. He is a very relaxed and fun character in a game, where every character that isnt a manakin is very likable and always serious. This makes him stand out
Dante being in SMT3 is how I found out about the series. I was a dumb kid obsessed with DMC, and I looked up games with Dante in them and saw that he was in an RPG. I ended up picking up a copy in a used game store and then preceded to get my ass kicked by the game because I had no idea what I was doing.
@@Christopher-eq1rn Nah I think it's overblown. The press turn system is pretty well laid out and Matador can be taken down with a good number of buffs and force resistance. I actually just fought him the other day sort of in anticipation for Vengence.
@@gameguy1337 that's the thing, matador is very early in the game, and nothing up to that point has needed a strategy beyond hitting it's weakness repeatedly. Mind you I'm fully aware the nues you can get a few rooms back are super useful against him, but considering he can very easily 2 shot demifiend without prior prep work makes it a big spike rather than a gradual process And yeah press turn is decently explained, but recruitment doesn't explain any of the nuances (especially the recruitment demon abilities), let alone the importance of buffing in nocturne
As a fan of DMC, I'm pretty sure this game is how I found out about SMT. I really want to give it a shot, especially since they don't really make RPGs like this anymore!
Really cool how Dante came back in SMT3 HD with Reuben Langdon providing his voice as well as feature in another SMT game the mobile game SMT DX2 Liberation in his DMC5 design bringing Nero and V with him Also pretty cool that they got Kazuma Kaneko to design the DMC3 DT's for Dante and Vergil which still used often and inspired future designs

As far as DMC references go in SMT3, the only one I could find is this: By the time the player is able to recruit Dante, Dante asks to flip a coin and play a simple game of heads or tails. If you win, he joins for free. If you lose, he gets half the players current money. The coin is double sided. Meaning it will always be the same right/wrong choice everytime. This is a reference to a scene near the end of DMC 2 where Dante pulls the coin out for Lucia to decide who should jump into a portal to fight Argosax and thus be trapped in the underworld. Lucia picks, and Dante wins. Thud heading in himself to finish the fight. Tossing her the coin as a parting gift. Upon inspecting it, she sees he set her up with the coin being double sided, ensuring he had to fight on her behalf. In SMT3, Dante further references this if you guess right saying something like "ha! So you've seen this trick before!" (I can't for the life of me remember if it was a double sided heads or double sided tales, I played DMC2 in like 2017)
playing nocturne hd I thought it was a bit goofy that Dante was in there, but after this video I think it's pretty nice that two companies shared their admiration and tried to do something cool, thanks for explaining! :)

nice, i was just talking about this somewhere the other day. I don't know much about it other than the Dante design was featured in marvel vs capcom 3. The Kaneko devil triggers look slick. Kaneko's DDS phase I guess.
Glad that they chose DMC2 Dante for that collab You can say all about DMC2 but that outfit for Dante is AMAZING! My favorite to this day and I am always upset of why Capcom never put that version of Dante in other crossovers like Marvel vs Capcom, instead they put DMC3 Dante which is in my opinion, Dante's worst design ever.
Duuuuuuude, same, I don't like Dante's DMC3 design at all, so seeing it everywhere is really grating for me, who likes his DMC2 design the best. I mean, just look at my pfp, lol.
so there’s actually another reason this happened in the original version of Nocturne Raidou Kuzunoha would show up in place of Dante but those games hadn’t come out in the west when knocked was released to the west they needed a character about the west was familiar with which is how we ended up with Dante and those devil trigger designs would actually go on to be used in DMC 3 that’s why in that game in particular the devil trigger designs look like SMT demons because they were designed by the same people
You have the timeline wrong. Nocturne Maniax released in 2004, Raidou didn't even exist as a character until 2006. The version of the game you're referring to is Nocturne Maniax Chronicles, which released in 2008 as an add-on to the limited edition of Raidou 2.

Dante in Nocturne acted more in character than DMC2 Dante

Tbf as much fun as smt 3 can be, it does an awful job establishing game mechanics, and the difficulty spike for your first candelabra fight is absurd

Yup, nothing suspicious here. I´m sure you can trust him, Dante.

How broken the skill called Rebellion
In my opinion Maniax Chronicle Edition is the better version of Nocturne cause Raidou is better than Dante in every way
