Minelab Equinox 900 Coin Program Setup and How-to - Fully Explained.

- I've been working on this coin program for the Minelab Equinox 900 the last few days trying to get it just right and I think I have it. For those of you who have or are getting the NOX 900 and saw my previous video rejecting certain target IDs for coin hunting, this new coin program is completely different and will server you better.
My previous Equinox 900 video was for situations where you needed to cherry pick a site with limited time. This new setup is based on my Equinox 800 program that I made a couple of years ago that a lot of people liked. I modified it for the NOX 900 target ID range. I think you are going to like this one. Let me know what you think.

Great program, appreciate all the time you put into these
Glad you like them!
I just left a comment earlier today. This program is pretty awesome. It helped with the iron false readings that I’ve been getting. I just found a 1929 Mercury dime. That’s the first one I found since I was a kid with a dinky RadioShack protector. I know it’s not a big deal to most but to me I cried victory. Thank you.
Just purchased the 900. Took it out today for a short hunt and was pleasantly surprised by the separation. I want a good coin shooting program and I think I just found it. Thank you sir.
I hope you enjoy it.
I live in N Idaho, tried your program at some restaurants and bar parking lots. I focused where the snow and ice have been plowed to the end of the lots. Found a lot of good tones. I didn't try to dig through the ice and snow, but I know where the piles were left, once everything milts and the weather warms, I'll retrieve them. Thanks again, program works great.
Awesome good luck!
@@MentalMetal Went to a tavern where I had tones, the gravels had thawed out. I had a high tone number's showing 88-89 scraped the gravels away found a quarter. Happened to notice something else pulled out a folded up $50.00 dollar bill. Thanks for the coin program Scott!
Damn now thats a good day Congrats!
Just got my 900 and set up your program
Tested it and it’s seem like a real winner Thanks for sharing it
Great to hear! my pleasure.
Ha Ha, Just saw the silly test comment. I've been detecting hardcore for the last 16 years and have found a lot of valuable coins including a gold coin and a pine tree shilling. That being said, I love silly tests, Silly tests make you much more aware of all the differences a machine can produce even from identical machines. I have been watching your vid's for about a year now and have to give you credit on your simplistic and non biased way you produce each one. Please do not let the guy's who think they know how to detect get you down. If you taped the screen on all their detectors they would be lost, Half do not even recognize depth from freq. changes. Oh and by the way ground testing is the worst way to set up your machine. I hope most of your followers pay attention to the times you talk about tone recognition and what it means. Nothing is more reliable than your ears. Keep up the good work and excellent video, You are for sure helping many new detectorist's. Keep them coming and I'll keep watching.
Thanks Jamie I appreciate the encouragement. Some folks you can never please as I've come to find out over the years. Meh its ok. The vast majority get what I'm trying to put down :-) Thank you!
Great content, I have been out of the hobby for yrs and just ordered the 900 and your videos helped me decide on what to buy. I will definitely be adding this to my quick profile and trying it out. I am glad to see you are still adding content using the 900 here and there. Happy hunting
Thanks and with the new update for it, the 900 is even better IMO.
I have used your Coin Program setup and it works really well... your work is appreciated thank you
I appreciate you as well Dan thank you!
This is a great set up. I bought the 900 in the beginning of May. I just set this program up after watching this video. Then I learned about the update….. and boy does it work….. my only problem was when I notched 31 32 and 33. The wartime Nickle wasn’t registering, because it was ringing within 31 and 32….. other than that issue, it snipes coins all day long
Glad to hear it and happy to see you made the adjustment to bring in that war nickel. Those numbers may vary a bit.
@@MentalMetal I believe I just need to tweak it and should be good to go. Glad you responded.
Wow.. tried your program out and never dug so many nickles in my life.. love it.
On the 5th tone break not showing up when setting range, I suspect it's because it's "driven" by wherever you set the top of break 4. So if the scale is 0-99 and you set everything up so break 4 stops at 80, then break 5 will be 81-99. It doesn't need you to set it, it just automatically assumes whatever is beyond break 4 to the max of 99. Just a hunch.
Great job, I just got my my first detecor. I bought a 900. This will help me a lot. Thank you.
Glad it helped
Oh man. I’ve been using the 600 for about a year. Every time I think about using notching or a “program” I find something cool in the range of foil or a pull tab. I might finally try something different just to see. I find a lot of coins because I’m obviously digging almost all targets, if nothing else, because these are places I hunt multiple times and I like to clean up the area of trash. If I go somewhere that I’ll go only once, a coin program might be the ticket. Cheers.
I think you will like the coin setup.
Loaded up you coin shooter program this afternoon. Works great. Found a lot of modern coins easily. But here is a picture of the very first thing I found with your program.
Glad it worked great for you.
Just fantastic! Thank you 🙏
Very well done and easy to follow.
I shall try this tomorrow on a old site. It will be my third time out with my new 900.
I like the 900 have yet to take it out on my river spot which has been a great spot can’t wait
Get out there! :-)
@@MentalMetal good luck
I appreciate all the work you do. And I just bought one from Fort Bedford
Awesome Richard I think you will really enjoy it. You should be getting it soon I think, I did see they had some in stock.
Nice job scott! Cant wait to get mine to put it through the ringer!
Hope you enjoy it!
Just got it today!🤗seems nice
Enjoy!
Thanks for this appreciated all your work
My pleasure!
Good video, I initially did a coin program for the 800 that was almost identical to yours, I bought a legend and converted it to the six tones on the legend, it worked even better. Now I have converted it for the Manticore, all I need to do is get my Manticore and I will be set.
Very nice!
I have Legend too , can you share your settings ?
loading this up now, I really enjoyed the program on the 800. This should be great in some of the really littered sites I visit
Good luck
Great info, going to load this into my 900. Thanks
Glad it helped
Just set my 900 to these settings.......heading out!!
Good luck
Awesome Program !!! Thank You.
You're welcome!
Thank you for this! 🙌🏼
No problem 😊
New to detecting and just got my 900. Found some good spots but was getting trash left and right. Soooooo stoked to go out with these settings. Muahahahha haha but no for real. Thanks my man. New sub
Nice!! Welcome to the hobby and thanks for the sub!
I don't remember if I told you, on your coin program I turned on handle vibration for the nickel segment works great. Tells me nickels from other high tones.
That is a great idea.
Was at a beach in B1 12 13 foil foil foil.....righting the ring area
Thanks for this video. Just got a 900 and trying to figure it all out. Going to a park to it another try.
Good luck!
That mode y can also add vibration to a a tone block as well.
Correct
Awesome! Cant wait to try it out!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks alot
You are very welcome!
Awesome program been struggling with the 900 a little hope to try it out soon thank you for the help...
Glad it helped and you are very welcome.
@Mental Metal......you should cover how to save this to a personal profile and how to get back to park 1 again.
Great video. Saved me some time. Thx. Love your channel.
Glad to hear it!
Thank you
my pleasure!
Thanks
No problem
Good video
Thanks
I have only taken out my 900 twice and still learning after using an Equinox 600 for 2 years. So far I feel the VDI # 1 thru 12 should be notched out. Do you feel there could be gold rings in that area on the 900.
I've hit gold down around 10, check those broken signals that low. They are sometimes bracelets.
Great info. Thanks 😊
my pleasure thank you.
Awesome stuff! Thanks for sharing and not being a gatekeeper of good information to other hobbyists.
You bet! We don't keep the information from others, the goal is to help as many of you as we can.
I have the same model and trying 24k gold it reads 41 on my friends reads 92 would my not be accurate or a problem do you think?
41 seems right not sure why you are getting a 92 unless its a chain and you are hitting clasp or something.
I found a 1970 penny vdi (62) at 3 to 4 inches
Good video buddy
Thanks 👍
Great how to video appreciate it now that's the settings that work good for finding coins in the dirt will they work on the beach or can you switch to another program for gold and silver rings in the ocean do you have a video on it
Can you do a jewelry program for this detector.
I'm sure you could but there is not way to really ID every piece of gold over silver. Gold can be found all over the TID range.
Trying to set this up but in tone breaks I can’t get to tone breaks 2 it’s stuck on tone breaks 1 any reasons why?
Great video. Just wanted to point out that zone 5 begins were zone 4 ends. So if you run zone 4 to 98 then you only have 99 for zone 5.
Yes you are correct, you are really only using 4 zones based on the way the tone breaks work. It has worked just fine this way.
i found tone break 5 is available but the size of tone break 4 needs to be reduced to allow more than one segment for tone break 5.
Yep it doesn't matter either way, I would still set it the same tone.
What about for uk Coins can never find good setting for those
Sorry my friend I don't live in the neck of the woods to test them.
I'm waiting for delivery of my 900. I plan on loading this program once I have it. Do you have this written down somewhere that could be downloaded?
I don't have it in written form yet, I plan on adding it to my website if there is a big enough demand. For now just pause the video as I walk through it.
Nice
Thanks
Will this program work on UK coins? I’ve got a Equinox 700
I never tested it on UK coins and the 700 will not allow you to customize the tone breaks you need.
Will this work for equinox 700?
no it won't sorry. You don't have configuration options like you do with the 900.
Buffalo nickles ring 23 24. Just giving you a heads up I'm sure you will fine tune it as you go. But yeah pennies on this thing are all over.
Nickels are tricky. I wouldn't bank them being 23-24 all the time. But yes, most of the time, they do.
I'm gonna go tomorrow morning on these settings on the 900. Do you think I should go low freq or multi?
Muti good luck
Would this setup work for the Equinox 700?
No you don't have the flexibility to change the tone breaks, volume etc. like you do with the 900.
Thanks for the quick reply, I found this out shortly after getting home and trying this out on my 700. I guess I made the unfortunate choice of choosing the wrong metal detector upgrade for me, I need something with a little more advance options to it. I have had my Equinox 700 for a couple months now and I like it, and it is better than Nokta Simplex I started with 2 years ago. But sometimes I find myself just as frustrated with it as I did with my Simplex. I am pretty much back to digging up every target, since I feel I cannot trust the target id numbers and sounds on the 700 as much as I want to.
(e.g. having nails, modern pennies, cans, etc, reading as great targets.) I know I am missing some great because of this and if you have any advice on what I can do with the 700, that would be greatly appreciated! @@MentalMetal
Just got mine last night! Its charging right this second.. Ill start my testing once ut charges up. Thanks for the info
Ill out this in mine an see what happens..
Question: in this mode.. will it still hit on a gold or silver ring?
Just finished putting it in my new equinox 900. Will try it out at a "hunted out" school tomorrow. Also is that the coiltec 5 x 10 coil you have?
Yes that is the coil I have.
@Mental Metal I put my coiltek 5 x 10 on my new 900. Installed the coin program. Just got home from a 4 hr hunt at an old school. Found over $5 in clad that I missed with the 600. There are more signals there but the ground is so damn hard you can't dig but 6 inches down.
That coil is magical. Well done!
@MentalMetal just an update on that coin program. I've been back to three places that I've searched with my 600. This program I put on the 900 is a nickle killer. I've found a ton of nickles. They come in so loud and strong. In fact, all good solid signals come in strong. I'm still learning this machine and really loving it. Great coin shooting program.
So how do I save it to the machine and how do you reject the 30-33.
Can this be done on "Park 2" while maintaining factory settings on "Park 1"?
Do you know if the new update is out for the legend or not
Not sure I dont have it anymore. I would check their website.
Great video, im trying to wotkout a setting for New Zealand/Australia. If you know the TIDs range then could it be adjusted to suit? But using your target tone volume?
Below is my TIDs, what would you do?
5c NZ 17
20c NZ New 26
10c 28-29
Gold Ring Small 9ct 32
20c NZ 40-64
Silver NZ 3p 41-43
Silver NZ Sixpence 42-52
Pulltab 42
Half Crown NZ - CLAD 43
Gold Ring Chunky 9ct 54
Musketballs 45-98
50c NZ New 47-49
Silver ring in water 60-65
Silver UK 3p 60-75
Silver NZ Shilling 62-64
$1, $2 coin 62-68
1c NZ 65-75
UK / NZ Penny 70
2c NZ 72-82
Big Silver broach with stone 80
Silver NZ Florin 82
Silver 925 UK Shilling 84
Silver .50 UK Sixpence 90-98
I would separate out all the coins you have listed and work out the different ranges and then make the adjustments but keeping in mind the coin setup will probably eliminate rings and gold (to some degree) unless you account for them in your ranges. You have everything you need to make the adjustments if this is all you are going to look for.
@@MentalMetal thanks heaps
Would this coin shooting program be good for a upcoming seeded hunt I’m going to in a couple weeks? I’m a newbie with all this.
I wouldn't run it that way at a seeded hunt. Just run it in park 1 and you will be fine.
I just loaded this into my new 900... tested in the yard and found 7 cents.
One thing I didn't understand is how you turned off 30-33?
EDIT:
Never mind I just figured it out.
Sounds like you got it. Good luck.
@MentalMetal I got another 900, I loaded this up on it as well but it had a steady humming sound. Very weird. I honestly think something is wrong with me new machine. Out with it yesterday it was ringing up 80-85 so of course I dug it.. it was a 30-06 rifle shell about 4 inches down. Is that normal do you think?
@MentalMetal so I'm starting over .. reset the machine.. I'm at tone breaksE1, when I try to go to E2 like you did by hitting the check box, it doesn't go to E2...
EDIT: I got it figured out.. heading to see if I hit anything!👊🏻
Would this program be ok for English coins
Great question I have no idea on that.
Ok thanks will have to try it
The reason I see on the tone breaks is you have set it to 5 tone breaks so you have to have 5.
Right but you really need 6 to get the breaks you really need.
@@MentalMetal 1st was 0-24, 2nd was 25-30, 3rd was 31-68, 4th was 69-98 and the 5th would be 99 if I counted that right. If you had set 69-80 for the fourth, the 5th should be 82-99. Does that make sense or am I missing something?
yes but you can adjust the 4th one a bit, I don't really care where it is because I want everything from 60 up to 99 to ring high. The new 0-99 TDIs really spreads around the coins and its difficult to get that 4th one just right because there is some junk in there. If you had 6 tone breaks you could really fine tune it.
I followed you and now my machine is programed the way I want it. I am afraid to turn off my 900 cause I might lose this program?
Save it off to your extra profile (lower button on the right hand side) the icon that looks like a person and hold it in until it beeps at you.
@@MentalMetal got it, thanks.
my pleasure
@@MentalMetal I have to tell you, I have not used this setup after almost a month of having it programmed into my 900. I find it almost impossible to pick up the 900 when I can use my Deus II. I do thank you though, maybe today is the day?
20 point fluctuation in the VDI on a gold ring? Come'on Man (Man=Minelab)......PS....wasn't the video I was expecting......PSS....yes you said it right.....
With the increased sensitivity of the new processor could it be possible that it's reading the other alloys in the ring?
Hi there, could you tell me what to set the theshold as please as you did not cover this on your video. Thank you.
you can set it to whatever you want. It is a user preference that won't impact the performance.
@@MentalMetal Thank you.😁
Zero
99 wrap around effect???
I didn’t make any noise
hello, your settup is working perfect but unable to detect gold coins with current settings. I found one gold coin with stock field 2 setup with 20-21 target id. but can not detect at all with your settings. how can we add 20-21 target id in this setup
Yes that setup will not hit certain gold coins, some rings etc. Just go back into the tone breaks and find the one that is closest to 20 and 21 and just expand it to include those numbers.
@@MentalMetal I just did it and working like charm thanks allot. I may need to go to hit that field again. :)
Still waiting for "something on the website, a walk through.". Please do that if you get time. The unrehearsed video is quite confusing. I appreciate all of your time and the videos that you make, but you are correct. You should probably have written something down before making this one. Again, no disrespect intended. Just trying to get it right in my 900.
Time is my enemy.
Thanks , what’s the website u mentioned
I dont have it up there yet. Mentalmetaldetecting.com will be the website.
Hello will this work on the equinox 700
No you don't have the option to setup the tone breaks with the 700 like you do with the 900
i had a cooked zinc penny ring up at a 40...weird???
yeah zinc pennies are a crap shoot. Nick it and it changes, let it decay and it changes.. roll the dice with zincs :-)
Very Good, but not any good for UK users
Sorry Peter, yes this is mostly for US coins. My apologies. I don't have a lot of coins you all find across the pond.
Peter, now that you have a pattern it gives you the opportunity to build a program for yourself and UK users.
