Why does everyone think it should be a Space Marine standing up for the guard? Does no one remember the stand of Olanius?
I like to imagine it was a lieutenant commander. He walks up, carapace armor bloody his, his officer hat has a stubber round sized hole in it and, chainsword in hand. He gives this speech about his fallen platoon before he charges the traitor marine, chainsword roaring.
Why should it be a space marine? Because so many chapters are alas not only forgetful that they too were born as mere humans, but also highly disdainful of the humans they are supposed to protect.
Seriously, I get the feeling that only the Salamanders, the Ultramarines, the Black Templars, the Lamenters, the Blood Angels, the Space Wolves, the Raven Guards genuinely care for human lives.
God, would I wish to see the Minotaurs, Flesh Tearers, Marine Malevolents, and possibly Angry Marines too bite the bullet. Every one of them. They are naught but a blight to the Imperium of Mankind, and to the Emperor's name.
It's because of an animation where the "guardsman" part was said by a Marine
well in the way the voice says "he" not "we" putting himself outside of the Guard entirely, if it had been "we" then it would make sense for a Lt or Commisar, but it is very clearly meant to be a Space Marine basically mocking a Chaos Marine, hope that clears it up some

Yep we hold the line but, when we get artillery or the Ultimate tank with more weapons tha a fortess we break the line and kill all the monsters for the emperor!!
