    Good tips, thanks! With compression for drum tone shaping, I'll also mess with the mix, sometimes it helps you dial in that extra punch while also keeping some of the original flavor as well.

    Nice! I remember reading way back in the early 90’s an article with Primo (he was talking about making beats on a S950 and an Alesis HR-16 so this way bac) saying that he always adds an 808 under his kicks. I guess he was trying sneak his bass in after the mastering fiasco on “No More Mr.Nice Guy”. LOL
    I usually layer my kicks like that but I usually try to pick a snare that has the characteristic sound I like. I usually just compress the hell out of to make punch. LOL

    • @labandlegacy
      @labandlegacy  4 года назад

      Compression works too! I am saving that for a later video. Preemo is definitely the king of that 808 under the punchy dirty kick. I loved that sound!

    @iamsight little late here, but when you have the plugin menu pulled up....... You have waaaaaay more plugins, I have air and Akai.. reaallllly curious what that IK multimedia joint is. T-Racks in the mpc would be dope.

    I am sight nice video I picked up something off it date I didn't use to use imma start tryna use data compression for some off my sounds ay I gotta question for you it looks like you updated your firmware on the live I wanna update mines but before I do I need to be clear on this I like the features that version 2.3 and 2.4 got for each one can I download 2.4 and still get the features that 2.3 have or do I need to download them separately like download 2.3 first then comeback and download 2.4 just to make sure I get the new features in both firmware editions

    • @labandlegacy
      @labandlegacy  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! You can update to the exact one you want, no need to update the in-between ones. I have 2.5 and it has been pretty stable and I don't use Ableton so I didn't need that feature (or the bugs that came with it 🤣) I would say 2.4 or 2.5 are your best options at the moment since the newest one can be somewhat unstable.

    • @daunknown5663
      @daunknown5663 4 года назад +1

      @@labandlegacy so your saying if I download 2.4 it will give me its new features plus all the new features that 2.3 got is that clear

    I want to get sarato sampler because it chops for you but I also want to update to the newest MPC software if I update to the new Mpc software is it a waste of money to buy serato sampler?

    • @labandlegacy
      @labandlegacy  3 года назад +1

      I'm old school, I like to chop things myself and the lazy chop feature in MPC is super easy... but some people love Serato.

    Do I have to layer drums through key groups? Or can it be done within a drum program?

    • @labandlegacy
      @labandlegacy  3 года назад +1

      Each pad in a drum program has 4 layers that you can independently adjust pitch, level and start point on. When you're done you can hit the "flatten pad" and make it one sound.

    Quick question, when you go to export that, let’s say you are sending stems to a DAW, does a layered drum like that, get exported as one stereo sound, or do each one of those individual layers end up on their own tracks??

    • @dragonheatbeats9944
      @dragonheatbeats9944 4 года назад

      Nevermind, I posted this question right before the clipping part haha, but if you don’t flatten it, would it export individually or as one stereo sound?

    • @labandlegacy
      @labandlegacy  4 года назад +1

      It would export as one sound if it's on the same pad.
